No, if it was a bad cold I wouldn’t feel up to it and also I wouldn’t want to pass it onto my hairdresser and whoever else is in the salon.

ohmysquash · 07/12/2020 08:29

No, not in normal times either.
And obviously if that cold involves cough and fever they need a covid test.

Sparklesocks · 07/12/2020 08:29

Oh sorry are you saying the hairdresser has a cold?

pinkbalconyrailing · 07/12/2020 08:30

no.
covid sometimes comes with cold symptoms.

I would expect the hairdresser not to work with a cold.

Refractory · 07/12/2020 08:31

If she's sniffly but her colouring is good/she looks well/has normal energy I wouldn't care.

If she were yawning, slow, obviously feeling unwell I would not want to be around her.

Brandaris · 07/12/2020 08:32

Hairdressers are often self employed and unlikely to get any sick pay, so I would be very sympathetic if they did work with a cold, but I wouldn’t be happy as I wouldn’t want to catch it.

CaramelCandle · 07/12/2020 08:32

No cos I'm prone to catching colds and would definitely be ill for with it for the next 2 weeks.

EmilyDoesntKnowHerStuff · 07/12/2020 08:38

Yes sorry Sparklesocks the hairdresser has the cold

No. I hope one of the long-term 'benefits' of Covid will be that 'matryrs' who go to work sick will realise that that is the selfish decision and we'll see in a reduction in the spread of flu, serious colds, etc. in the workplace.

GCAcademic · 07/12/2020 08:51

No. This happened to me once, pre-Covid, and I wasn't happy about it then.

userxx · 07/12/2020 08:55

@GruffaIo Hairdressers have been fucked this year with salon closures, they've had months of being without income. Hardly martyrdom is it? More like putting food on the table.

MatildaTheCat · 07/12/2020 08:57

No, my friend only had symptoms of a bad cold when she had COVID. I also wouldn’t want a cold.

Reschedule.

EmilyDoesntKnowHerStuff · 07/12/2020 09:00

Thank you everyone, I agree.

Although I do sympathise userxx, I’m self employed in a different profession and I can understand the pressure to still work when ill xx

The majority of hairdressers are self employed who pay chair rent 365 days a year, regardless of if they are working or not, would you expect them to take time off every time they have a sniffle? They may well of had a negative covid test, they Re in full ppe so unlikely to pass it on to you...

It's hardly martyrdom to go to work in order to get paid!

Most hairdressers are self employed and won't get sick pay. They probably can't afford to stay home with a cold, especially after this year.

HappyChristmas29 · 07/12/2020 09:06

Not not so much because of covid just because it’s minging anyway when someone who full of it. A mild cold - maybe fine but a heavy cold - no.

Nottherealslimshady · 07/12/2020 09:08

Depends in what way. Snotty nose? All good. Cough and sneezing? Nope.

olympicsrock · 07/12/2020 09:15

No it’s not nice to risk giving your clients a cold for Christmas . People should be more mindful of not spreading bugs these days

Cheeseandlobster · 07/12/2020 09:21

Some people on here would have people off sick at the slightest sniffle. Usually the same people who have never had to worry about money in their lives.

If its a bog standard little bit snotty type of cold then they are fine to work. Its your decision of course to cancel your appointment but there may be a charge if its short notice. If its a feverish not well at all cold then she should not be working.

As others have said. Haidressers have been hit hard this year. And if people cancel at short notice they lose income but still pay chair rent.

contrmary · 07/12/2020 09:22

Yes, I would expect them "to take time off every time they have a sniffle" - it's a fucking illness, you should do your utmost not to spread it! Colds affect people in different ways, a "sniffle" to you might be debilitating to the person you pass it onto.

If I went to the hairdresser and they had a cold, I would leave, and never go back.

Lavenderfieldsofprovence · 07/12/2020 09:26

My Covid didn’t have a cough or a fever. I think your hairdresser shouldn’t be in work with cold symptoms for obvious reasons.
Waveysnail · 07/12/2020 09:29

How does she know it isnt covid?

FightingWithTheWind · 07/12/2020 09:32

I understand that you might not be comfortable to attend if she has a cold, but I know that if I take time off work for being sick I don't get paid, and I'm not entitled to SSP - even 1 day off work can mean that I can't afford my bills and I work somewhere that hasn't had to close at all. It isn't martyrdom its a case of having children to look after who need feeding and keeping warm. With all the closures that hairdressers have had to deal with this year I imagine they are in dire straits already financially and really can't afford to take time off for every cold during cold and flu season. They should however be very understanding if a client doesn't want to keep the appointment, and if possible let the client know they have a cold before they show up.

FightingWithTheWind · 07/12/2020 09:34

And as others have said she may well have already taken a test and its come back negative - you don't have to isolate once you've had a negative test.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 07/12/2020 09:37

I’ve had a cold for the past 7 weeks , I don’t get sick pay .. how on earth am I meant to pay the bills if I don’t go to work !, yes it’s cold I’ve tested negative for COVID
