They shouldn't have had any trains running!
That would have put a stop to it!

From the BBC:

East Midlands Railway said it had run a full service on Saturday and only two of its 10 evening departures had been full.

So a normal saturday before xmas.

nosswith · 20/12/2020 17:02

The crowded scenes at Euston probably were only an extra 100 or so people from normal, given the nature of the departure concourse.

chomalungma · 20/12/2020 17:03

Ffs OP you've been fooled by a few clever-angled photos and a headline. The stations have not been anywhere as busy as a normal weekday. Ridiculous scare mongering

How busy have they been for a city in Tier 3 on the weekend before Christmas?

peboh · 20/12/2020 17:06

A) that would have been a ridiculous notion. Too many people commute and cannot be expected to find accommodation within the space of 4 hours.
B) you're buying into newspaper articles that are BS. A friend of mine who works in London had to get the train home yesterday and said it was nothing like newspapers are reporting. Stop believing everything you read on the internet.

fishonabicycle · 20/12/2020 17:24

And yet another person who believes everything they read in the Daily Mail! It is a paper that's whole agenda is to spread hysteria and blame.

Never seen so many key workers with big suitcases just going to work

It’s the weekend before Christmas. The people with suitcases that there were young and would have returning home to parents on prebooked tickets.

I was at Paddington (travelling for work on a prebooked ticket) - it wasn’t busy. You are just looking at a cleverly angled photo that’s designed to drive a story. You need to apply a filter to what you see in the Mail, it’s click bait, it’s designed to catch you.

@Sirius99

Never seen so many key workers with big suitcases just going to work
Were you there then?
Sirius99 · 21/12/2020 08:58

partyatthepalace Funny how you think that they only news outlet is the Mail, it seems like people like yourself and others on MN spend a lot of time reading the Mail to know it’s content to get upset about it

Sirius99 · 21/12/2020 08:59

Sparklesocks I wasn’t there personally, but now someone who was working there at the time

Timbucktime · 21/12/2020 09:06

I think many of the pictures will have been cleverly taken with lenses and angles to make it look different to the reality, the same as the pictures taken in the summer of the beaches.
It seems all designed to cause anger and a divide in people and unfortunately.seems to be working well.

Somebody on a local Facebook page did the same with a picture of a local park, the vile and nasty comments a caused from people who he had fooled with his camera angle were simply disgusting.
Anyone who know the park knows that he was standing in the one area that from a quick glance can make it seem busy yet when you enter is is any it busy.

Timbucktime · 21/12/2020 09:08

Silly autocorrect. When you enter it is anything but busy.

notdaddycool · 21/12/2020 09:12

There were many more parking spaces available on our London street last night. 🤷🏼‍♂️

SoupDragon · 21/12/2020 09:15

Do you know what London train stations normally look like at this time of year, OP?
