to have become a bit obsessed with this house?

Like many of us, I like a bit of fantasy house shopping on Rightmove.

I am planning to move but in 3-5 years so not just yet.

I've found a house I really like. Really really like. Thing is, it's not my 'dream' house. It has a nice garden (plot in total is half an acre) but it's not surrounded by masses of land. It's not a beautiful old manor house or cute country cottage. But there's something about it that has drawn me in. I have viewed the Rightmove page 100s of times now. It's not far from my DP so we took a drive out to it and nosed through the windows (it's an estate sale, vacant possession) and that made me love it even more.

I can't buy it yet as we simply couldn't raise the money needed, I have about 25% in cash but I don't earn enough to get a mortgage for the rest on my own, and DP pays himself only just above min wage. Plus it needs money spending on it, and neither of us are in a position to move right now. If it was for sale in 3 years time that would be perfect.

So I know it's not meant to be, but still...I really need to find a distraction (this was a distraction from being sad about lockdown, working from home, feeling isolated etc but has now become an obsession. Every day I check that it's not been sold!). Any suggestions? - other than hoping for a lottery win/ mystery inheritance.

If I was to sell my current house I could definitely afford it, it's just 3 years too soon. We could stretch to it now with a big mortgage depending on what proof of DP's earnings they could accept. It's not permanently out of reach, it's really a timing issue!

I probably need other things to focus on but since March my life has become so limited to these 4 walls it's a nice distraction :)

Worth it for the Wisteria alone!

Tessabelle74 · 10/12/2020 17:33

Ooooh that garden sells it for me! It has loads of potential too

CowCuddler · 10/12/2020 17:35

My hobby is Rightmove, I've mentally renovated and extended so many houses.

I think its actually making me depressed. Though the national lottery are doing well out of it as I tend go follow a rightmove browse with lottery ticket purchases Blush

TreacleHart · 10/12/2020 17:38

I think they were more gardeners than diy ers ! It has potential but would take lots of money to make perfect.

Autumnchill · 10/12/2020 17:50

Huge potential but you had me at the Wisteria.

I can see why you would love this, I've already decorated it in my head for you 😀

Mere1 · 10/12/2020 18:11

I would definitely move heaven and earth to secure the purchase. Go for it.

Enidblyton1 · 10/12/2020 18:17

I quite like the house, but we were in Ellesmere this summer and the whole place felt very tired and needing investment. A couple of beautiful old canal buildings are ripe for redevelopment.
If I was going to live in Shropshire, I would chose Ludlow a million times over Ellesmere (just my opinion and hope I don’t offend anyone who lives in Ellesmere!).

MollyMinniesMum · 10/12/2020 18:26

I think the wisteria is swaying it for you 🤣

Nellisterr · 10/12/2020 18:34

I love a post about houses or buying... So I had to click and it's so strange and unexpected... It's around the corner from where my husband grew up! Lovely area and town! We don't live too far from the Town now either! Good luck OP! Smile

Greeneyedmumma · 10/12/2020 18:35

Ellesmere is a stunning place to live!

Yespresh · 10/12/2020 18:39

Go and view it. I felt the same about a house
and when we viewed it was ruddy awful. Every room you either had to go up or down a step.

MamaSharkDooDooDooDooDooDooo · 10/12/2020 18:41

@dreamhouse2020

I am reluctant to post it in case someone starts feeling the same way as me and makes an offer on it Grin

But ok - here goes. I suspect most people might think it's a bit ugly, but not to me! (this is not my normal style of house at all, it's just won me over)

the house

Blimey!! That house would be at least £895k around here! It has amazing potential!
Enidblyton1 · 10/12/2020 18:48

Ah it’s good to see some love for Ellesmere! To be fair, when you visit somewhere you only get an impression based on looks - I saw derelict canal buildings, young kids smoking spliffs and lots of weeds at the edge of pavements! Just a feeling of being unloved - but it sounds like I went on a bad day?!

caringcarer · 10/12/2020 18:48

Snap. During lockdown in between climbing the walls I was on Rightmove a lot. I noticed a huge Manor house/hall near to.me and it was up for over twice the value of my home but I fell on love with it. I drove DH mad about it. Then one day it was taken off the market. Not sold as I looked under sstc. I look periodically to see if back on again. The same people are living there as I see same cars outside on courtyard.

CoronaIsWatching · 10/12/2020 18:50

It just looks like a massive shoebox, not for me personally

Bin85 · 10/12/2020 19:01

That would cost twice as much in the South East.
You could do an amazing extension on that !

Bobbi73 · 10/12/2020 19:14

I live in one of the most expensive parts of England so I'd love that house. Round my way, 3 bed semi's cost £600.
I like it anyway. They garden is lovely.
I had my heart set on a house but we got gazumped and lost it. The house we're in now is so much better. The right house will come up 😀

Hplewie · 10/12/2020 19:40

I think dreaming about this house is escapism for you it is fantastic to have that during lockdown like a crush on a pop star it's emotionally absorbing and there's no harm in it - I hope you get something equally as lovely in 3 years but if it's not for you don't be too sad 😢

StoneofDestiny · 10/12/2020 19:42

It's been on the market a long time, judging by what is in flower in the garden

Nik2019 · 10/12/2020 20:30

It's lovely! Initial knee jerk reaction is that it's quite expensive, have you thought about putting in a low offer and seeing how you get on? Sometimes estate sales consider lower offers as they're not relying on full price to buy another property, and often they're marketing at a higher price than they expect to get just to test the market, maybe worth a shot?! At least that way you know you tried and may help you move on x

cactusisblooming · 10/12/2020 20:32

I'd buy it for the wisteria alone. The rest of the house has great potential too.

Aria999 · 10/12/2020 20:42

The land is nice but I can't get remotely excited about the house. Boxy with weird shaped windows and no 'flow'.

I liked the other one someone posted with the lovely field and patio.

Wilkie1956mog · 10/12/2020 20:58

I love it too. If only . . .
