To think that the over 80’s Covid Vaccine is slow to materialise?

Mincepie5 · 17/12/2020 16:05

I phoned the GP who signposted me to the local health board who signposted me to the GP again. No one seemed to know anything about a vaccination programme. I have emailed the local government and had a reply to thank me for my email that will usually be responded to in 15 days! Anyone in South Wales Aneurin Bevan area know what is going on with regards to this?

My father is 83 should be regarded as a priority. It doesn’t seem that way though.

My DF (90) has had his, but no appointment yet for DM (84).
Not in Wales.

Yubaba · 17/12/2020 16:18

As far as I know you will receive a letter when it’s your turn, our GP has said to not ring and ask as they aren’t doing the booking, it’s being done centrally by the CCG (obviously in England)

Plussizejumpsuit · 17/12/2020 16:29

I think you're being really impatient. The gov have handled load sof covid stuff badly. But honestly moaning about this before it has even started is a bit fucking much. The vaccine was approved weeks ago.

Bramshott · 17/12/2020 16:31

I spoke to several neighbours in their late 80s/early 90s today who had had theirs or were going in this afternoon. I was pleasantly surprised to see it happening so quickly. I'm in Hampshire.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 17/12/2020 16:32

MIL gets hers at the weekend. We were surprised she’s getting it so soon.

Crumpetycrump · 17/12/2020 16:32

My next door neighbour of 85 is having hers tomorrow.

Nomaj · 17/12/2020 16:32

My Grandad just had his, age 95.

They are working their way down. Maybe you just have a lot of older people in your locality going first.

GintyMcGinty · 17/12/2020 16:33

It's only been going for a week and care home residents come first.

Chutneymaura · 17/12/2020 16:37

Rang surgery for my 95 year old mum today. Apparently they’ve used all their first batch vaccines now do she won’t get called till the new year. Names of all over 80’s were put in a random generator program in computer and hers didn’t come out. So it’s not really based on over 80 + how vulnerable/old it’s a simple lottery. I’m still processing this as it seems a bit weird.

Scarby9 · 17/12/2020 16:38

North Yorkshire here - several neighbours over 90 have had their first jab.
One had an email appointment for a week ahead; one had a phonecall to their home phone the day before yesterday afternoon for yestersay evening at a hub 20 miles away. Apparently very well organised with people with torches directing in the carpark and guiding elderly people through. Friend was allowed in with his elderly mum.
My parents in Northumberland? Nothing. And none of their friends (all in their 80s and 90s) have heard anything either.

foodtoorder · 17/12/2020 16:40

The government and nhs have clearly advertised that they will be in contact with you when they can give it to you. Do you think it's helpful to chase for it?
It's out there, just be patient.

Pascha · 17/12/2020 16:40

Locally one batch of 975 have been allocated, another is due in 3 weeks time and that's it to cover approx 2500 eligible patients (mobile patients, care homes are separate). There isn't enough yet.

KatieGGGG · 17/12/2020 16:42

I think you’re being a little impatient.

There are over 3 million over 80s in the U.K.

Only so many people can administer the vaccine.

It was only approved 2 weeks ago.

I think it’s being administered incredibly fast!

alreadytaken · 17/12/2020 16:43

some gp practises are starting before others. Vaccinations have started in Cwmbran and if you can find out exactly where and take your relative at the end of the day there may be some doses people couldnt have. You are not supposed to do that but better than a dose going to waste. www.southwalesargus.co.uk/news/18927845.coronavirus-latest-news-newport-gwent-wales/

DietCokePolice · 17/12/2020 16:44

It’s being rolled out as fast as supplies arrive. You will be contacted when it is time for you to be vaccinated. Chasing up your GP and Health Board is just creating extra work for overburdened resources.

SoupDragon · 17/12/2020 16:47

My mum is 83 and I would not expect her to be top of the list /in the first wave as she is not vulnerable and not in a care home.

Porcupineinwaiting · 17/12/2020 16:49

YABU. It's been 2 weeks.

dementedma · 17/12/2020 16:53

We struggled to get a flu jab for mum up here in Fife as Fife council couldnt organise a piss up in a brewery. Not holding my breath on the covid jab...

thriftyhen · 17/12/2020 16:53

My mother had hers this morning. Not in Wales though.

Plastichearts · 17/12/2020 16:54

Tbf the 91 year old whose interview went viral apparently rang Guys Hospital about the vaccine on the very first day it became available and they said come in this afternoon.

mollscroll · 17/12/2020 16:57

Yes I was surprised by the 91 year old ringing up and getting in. I don't think it's supposed to work like that. If there are 3m over 80 year olds and millions more in other age brackets who are also vulnerable, this will clearly take many weeks to work through. My mum is also 80 and extremely vulnerable due to multiple health conditions - no news yet. She is content to wait until she is called.

DougRossIsTheBoss · 17/12/2020 17:00

Chutney I'm sorry your mum didn't get it in the first wave but a random pick of names within the risk category seems as fair as anything.

I mean if there are more people than doses then what else should they do? Alphabetical is hardly fair. Working out an order of vulnerability would take ages. I'd probably rather it was random than cronyism or who shouts loudest.

peony68 · 17/12/2020 17:01

Neither of my parents both 89 years old living in london have had their vaccine yet ( or had any communication indicating when they will be getting it ) , my Dad is clinically extremely vulnerable and was on the NHS shielding scheme , really hoping they can both have it soon .

tinselfest · 17/12/2020 17:03

They can't wave a magic wand and give the vaccine to several million people in a few days.

Everyone will just have to use some patience.
