AIBU to ask you what sells best? I'm trying to raise some surplus cash this week to buy a few extra stocking fillers for the family and I have plenty of stuff I could sell but not sure what actually sells best. Clothes? shoes? CDs? Homewares? Books? Toys? Pictures? Crockery? I'm a bit of a hoarder so don't know where to start.

I sold lots of baby equipment quickly. I took good photos and priced them reasonably.

Decadentdolphin · 14/12/2020 21:29

Thanks @Elenorrigbywoes - that's really helpful. Anyone else?

Kids stuff and kitchen stuff.

Cheap prices and lots of photos. I usually sell my stuff the same day I post it up.

Decadentdolphin · 14/12/2020 21:35

Thanks @livingthegoodlife - that's a good point as when I'm looking on there to buy I hate it if there's only one photo and keep clicking away to try to see more. When you say kitchen stuff do you mean electrical type stuff or more bowls and pans etc

Decadentdolphin · 14/12/2020 21:44

@Pimmsypimms - what did you price them at? I have a few of those......

Furniture, I made £75 in about 10 minutes selling an old TV unit and some old dining chairs. Price it quire cheap and so e things go in minutes!

livingthegoodlife · 14/12/2020 22:03

Kitchen stuff I've sold recently: large jar, cafetiere, teapot, serving dish, cheese board etc.

But if you want it gone, sell it cheap. Say the teapot cost £15, sell for £3-4 unless it's branded. See what other people have the same items up for.

Toys, homeware, books - David Walliams are popular
Never had much luck with clothes.

triceratops12 · 14/12/2020 22:08

Toys and home items. Price things cheap and they often go in the first few minutes. I find that it's the things I think nobody will want that sell the fastest! Good photos to.

CoRhona · 14/12/2020 22:10

I put up two matching Christmas t-shirts M/L and nothing...guess jumpers are the way to go.

SnackSizeRaisin · 14/12/2020 22:10

Anything can sell if the price is right! Look what others are charging and charge slightly less.

naechunce · 14/12/2020 22:15

Agree it's always the things you think won't sell that sell the fastest!
This week I've sold a pair of Heelys (£15 but have been worn twice max), two Christmas jumpers (£5 each) and a pair of kids football boots (£5).
Branded stuff to fit teenagers always goes quick!

Dartsplayer · 14/12/2020 22:17

Kids clothes and toys definately

infinitediamonds · 14/12/2020 22:19

Its really random. If you want to get rid then price cheap and if it doesn't sell in a couple of weeks then freecycle it. Also some stuff - like toys that are more unusual characters or specialist brands - sell for good money on Ebay when you can't shift them at all on Marketplace.

WitchQueenofDarkness · 14/12/2020 22:23

I've done it once and it was an utter nightmare. It was for a large item that had to be collection only

Unfortunately FB has decided I live in Liverpool. I am nowhere near Liverpool but can't seem to change it,

Despite me saying in my ad in capitals that I AM NOT IN LIVERPOOL and giving the correct location, all the responses came from Liverpool!

Fishfingersandwichplease · 14/12/2020 22:29

The only things l have managed to shift on there lately was something l gave away for free, then aChristmas tree that someone l am friends with bought. Had so many time wasters. Sorry OP don't want to sound negative but my experience has not been great on marketplace.

Xmassprout · 14/12/2020 22:32

Just stick it all on for cheap. If it sells, great. If not, donate.

Decadentdolphin · 14/12/2020 22:33

Tons of useful advice - thanks everyone.

Kids books, kids toys, furniture, fancy kitchenware, baby equipment, gardening equipment, anything for walking/hiking, kitchen electricals.

Pimmsypimms · 14/12/2020 23:13

Well I put on a bundle of 3 Christmas tops (jumper, long sleeved top, short sleeved top) at £6, then 2 jumpers listed separately at £4 each. Tbh, I probably could have got more as they all sold within 24 hrs but I just wanted to get rid of them. One of the women who bought a jumper said she'd been everywhere to try and find one for her ds but they'd sold out in a lot of places.

Dontlickthetrolley · 14/12/2020 23:19

I've made £50 in the last 10 days selling Christmas jumpers for kids, the lead up to Christmas Jumper Day was mad! People are very annoying though, arrange to pick up and then never turn up and never reply if you query if they still want something! Xmas Angry

lampygirl · 14/12/2020 23:47

Facebook marketplace makes me fully appreciate how many truly dumb people we have in this country. Prepare yourself to repeatedly bash your head against a wall. It does not matter how clear your adverts are I think the majority of purchasers are just illiterate.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 15/12/2020 00:02

I sold a telly with separate stand for £55. Flatscreen. Had loads of interest. Tried to sell Emma Bridgewater bedding but no takers so took to charity shop. I have a load more stuff that could go, just haven't had the time to do it yet.

BritInAus · 15/12/2020 00:22

Haha, I'm with you, Lampygirl.

However, as others say, price it slightly cheap and it will go. Also think about your titles and will people searching for things find it. I often see really vague titles like 'girls toys' when actually it would be far better to say, for example, Barbie Accessories - Bulk Lot or Polly Pocket Sets.
