Well, on an earlier thread about a Wasp, someone had their post pulled as they got into a bate about ''Could of''

They shouted '' Could have, have ,have !

I replied '' You could of made that clearer '' and we both had posts deleted.

Clearly even joking about grammar is clearly a MN offence.

I think it depends on what kind of English tutor one had..If they were strict on the basics of grammar or not.

Because pedants make things work. We're the ones who are precise and get it right. We don't just slap things together and hope the other person understands what we're talking about.

If you are ever in the position of having to defend yourself in court please never tell your lawyer that you "can't fucking stand a pedant" unless you are deliberately trying to loose the case.

While I largely agree with you, you fucking gifted the dissenting opinions that one . . .

Viscous circle sounds like it could possibly be cake to me - something like a gooey chocolate cake. I was reading about someone's roll earlier in the context of work. I don't think the person was a baker, either.

Quite! It makes all the difference! Just ask the Wombles! I mistakenly thought they were common throughout my whole childhood becasue I assumed a comma that wasn't there! Without any basic rules of grammar or any sense to the words we string together, language will devolve to a point where people cannot understand what someone is trying to communicate.
