To think decent present giving to adults is an impossible task?

I keep looking and looking and looking and time is running out. I sound like a right misery I know but I can't find anything to get my partner for Christmas from either myself or our son. I can do the usual socks, beer, chocolates but everything else seems like fancy tat or something he will never like let alone use. I am struggling. But I was also looking for myself. There is nothing I want. I look at it all and think who would want a personalised leather headphone holder? Good lord I sound a right grump and I'm not but I'm struggling this year. I don't know what to do! I did a tree last year and our garden is brimming with plants so don't want to go down that route again and that's his main hobby.

A really good torch like an LED Lenser

A decent (or better than he's got already) multi tool like a leatherman

If anyone ever bought me either of the above, despite already having a small collection of both, I'd be thrilled. Especially if they upgraded something I already own

my DH does all the cooking and loves it, so I've decided to gradually replace all our his disgusting old baking dishes etc with nice ones!
it's a win-win, I never know what to get him and he never really wants anything, and this way I can throw out the disgusting old pots inherited from his father.

Thanks for all the input. The gardening ideas are good but here is the catch. He is a gardener. He has all the fancy tools and expensive [wo]man gardening things. Our garden is bursting with his ideas and it looks amazing. I honestly wouldn't know what to get for it.

However, I have now considered:

  • fancy fudge. He loves fudge and it's not a "normal" purchase
  • trainers. Yup his are old and tatty and he always buys similar so a good call.
  • pj bottoms from baby DS I think would be good.

Also considering saying we jointly buy a new laptop as ours is rubbish and we need it for his business so could be a good smoothing over present.

My DH just says socks every single birthday/Christmas. He loves having new socks and that’s literally all he ever asks for so I buy him a pack every year without fail. Also got him aftershave this year because he hinted at it and some fancy Earl grey. Got us both a coffee machine which we’re already using Grin.

It is hard though, you’re right. I never know what to buy my Mother. She doesn’t like chocolate so I can’t even cop out with that...

@TramaDollface

We tend to buy ourselves joint presents - means we can splash out.

Our wedding anniversary we bought a painting that we both loved and we’ve just ordered a rowing machine for Xmas. So much better. Means we can be
More indulgent 😂

Yeah same, usually nights/weekends away

One year he got nothing. He's been a lot more forthcoming ever since and he now also hesitates before just buying the bits and bobs he buys himself and has a think about whether he could wait until December to have said thing.

I bought DH a bottle of sassenach whisky. He likes trying new whisky and i know he will like it.

OP, I also find it very difficult buying something for DH. He can already buy anything he wants (within reason!). I've often got some good ideas from MN posters in past years.

DH certainly does not ask for/expect a gift, but I feel like I need to get him something small since he is so great with kids, housework, helping out, etc. (and more especially since he always gets something for me that I like!!).

Luckily, at the end of the day DH is easily pleased I and know how to do that Grin
