Year after year, DP and I have the same disagreement. I open Christmas cards as and when they arrive. He saves his until Christmas. Both insist we are correct.

So I've decided to take this to Mumsnet, please settle the argument for me: do you open your cards before or on Christmas Day?

YABU to open Christmas cards before 25th December - wait!
YANBU to open Christmas cards before 25th December and I do this too

@HOkieCOkie

Cards are to open and display in the lead up to Xmas.
exactly!

YDHITW... your dh is totally wrong. Always as they arrive.

@allthegoodusernameshavegone

Open as you go, then stick them behind the bread bin or microwave with the council tax & water bill.
I read that as you microwaving your Christmas cards and bills!

Not RTFT yet.

You are, quite clearly, DefinitelyNBU!

Each one is opened as it arrives, and displayed to bring joy throughout the season. 🎄🎄🎄

Special cards from you and close family maybe I can understand but other than that nah

jessstan1 · 11/12/2020 18:39

Open Christmas cards as soon as you receive them.

I had two last year telling me of bereavements and I was able to respond straight away. I've known others who have had the same experiences.

MegaClutterSlut · 11/12/2020 18:43

I don't know anyone who waits until Xmas day Confused

MegaClutterSlut · 11/12/2020 18:45

Tell a lie the cards we save for Xmas day are the ones with money in. All other cards get opened when we receive them. Your dh is weird Grin

Bluntness100 · 11/12/2020 18:45

Does he get money in cards? I can’t think of any other reason someone would think they need to wait. Surely he must have seen images of folks with cards all up on mantelpieces etc? Everyone opens Christmas cards as they get them, unless it’s a gift inside the card.

If you don't open your cards, how do you realise you forgot someone and send a quick card back!
