To say if the Governor didn't want people to leave London....

They shouldn't have had any trains running!
That would have put a stop to it!

Sorry that should say "Government" not Governor

OP posts:
superram · 20/12/2020 16:15

Erm, it would have stranded many people with nowhere to stay.

christinarossetti19 · 20/12/2020 16:15

What about people going home?

RelightMyPfizer · 20/12/2020 16:16

And close all petrol stations?
Stab their tyres to deflate them?
Put armed guards on all roads?

Many more left by car than train.

Hope4theBestPlan4theWorst · 20/12/2020 16:16

People going home is one thing isn't it but the scenes at those train stations are scary

OP posts:
NiamCinnOir · 20/12/2020 16:16

Wouldn’t people just have left by car instead?

IrenetheQuaint · 20/12/2020 16:16

What about key workers who work in London and live outside it?

MrsBobBlackadder · 20/12/2020 16:16

And what about the people who had tickets booked, perhaps from weeks ago?

userxx · 20/12/2020 16:19

What a nice simple world you live in 🙄

Hope4theBestPlan4theWorst · 20/12/2020 16:19

I just can't believe the pictures it must have been horrendous

I get why people did it but surely it should have been policed better and managed

OP posts:
OrigamiOwl · 20/12/2020 16:21

So what about the key workers who can't afford to live in London and have to commute in? Tough luck, they should go and sleep on their workplaces floors?

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 20/12/2020 16:21

Last weekend before Christmas it would've been busy regardless..plus you can use angles to make a picture appear how you want it to. Not saying its all exaggerated but...makes a story and all.

Also don't see how cancelling trains would help. People need to get home

cologne4711 · 20/12/2020 16:22

I just can't believe the pictures

well there's your answer. Don't believe everything you see on the internet. Someone has already said nobody was wearing a mask on one of the photos, so it clearly wasn't taken yesterday. Some people might not have been wearing masks, but not everyone.

Camera angles also make a massive difference. During the first lockdown there were photos of supposedly how many people were in Richmond Park. Someone was there at the time and took their own photos which showed people were well distanced. The BBC used a photo taken from a very different angle to squash people together. I think there were formal complaints made about it.

Sparklesocks · 20/12/2020 16:22

I agree the pics are shocking but that seems like a very simplistic approach. What about key workers who work in London getting home? What about people in bubbles, or need to be elsewhere due to medical needs?

Perhaps not making such a big announcement with 8 hours notice would’ve created such chaos.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 20/12/2020 16:23

Where do you think they’ve all gone?

partyatthepalace · 20/12/2020 16:44

Just because the Daily Mail says it was busy doesn’t mean it was.

I was travelling from Paddington on Sat eve (pre-booked for work). It was quieter than most weekends.

Don’t believe everything you read and remember lots of people travel for work or are legitimately travelling to bubbles

AppleKatie · 20/12/2020 16:47

I don’t want to live in a country where the govt cancels all trains without warning.

I’m astonished you do.

Get a grip on yourself.

daisypond · 20/12/2020 16:49

Apparently, the train company (not sure which) said that out of all trains running that evening, only two of them were actually full. Don’t believe everything you read in the Mail.

I went through Kings Cross Last Saturday and last Monday

It was totally deserted (11 am and 7 pm)

Ffs OP you've been fooled by a few clever-angled photos and a headline. The stations have not been anywhere as busy as a normal weekday. Ridiculous scare mongering.
Ghostlyglow · 20/12/2020 16:55

I take it you're not used to London. It wasn't that busy really.

SquirtleSquad · 20/12/2020 16:55

More like Gilead..

Ferrari458 · 20/12/2020 16:55

Stupid - how would people get home from work? Just for starters...

Sirius99 · 20/12/2020 16:56

Never seen so many key workers with big suitcases just going to work

Crazycatlady83 · 20/12/2020 16:58

Lol - the “governor” of the prison - why don’t they just lock up London and throw away the keys? I see no problem.

Given that the strain was identified in October, from a sample taken in September and it’s already in Wales, the Netherlands, South Africa - I’m pretty sure it’s travel up the M1 or the East coast main line by now!

But “blame the people” for the Governments cock up, seems to be a very effective policy at the moment! Doing well to defect your attention!
