To my ordered flowers are meh?

Ordered flowers for a friend. Wanted to make an extra special effort so splashed out £60.

First pic is advertised flowers. Second pic actual.

I think it's a bit poor. Friend loves them. Should I complain?

I'd be disappointed if I'd chosen the first bouquet, as I'd rather have a mix of interesting flowers & foliage to work with; however the second one could look elegant & your friend presumably doesn't know what it should look like.

This what I got for £30 recently; there were more carnations than are visible in the photos. (I loved it & added my own Christmassy foliage.)

@crazyfishh

If they'd been arranged better I wouldn't have complained about the lack of variety however it looks a bit of a mess. If your friend loves them I'd ask for a bit of a refund vs new flowers completely unless you think she's just being nice and would appreciate new ones.
I think she's being nice as she is such a kind person.

Think they can do better than this effort so have asked for new flowers instead of a refund.

Snow, it was from a really good local florist.

orangenasturtium · 14/12/2020 16:54

Actually, I think the second bouquet is better value than the first bouquet. It has more roses and holly berries, which are more expensive than the St John's wort berries. It also has more foliage. If you took some of the foliage out, it would look very similar to the first bouquet, just using slightly different seasonal items.

How do you know? Are you the florist? (Awkward) Confused

No, I ordered them for myself!

Oh. Was hoping this was going to be an instant MN fix.

Felt so awkward there though Blush

Most importantly, your friend loves them. I think that’s tells you everything you need and I’d be thrilled with the extra roses that are in there bunch.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 14/12/2020 17:02

Well I don't know about anyone else, but I'm confused.

I think I'll toddle off & have a glass of Baileys. That'll help.

Grin Definitely complain OP, they're not as advertised.

goopsoup · 14/12/2020 17:04

Well I don't know about anyone else, but I'm confused.

I have that affect.

cameocat · 14/12/2020 17:05

I'd recommend bloom and wild, they're good value and I've never been let down by them.

TheVanguardSix · 14/12/2020 17:08

They look parched... like the flowers that the delivery guy forgot to deliver to me for two days (they were in his van). They were in quite a sorry state by the time I got them. I can see, looking at your photo, that they're tired and that not a whole lot of thought's been put into that arrangement. For £60, even in covid times, I'd expect the florist to improvise where some plants may be missing. Surely they could have tried a little harder.

randomchap · 14/12/2020 17:11

Avoid the relay companies and go direct to local florists. As the middleman is cut out, there is more money available for the flowers.

Apologies.

I thought you had posted to me that you knew my flowers were from a good local florist as you were the florist or knew them ...

when you were telling me where you got your lovely flowers from Smile

listsandbudgets · 14/12/2020 17:16

I sent my mum some flowers for her birthday last month.

Like you I was gutted when I saw the photo she sent me as it looked nothing like what I was expecting. However a few days later, she sent me another photo saying how it looked even lovelier now more of them had opened and they really did - I'd not realized how many buds were hidden in the foliage!!

Hopefully you'll find the same OP thought I have to say it does look rather rushed and a bit thrown together

x2boys · 14/12/2020 17:20

Not great for £60 ,you could have a far nicer bunch from Sainsbury's for £10.

museumum · 14/12/2020 17:26

I think if you’re disappointed whatever you decide to say to the florist just keep it to your self and don’t involve your friends. Right now she thinks she got lovely flowers and is happy

If you let her know you don’t think they’re what you paid for you might feel better but she’ll have a whole load of negativity attached to a bunch she was pleased with till now. You’ll spoil the whole flower receiving event for her.

Noidontwantmootard · 14/12/2020 17:32

£60 !! Flippin heck I’d be disappointed so yanbu

sorryforswearing · 14/12/2020 17:34

They’re nothing like what you ordered and I’d complain. This once happened to me. My sister sent me some and they were half dead. I contacted the firm and said I didn’t really want to tell my sister but I wasn’t having her paying for something that wasn’t up to standard. They sent me a second bouquet that was no better. I rang again and they sent out a third bouquet which was fine. I live a long way from my sister so she never got to see what they’d sent. Part of me would have liked to tell her so she wouldn’t order from them again but I couldn’t bring myself to.

NorbertMeubles · 14/12/2020 17:37

It's not what is in the picture of what you paid for so yes, I would complain.

NorbertMeubles · 14/12/2020 17:38

You should use Bloom & Wild, they are amazing

Wallabyone · 14/12/2020 18:02

The roses look droopy and brown at the edges, and the arrangement is terrible. Also, I can't understand how they justify that being £60 (understandable, sort of, when prices are hiked up at Valentines, etc).
