To think 7.45am is too early to ring someone's doorbell (even if you are delivering a package)

I think it is but couriers keep doing it when delivering packages....I think 7.45 is fine for posting something through the letterbox but I wouldn't ring someone up at this time of the morning, he woke my ds up....

You're definitely being unreasonable. Most people are up and about by then. And most people don't get parcels every day, so it's not like they would get woken up early as an everday occurrence. I would rather be woken up than possibly miss a delivery later because everyone was out, then have to trot up to the sorting office to collect it.

Our parcel deliveries (Royal Mail) tend to come anytime from 7 a.m. Courier ones are usually during the day, when there's less chance of anyone being in.

We used to have regular deliveries of something that had to be signed for, and they always came on a Saturday, without fail. So we used to actually get up early, just after 7, make a 'real' coffee and have a bit of a chat in peace before the children got up, all while waiting for the postman to ring!

Moomin · 23/10/2007 09:19

Yeah It would have been a lot easier if he'd taken the package back to the depot, then when you finally decided it was a decent hour you could have bundled ds into his clothes and into the car, driven across town, had a dilmemma with yourself whether to leave ds in the car while you nipped in or got him back out of the car again, go and wait in the queue at the depot with him grizzling, get the parcel and wrestle both the parcel and ds back into the car with sweat rolling down your back and drive back home.

Much better then opening the door at 7.45 am

boo64 · 23/10/2007 09:20

OK fair points! I ABU.

That is what this board is good for!
Especially for a person with a slight tendency to turn unreasonable when it isn't fair

I DO wish our regular post turned up at 7.45 tbh - as I said the normal post turns up any time between 10 and 3 or 4pm if at all and is terrible - it's the Parcelforce chaps who keep turning up at 7.45 and seeing me in my PJs half asleep (actually maybe they should be the ones complaining about it after seeing me in that sorry state!)

7.45 am , I think is brillant for a delivery , better than having to wait in all day or re arrange , or collect.

You say that couriers keep doing it - how many packages do you have delivered ? Do you have packages delivered everyday ?

How old is your DS ?

Most people and children are up by then anyway .

boo64 · 23/10/2007 09:25

I have packages delivered perhaps once or twice a week - I work at home part time so get a lot of samples sent to me.

Ds is 2. I am blessed with a good sleeper so definitely no complaints there and I know how lucky I am. On other days he has to be woken up earlier for nursery so I quite like letting him sleep a bit later on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Anyway - it's a fair cop IA (was) BU.

my ds sleeps late too

I think it's a bit early aswell but then again my postman leaves things in the porch for me.

LittleMissNervoustWitch · 23/10/2007 09:58

is your ds a light sleeper? or did the postie bang loudly? my ds would sleep through the door bell/knocker and he is quite a light sleeper.

I dont think 7.45 is to early, the postie has a job to do too and cant predict when a person will be up or not, he probably leaves his parcels till last but dont forget he will have been up since early in the cold, if you have parcels delivered regular then maybe next time ask him to knock less loudly.

Or wait at the end of your street until he sees you open your curtains

ScaryScaryNight · 23/10/2007 10:01

YABU!

Goodness me, not up by 7.45? You lucky woman! We are just finnishing breakfast by then! 8 sharp my cleaner comes, we should be up and away by then, and fingers crossed any deliveries would have arrived before we go!

CatIsSleepy · 23/10/2007 10:06

YABU-the earlier the better I think!
mind you I'm out of the house by 7.30 normally....

boo64 · 23/10/2007 10:07

Little miss - the guy delivering was not bringing the normal post - as I said that never comes before 10, sometimes not til the afternoon - he was the parcelforce courier so not doing the regular post too

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 23/10/2007 10:08

YABU.

i love our parcelforce guy as he arrives at 7.30-ish.

TinyGang · 23/10/2007 10:09

No problem with 7.45 here. I'd be quite impressed they were out and working bright and early

Too early for phone calls though. I wouldn't phone up friends/family at that time of day either (unless an emergency of course).

Pollyanna · 23/10/2007 10:12

we had a parcel guy arrive at 6.45am yesterday. That was too early (although he suffered more than me - I was still in my pjs )

MrsBadger · 23/10/2007 10:39

at least you were wearing pyjamas
I usually end up having to grab a towel / dh's dressing gown / yesterday's jumper

the worst one was an urgent work delivery for dh that came when I was in the bath with 6wo dd...

Ihategreedypropertydevelopers · 23/10/2007 10:41

Our parcels are coming earlier and earlier, 6.30 a.m. on Saturday!

FrankAwenstein · 23/10/2007 10:43

sorry boo but YABU as I am sat in today waiting for mobile phone to be delivered. Could be any time between 7am & 6pm. Tbh i am going to pop out and if it comes when out perhaps the neighbour will be in and look after it.

I would have been very happy with an early delvery so i could get on with my day.

Twitsthatgobumpinthenight · 23/10/2007 10:47

yes you are. sorry it may be annoying but if you are told anytime between.... then you should be ready for it to come. we often get stuff at 7;00, so I at least make sure I'm dressed lol.

Lorayn · 23/10/2007 10:49

A lot of deliveries are done so early so that couriers can get all of their next day deliveries done that day, and also to try to avoid people being out at work.
If it bothers you you could always leave a note asking for people not to ring the door bell/knock before a certain time.
Or get a doorbell like I have, you have to plug it in, but it also means you can unplug it

SeaShells · 23/10/2007 10:49

Wow 7.45am is late in our house! I once got a catalogue delivered at 4am which I thought was ridiculous.

OrmIrian · 23/10/2007 10:51

What should he do with it then?

No...don't answer that

FranSanDisco · 23/10/2007 10:51

Not too early imho - YABU

TheQueenOfQuotes · 23/10/2007 10:51

I'd be quite happy with 7.45 - DH's work stuff (which comes at least fornightly - stationery comes alternate weeks) tends to arrive at around 7am! And it's all special delivery.

mumeeee · 23/10/2007 10:53

YABU. I much prefer to have parcels delivered when someone is home. If they are delivered in the afternoon we are usually out at,work, college and school. Then DH has to go and fetch it from the depot which can take ages.

OrmIrian · 23/10/2007 10:55

Quite mumeee.

I've been ordering christmas present online and you can guarantee that they are delivered just after I've gone to work...or just before I get home. I've only been working a half day recently and I've still missed them. 7.45 would be great.

littleNonSpecificHolidaylapin · 23/10/2007 10:57

YABU!!!!

Oh - you already know that
