If you've had Covid recently and recovered

Do you think you have sufficient immunity to meet up with other people who have also had it without too much worrying at least for a few weeks? There's no info out there

JacobMarley your daughter’s friend is a disgrace

I couldn’t agree more. Thank God my DD had more sense and refused their invitations to join them.

Maybe post this is covid section

ImPrincessAurora · 20/12/2020 20:27

My DC had a positive test and was very unwell with it.
Approx 6 weeks later they had a raging temp for days on end. Sore throat. Lethargic. I called GP who diagnosed a throat infection over the phone. I asked whether we should get a COVID test. They said no. To test positive again within 3 months of a positive test was so rare that to test my child again would be a waste of NHS resources. She said there was only a handful of case across the whole of Europe who had tested positive twice within 3 months.

SnackSizeRaisin · 20/12/2020 20:31

If natural infection doesn't induce immunity then it's unlikely that the vaccine will be any better, the vaccines are for the same surface proteins that are in the virus. Also, if you have recently had covid (and have high antibody levels), your existing immune response will probably stop the vaccine working.
Most people who've had covid will be immune for a few months at least (not all, the same as not all respond to the vaccine).
Lack of antibodies on a blood test does not mean lack of immunity, especially if the blood test was taken some time after infection. Antibodies always wane eventually but the immune cells have memory and can produce more antibodies quickly if required.

Rare, presumably, because people are being told not to test again so most don’t.

I've had it 6 weeks ago and still suffer with my chest hurting like I've run miles and miles.I work with a member of staff on a hospital ward and she's come back positive again.I am so wary of everything because there is no way in he'll I want it again.

ImPrincessAurora · 20/12/2020 20:55

@SilentlyLaughing very good point. Part of me wonders whether they never got over the original infection, and don’t understand enough about it to know whether that would have resulted in another positive result.

RelightMyPfizer · 20/12/2020 22:25

@bubblicious3

Interesting *@RelightMyPfizer* - was she part of the testing? I feel like we could have family over in similar circa as unlikely to be risks but partner not happy to go so (he had it too)
We all had covid

We all volunteered for future testing/giving plasma etc

She was selected and has been tested once so far. tested positive early October.

RelightMyPfizer · 20/12/2020 22:27

@JacobMarley

DD’s friend had covid back in April. She gave it to her parents who were self isolating and working from home.

Friend has continued to attend social functions in various pubs and clubs, despite her parents pleading with her not to. She tested positive again last week - and passed it on to her parents again. All 3 are really ill this time.

Did she have a positive test in April? You couldn't get them here.

Yes she had her test in hospital. Hospital tests were available in Wales from late March/early April with drive through tests introduced at the end of April.

I had covid in March and tested positive for antibodies last week. I am not doing anything differently as I have no idea if I could pass it to others, or now whether the new strain means I would still be able to catch it. I certainly don’t want it again!

Stop making sense, it's not popular around here.
