Child wanting me to watch everything - driving me insane!!

MisterMakerMakes · 19/12/2020 20:15

DC is 7 and is currently sat next to me asking me to watch video after video. They will sit watching my face to make sure I'm watching and it's driving me insane, I'm going to scream. BlushHmm

I have tried to tell them politely that I have already watched the 5 previous videos they wanted me to watch but now have to get on with my own things but they just don't stop!

“No, sweetie I am busy”.

Clockstop · 19/12/2020 20:18

Ask educational questions throughout that'll stop it. For example, if person in video is wearing jeans "where were jeans first invented?" Let's have a look to see if we can find out about the history of denim shall we?

7 year old will run a mile after a minute of that.

marvelousmadmadammim · 19/12/2020 20:20

I'm with PP

Asks loads of probing questions about each video, the characters, the moral implications.

Or just say no and mean it.

LuckyNumberThirteen · 19/12/2020 20:21

My son likes me to watch marble run videos on YouTube.

I feel your pain.

MisterMakerMakes · 19/12/2020 20:23

It just feels so mean to say 'no, I don't want to watch it' Confused His face drops and I feel like a terrible parent Blush

Mine is a bit like this. He does tend to find a new fixation every couple of months and throws himself into it head first has to know everything about it, get costumes to dress up as the character/famous person/thing thats taken his fancy. I show interest in things every now and then bit just have to be quite blunt with him sometimes or I would spend my life watching him/videos/reading Wikipedia about things I just really couldn't give a shiney shite about. He will get over it.

ShopoholicIn · 19/12/2020 20:30

Can you suggest to them that it's too much video then, crafts for them, so you can do upper own things.

NerdyBird · 19/12/2020 20:33

@LuckyNumberThirteen does he watch Jelles marble olympics? We quite like those!

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 19/12/2020 20:35

My 3 year old keeps asking me to watch her do stuff.

There's only so many times I can feign getting excited seeing her do a twirl then look at me for praise 87 times in a row when she finally feels she has achieved exactly the right twirl. Last week it was high kicks, and that wore thin too 🤣🤣🤣

Domino20 · 19/12/2020 20:38

Mine is 11yo. Still likes to hunt me down to watch a video and checks my face for reaction. Tis tiresome but I try to take an interest.

PPAK2 · 19/12/2020 20:39

Ohhh I laughed when I read your thread title as my son is like this and I totally get it.

Then you said your son is 7 and I could have cried because it means I might have at least another two years of this 😭😂

The worst is the watching your face and rewinding if anyone so much as sniffles over it 😩

OhWhyNot · 19/12/2020 20:41

Grin honestly they grow out of it

Well it doesn’t happen quite so often ... (ds is 13)

foreverandalways · 19/12/2020 20:41

I am a grandmother and have been unable to see my 9 yr old grandson since April...heartbroken...I would give anything to sit and watch movies with him right now...cherish every second x

Figmentofimagination · 19/12/2020 20:49

Oh god. Does it never end?!
My 3.5yo likes to shout "mummy, watch me!" Whilst he puts his hands on the floor and kicks his legs up a tiny bit in an attempt to do a cartwheel. And repeat.
Or "mummy, watch!" Whilst he runs from the living room to the dining room and back again. And repeat.

LuckyNumberThirteen · 19/12/2020 21:09

@NerdyBird

Is that where the different countries are represented? If so, I do get really into them

RolandSchitt · 19/12/2020 21:13

I tell them I'll watch 3 videos with them, then no more. DS knows I am not interested in his gaming videos, but DD still needs to come to terms with me not being enthralled by cat videos.

ThePlantsitter · 19/12/2020 21:19

Yes just say 'one more and then I'm going' and then really fake interest in that last one.

44PumpLane · 19/12/2020 21:20

Oh my god... My just turned 4 year old twins are like this and have been for 2 years..... Does it never end?!

BlueThistles · 19/12/2020 21:31

my 19 year old STILL does this... she needs to move out Xmas Grin

thistimelastweek · 19/12/2020 21:35

Could be worse. Could be a show they've created, directed and acted in person.

multiplemum3 · 19/12/2020 21:45

Really @foreverandalways 🙄

ghostmous3 · 19/12/2020 21:47

Do they shite grow out of it 🤣

Dd2 is 13 and always thrusts her phone under my nose when I'm literally right in the middle of doing something. Mum look at this mum mum watch this..last night she did it as I was carrying a hot pan full of water and veg to the sink to be drained. She even did it as I was having a number two (sat outside the door and turned the phone volume up) 😡

gamerchick · 19/12/2020 21:48

Ah the blackmaily token post. Always look out for them Grin
SuperSleepyBaby · 19/12/2020 21:51

Its not realistic to “cherish every moment” when you are with your children all day and they are driving you mad.

Sometimes I set a timer on my phone for 15 or 30 minutes and focus on the child for that time - and then I feel less guilty afterwards telling them I need to do something else now.

desperatelyseeking1 · 19/12/2020 21:52

Yep mine does this.

I've seen enough roblox and TikTok s to last me a lifetime. And yes the worst is if you look away for 1 second or cough, or sneeze, and it gets rewinded back all again. And after all that, the questions that fire at you to make sure you were really watching.
