If someone asked you for 3 gifts ideas right now, what would you suggest?

OP posts:
MonaLisaPiles · 10/12/2020 20:35

Beautiful electric wax melter and shed loads of melts
A big crate full of different gins
Some silk pillows

Mummadeeze · 10/12/2020 20:35

I would like a smart water bottle, an oodie and some adult Disney pyjamas.

karmadramallama · 10/12/2020 20:36

Elegant Leather gloves - navy and black - a pair of each.

FangsForTheMemory · 10/12/2020 20:39

Depends on your budget . . . I can be expensive.

 • some books
 • a weekend in Paris
 • a bottle of Ghost scent
mrsfeatherbottom · 10/12/2020 20:40
@mrsfeatherbottom I absolutely ADORE them. I’m amazed pretty deskware hasn’t gone crazy this Christmas what with all the WFH, but in fact some vintage paperweight prices have bottomed out.
What do you call the ones with the flowers in them - I think they are Italian? My mum had one when I was little.

NotMiranda · 10/12/2020 20:42

Georg Jensen Grapes ring (the one with the bunch on it)
Big bunch of dark red and buff roses
Perfume - Philosykos, Timbuktu, or one of my other regulars

laughoutquiet · 10/12/2020 20:44

Hair straighteners
Half sized gym mat
Turtle Dove cashmere fingerless gloves

FangsForTheMemory · 10/12/2020 20:46

Millefiore?

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 10/12/2020 20:46

@JustLikeStitch

Whenever someone asks me this question I suddenly seem to know absolutely nothing about myself. I am a person with interests and likes and dislikes but can I fuck remember them when asked
This

I start mentally compiling a Christmas list in June (shortly after birthday)
Problem is, if it's something I really want, I get it.
This year - a specific pair of PJs from M&S - I look at them longingly every time I go in and think "but I don't NEED another pair of pyjamas..

After reading a thread on here about Christmas duvets, which I didn't know were a thing, "tasteful winter themed duvet cover" went on the list, with an addendum of 'No bloody elves or Father Christmas ones' - some of those things are scary.
While looking at Christmas Duvets, I came across weighted blankets - I hadn't heard of those before, but I really really needed to try one out then and there, so I got that for myself rather than add it to the list.

Had a lovely gift of hand cream and bath stuff from "& Other Stories" - I'd not had any of their stuff before, it's really good, esp the hand cream

Nanasueathome · 10/12/2020 20:47

I don’t actually need anything so I’ve asked for surprises

I have just realised though that I’ve got 3 Caithness paperweights that were given to me by a relative over 25 years ago

AIBU to ask wtf you want?
Ffsnosexallowed · 10/12/2020 20:47

3 laptops for clinical team at work. They asked due to wave the magic wand which got them their extension leads earlier this year. They don't know that I just popped into argos for those. Can't get laptops for love nor money in nhs just now

Barmyfarmy · 10/12/2020 20:47

Christmassy PJs- can't seem to find any traditional looking ones, only ridiculously tiny shorts or stupid 'loungewear'
Coffee bean grinder
A massive stoneware mug big enough to require 5 teabags for a decent brew

Molehillfromamountain · 10/12/2020 20:50

Jonathan Adler NHS Rainbow Puzzle
Keep warm coffee mug thingy
Perfume

Davros · 10/12/2020 20:53

Secondsop I grew up with antique paperweights, my mum had a large collection of really good ones. Sadly worth F all when she died. We kept a few favourites and put the rest in auction

ParlezVousWronglais · 10/12/2020 20:54

1) I collect glass paperweights so anything pretty off eBay
(2) I also collect decorative eggs

Are you a hoarder?

(3) scented candles will always go down well - not in a boring default gift way - anyone who has ever spent time here knows I light one every evening.

Do you have a fire extinguisher?

Navy trainers by Studio Nicholson
Stella McCartney perfume
Books.

MoiraNotRuby · 10/12/2020 21:00

Money for home improvements- I am wfh in a room that really needs decorating and its a very depressing place to spend 40 hours a week.

But as that's not a lovely treat relaxing gift that people like to wrap up, I'm suggesting bubble bath and candles because I also like them and can just save up for some paint....

missmouse101 · 10/12/2020 21:00

An oven clean session, amazon voucher, pasta evangelist gift.

Secondsop · 10/12/2020 21:03

@mrsfeatherbottom yes @FangsForTheMemory has it - millefiori.

@ParlezVousWronglais I hoard/collect these two types of items I guess. Although I would say the word hoarding has connotations of an unhealthy emotional attachment, which I don’t have. I do have a fire extinguisher, and I also sit right beside the candle all evening while I watch tv or read.

@Nanasueathome a gifted Caithness was where it started for me.

@Davros your mum’s paperweights would be making someone else very happy now. Maybe me! Some of mine are ones that others have moved on as they’ve edited their own collections.

Secondsop · 10/12/2020 21:05

I had to look up what an oodie is, and it’s in fact the perfect present for someone I needed to buy for, so thanks!

MyPersona · 10/12/2020 21:05

Leather notebook folder from Choosing Keeping
Fountain pen
Frederic Malle music for a while
