Just that.
This morning we were watching Andrew Marr and he said that he could easily see society breaking down to a point where people are killed for being C19 positive.
He is normally a calm rational person, but 10 minutes ago we had a discussion about what he thought COULD happen.
In his mind, Boris Johnson will be overthrown and a new unelected government will set up extermination camps.
His point was culling during foot and mouth and bird flu was effective.

I thought the thread was going to be about a St. Bernadette moment.

Or Jesus in a tortilla.

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 20/12/2020 11:04

It this were a zombie virus then yes, absolutely. But it's a glorified flu, and killing the infected doesnt stop it because they've already spread it by the time they've tested positive.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/12/2020 11:04

Definitely happening in other countries. Won’t happen here.

PoorMansPaulaRadcliffe · 20/12/2020 11:06

@LunaNorth

Yeah, I’d be surprised if my DH suddenly revealed he’d gone nuts over breakfast, too, OP.

If MPS flout the one day rule, I can see something happening

Bargebill19 · 20/12/2020 11:10

Take the tv remote away from him!!!

Much more likely that people will return to pre covid activity/ social norms and totally ignore whatever the government say we should do. Something I think we are already increasing seeing.

Your husband needs more sleep.

I should reiterate that he doesn’t support these measures and appreciates that he may be a bit bonkers

More likely covid passports, we'll be compelled to get vaccines if we want something that looks like normal ways of interacting with rest of society. Lots & Lots of MNers will defend this as Just and Fair to impose on people.

Bargebill19 · 20/12/2020 11:20

@Mydogisagentleman

Maybe he is a frustrated script writer for the next blockbuster Halloween film. 🤣

shinynewapple2020 · 20/12/2020 11:24

I'd be checking his internet history OP

Any conspiracy theory websites on there ?

cushioncovers · 20/12/2020 11:32

I don't think we will get societal break down over Covid. But I do think we could see a break down if food, water and medical supplies were ever disrupted for any length of time. They are thousands of preppers in America that would agree your Dp however.

I'd love his explanation of how murdering thousands of people who have a virus with an infection fatality rate of about 1% stacks up?

Also there wouldn't be an overall economic benefit (as in FMD, bird flu etc) as COVID doesn't affect trade agreements/import/export, and removing working adults from the population would have a significant economic impact. So that's a false comparison.

I'm surprised as a relatively bright adult, he can't see the very obvious flaws in his argument

Have you posted on this before?

I recall another thread where a female posted about what her husband's views were on society breaking down. She painted him as a wise prophet, being male and all, but hoping you just reply "that's nice dear"
@RubaiyatOfAnyone dark but accurate Grin

Anyone read World War Z? It's about how different countries/societies/cultures respond to a zombie pandemic (so nothing like the film). The book predicted that North Korea would simply close itself off and refuse to say whether they had any infected, nor how they were dealing with any who were.
I read it about 7 or 8 yea s ago, I’m sure there was more than one in the series wasn’t there? They are completely different from the film, imo it’s a shame the film linked itself to the book as the only parallels are the title and the zombies.

It was actually a hugely interesting book on social structures under duress and behaviour wasn’t it? I found it interesting the ease at the breakdown of cultural normality once the rules change. Plus the changes to the way people think once there constraints of the rules and societal judgement are lifted.

I mean it’s not classic literature but for a bit of fictional entertainment it’s enjoyable.

Brunt0n · 20/12/2020 12:01

Do you have a carbon monoxide detector OP?
I’d be concerned if a rational educated adult started talking like this, yes.

ShandlersWig · 20/12/2020 12:16

Mini stroke?

MaryLeeOnHigh · 20/12/2020 12:34

How does he factor vaccination into this scenario? Surely it's a hell of a lot easier than setting up extermination camps?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 20/12/2020 12:51

@Ginkypig absolutely, I loved it. A pandemic novel that just happened to be zombies, basically. I re-read it during lockdown and saw it in a whole new light.

Mydogisagentleman · 20/12/2020 14:28

@MaryLeeOnHigh People who refused the vaccine but not those who couldn’t be vaccinated, are his target.
He has expanded on this and I think is planning to annexe an island for them

Bargebill19 · 20/12/2020 14:32

Can I ask him what facilities this island would have? Asking for a friend ...

Bluntness100 · 20/12/2020 14:34

Ah, bless him

It’s too easy to dismiss him as batshit, it sounds like it’s getting to him badly and he’s lost his sense of perspective. He likely needs some help to put it back into perspective.

Canwecancel2020 · 20/12/2020 14:37

This is why I can’t watch things like 28 days later or I am legend... I wake up in the night in a sweaty mess planning to fill Jerry cans with diesel and wondering where i could get a canoe and a shotgun.

CharitySchmarity · 20/12/2020 15:39

Point out that they will have to be killed from at least 2 metres away!
