Aibu to dry my cat?

KindergartenKop · 19/12/2020 19:53

Asking for a friend 🐱

Aibu to get out a towel and rub the cats down when they come in the cat flap soaking wet from the rain? Aibu for also making very sympathetic noises at them for having to go out in the cold to catch mice for us all?

We do this. He used to protest, but now he demands a good run down if he's a soggy moggy.

Lostinagoodbook · 19/12/2020 19:55

YANBU or maybe you are and I am too!! Our cats follow us round meowing pitifully if we don't.

GeorgeMichaelsEspadrille · 19/12/2020 19:55

Rub down.

dun1urkin · 19/12/2020 19:57

I always dry the cats when they come in wet. They ask me to, but I’m only allowed to use a bedsheet. Towels or tea towels are not ok.

Duckduckduck123 · 19/12/2020 20:35

We have a tea towel that lives in the radiation by the door for that purpose alone. 1 cat asks for a rub down, 1 consents and the other runs back outside if I try 🐺🐱🐱

BibiBlocksberg · 19/12/2020 20:37

Absolutely not unreasonable OP, all part of the spectacle of welcoming home the ‘heroes’

All of my 3 boys have gotten used to being dried to the point they have developed special ‘dry me’ meows & will not stop until the kitchen roll sheets have been passed over the royal bodies to soak up every drop of rain accompanied by congratulations on being such brave soldiers :)

I read an article on a cat blog once that said all Cats are little ‘hams’ at heart & love a bit of good natured dramatisation from their humans. Certainly holds true in this house.

dun1urkin - bedsheets, goodness, that’s pretty exacting standards your lot have, hope it doesn’t have to be a fresh one each time, fainting at the v idea of the wash load that would create :)

TroysMammy · 19/12/2020 20:37

I had a cat who would love a rub down then promptly go back outside in the rain.

HirplesWithHaggis · 19/12/2020 20:39

I have to use paper tissues for mine. They do insist, but don't like towels. My old tom cat used to lick them dry, but he died last year and it became my job.

Goldensunnydays81 · 19/12/2020 20:39

My cat won’t let me rub her down but if she comes in wet when I’m in bed, she loves to jump into bed and get under the covers to dry off!

PoloNeckKnickers · 19/12/2020 20:42

My cats demand a rub down when wet. I like to use an old checked tea towel and when I dry their heads, I pretend they're shepherds in a nativity play.

PrincessSarene · 19/12/2020 20:42

I say no but my cat would say you are vvvvvvvvv unreasonable. I still always try and dry him off a bit though Grin

Tehmina23 · 19/12/2020 20:42

My old cat was an outdoor cat who hated being rubbed down with the tea towel, she used to run off with it wrapped around her!!

helpfulperson · 19/12/2020 20:43

Its important that you chase them around the house going 'who's a soggy moggy?' first

FangsForTheMemory · 19/12/2020 20:44

I rub my cat down, much to his disgust, because I don’t want him dripping everywhere!

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 19/12/2020 20:47

I dry idiotcat with the dog towel to serve him right for going out in the rain, making it look like no once cares for him and he has not got very very many dry warm cosy places to go and copious indoor trays to use and no reason whatsoever to have to go out in the rain.

He much prefers to come in and shake himself all over someone and leave dirty wet pawprints on absolutely everything.

QueenPaws · 19/12/2020 20:48

Mine demands drying. Loves a towel

Aibu to dry my cat?
Emmelina · 19/12/2020 20:57

We made the mistake of grabbing a towel from the tumble dryer to rub one of ours down once. Now she expects nothing less and will howl at the dryer!

TrainspottingWelsh · 19/12/2020 20:58

Yabu. Regardless of what you are doing, you should dress in something expensive and easily marked, and then they can sit on your knee and dry themselves off by tunnelling into your clothes.
Unless of course you also own an ancient, anti social ex Tom, when you should have a whole thermatex horse rug laid out ready, pre heated on a radiator, and when he has graced the centre with his disdainful presence you will be honoured with the privilege of folding the ends over him to form a cocoon. Old, torn or everyday use thermatexs of course not acceptable, they must be immaculate.

BibiBlocksberg · 19/12/2020 21:04

QueenPaws that pic has a definite flavour of Star Wars about it ‘help us Obi-Wan your our only hope’ :)

helpfulperson - ‘whose a soggy kitty’ - stealing that 💕

Goldensunnydays81 - ewwww, wet alarm clock :) Can somewhat relate as one of mine is very fluffy & occasionally comes in soaked just as i’ve padded to the bathroom at some ungodly hour in the night.

Robbed of the chance to put on trousers my legs are then rudely used as a ‘towel’ :)

Really wish there was a ‘like’ button facility on this site tonight!

dun1urkin · 19/12/2020 21:09

BibiBlocksberg no, fortunately they don’t need clean sheets.
It does mean we have to go upstairs to do the drying, though.

Avonandice · 19/12/2020 21:10

I had a semi-feral evil ball of hatred.

I never even tried it with him

I liked my hands in one piece.

CathyorClaire · 19/12/2020 21:11

Princess Furry Paws won't accept a towel down. She prefers natural dissipation into a warm, dry lap.

Aahotep · 19/12/2020 21:12

Mine prefer to rub themselves on my leg to dry off

claireb7rg · 19/12/2020 21:12

The mogs say I am very unreasonable, but I would say not unreasonable at all. I have a towel on the radiator just for this purpose

inappropriateraspberry · 19/12/2020 21:12

I have 2 cats. One somehow stays pretty dry even in a storm, the others call my catdog. He gets soaking wet and has to be dried off with a towel. He loves it. He also loves rolling over and having his tummy tickled - a true catdog!
He came in earlier with water running off his tail and muddy paws 🙄
