Do household appliances count as gifts?

I don't mean replacing something that's broken/on it's last legs or something that was never in the house and being bought for the first time.

More like, one partner wants a bigger bed, a comfier sofa(i forgot to include household items in the title too) , a nicer TV, a bigger fridge.. things like that and the other partner buys they for Christmas/birthday,especially if the wishes are expressed around that time.

YABU - household items/appliances are not gifts and it's a lazy/disrespectful/horrible thing to do.

YANBU - if it's an expressed wish then it counts as a gift.

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss

Games consoles, hair gadgets and maybe a tv if it’s purely an upgrade to a working one I’d say were gifts.

Rest no. Household essentials and not a gift. Bit like buying clothes, toothbrushes etc for children for Christmas.

This is what I was going to say - tv yes, fridge / sofa / other items like that, no

Depends on so many things.

I'd be pissed off if my DH bought me household items.

My DP on the other hand have bought us lots of household appliances for gifts toaster, kettle, microwave, crockery etc. PIL once bought us a hoover. It kind of makes sense our parents buying practical joint gifts.

@SchrodingersImmigrant

Actually I would be impressed with a frying pan if it's some really good one Blush
OH did get a frying pan for Christmas and a proper wok for his birthday. He likes cooking.Grin

My type of man @AccidentallyOnPurpose 😂

I think it depends, I wouldn’t mind if it was something we wouldn’t be able to usually afford or something non essential. I’ve been after a ring doorbell for ages and would be pleased if I got one as a gift. Even a new hoover that actually works properly as H bought the last one and it’s a cheap Hoover and absolutely useless.

Depends on the person, I prefer practical gifts rather than yet more perfume/smellies/socks etc. Saying that I think it also depends on the present. Last year I got a toilet ......
