My DPs boss is one of the "freedom warriors" who think that there is a massive conspiracy around the pandemic. I haven't really listened to much of him, although I do occasionally laugh at some idiotic meme he posts on Fb k. I know everyone is titled to their own opinion, so until now I've just stayed quiet. However, today he likened the corona virus to the Jewish holocaust and said it was basically a mass cull. I have now blocked him, but AIBU to think this comparison is disgusting and downright offensive to holocaust victims

OP posts:
flaviaritt · 06/12/2020 20:48

I see. Well, if that were true, it would be comparable to the Holocaust, wouldn’t it? It’s only the fact that it’s bollocks that makes the comparison inappropriate. So the question is why this bloke believes something so ridiculous, not whether he’s an antisemite.

Becca19962014 · 06/12/2020 20:53

patricia yes I'm still without support. It's horrendous. The usual avenues are closed to me for reasons I won't go into on here. I was pre-covid monitored every two weeks by my GP, who was planning to get someone else to see me to help and mental health was monitored weekly. All ended. Literally overnight.

Anyone complaining under my healthboard gets a lecture about the pressures of covid from patient services, which whilst undeniably a problem just what the hell are people like me to do? The guidelines for my conditions are clear - I'm to be monitored weekly at the very least. My last appointment was 16th March. It not only effects health, it effects benefits and access to services as well not being seen.

How anyone can say it's a hoax is beyond me.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 06/12/2020 20:54

@Pinkerbells

Its a cull because they have produced a virus that is killing people and now a vaccine too which will also kill (like a lethal injection)
FFS stop spreading this toxic rubbish and try educating yourself. Normally I'm happy for toxic stupid to take the consequences of its own actions, but not when it screws up everybody else.

Behave yourself.

Iwanttobefreetobeme · 06/12/2020 20:55

The comparison doesn’t make any sense OP, is he really being offensive or just tone deaf!? And I don’t think you can offend dead people lol they’re dead ...

Becca19962014 · 06/12/2020 20:56

pinkerbells there's a shocking number of people around saying this rubbish and, supposedly educated people at that.

flaviaritt · 06/12/2020 20:57

Hopeisnotastrategy

Pinkerbells doesn't think this; the DP’s boss does.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 06/12/2020 20:58

If I've misread that and you are trying to explain this idiot's point of view then I'm sorry, but it's not good to spread this rubbish around.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 06/12/2020 20:59

Thank you flaviaritt.

@PatriciaPerch

I don't think it is a conspiracy theory but I have been concerned about the coronavirus act and how it took rights off people with disabilities

People with learning disabilities are 6 times more likely to die from it. Why?

I suppose if it doesn't personally affect you, you don't care but as we are mainly a female site or Mothers and it is affecting women with LD's more than the general population, is it fair to question that?

I realise Meme etc are a load of crap though and I don't spout on fb tbqh

I absolutely agree there are discussions that could (and should) be had around that issue - both looking at why people with disabilities are more likely to die and also at which groups the measures to mitigate it are affecting the most (e.g. deaf/hearing disabled, single parents) and how to fix it. The problem is the crazy conspiracy theories just make it harder to discuss these issues because they drown out the legitimate concerns with bullshit.
yetanothernamitynamechange · 06/12/2020 21:07

The cutting of of support for people that need it is a MASSIVE issue as is the fact it is almost impossible for people to visit their relatives in care homes/live in facilities. "But covid" is not an excuse.

hoodathunkit · 06/12/2020 21:13

It is vile and disturbing

There is a lot of this kind of thing about at the moment

I was screamed at in a shop today by a mask-avoiding conspiracy theorist who voiced her love of David Icke. She had "done her own research" and didn't believe in wearing masks as the vidus is a hoax.

I said 'i suppose you think that the Queen is a satnist who murders babies?" and she confirmed that she did in fact believe this. She proclaimed her belief in this respect it as though it was the most obvious thing in the world and only stupid people would disbelieve it.

Thankfully she didn't get into any theories about the holocaust but this was probably only because I left the shop as I could take the shouting any longer.

Restores ones faith in human idiocy

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 06/12/2020 21:17

Absolutely vile. Epidemic / pandemic virus va genocides completely incomparable. Ti be honest it's not so much that I'd be disgusted as his morals as asoumted by his stupidity at comparing something thats completely incomparable

CountreeGurl · 06/12/2020 21:36

Is your partner going to report the boss to HR?

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 06/12/2020 21:44

So on the one hand, he has said COVID is a conspiracy and on the other, it's a mass cull?

What sort of conspiracy, obviously not one of the nutters who doesn't believe it, otherwise it couldn't be a mass cull?

But yes it's a new low from the foil hat brigade.

Covid is shining a light to some dark places out there! The theories and attitude of some people is unbelievable!
You have done right reporting and blocking.

GabsAlot · 06/12/2020 22:26

its beyond sick i had relatives die in camps its just so insulting

coconuttyhead · 06/12/2020 22:31

He will consider himself to be terribly clever (senselessly) comparing this pandemic to one of the most horrific atrocities in history and would no doubt sneer at anyone who argues with him. Good for you for reporting and blocking the unhinged little prick.

Ratatcat · 06/12/2020 22:46

I get flaviaritt‘s point. I’ve seen some genuinely distributing conspiracy theories going round and there are people that are convinced that covid has been designed deliberately to kill the population. If he genuinely believes such things then it would be akin to a state sanctioned genocide. Obviously it’s bollocks and that is what makes the comparison offensive but there are people out there who genuinely believe the more extreme conspiracy theories.my community Facebook is full of people rallying against Bill Gates.

You are absolutely right to be concerned about the effects of the Coronavirus Act on the disabled, and indeed the Court of Appeal has recently supported you in relation to the relaxation of duties towards disabled children.

However, I don't think there is anything particularly sinister about the effects of the virus on people with learning disabilities. It's a simple fact that some may have more vulnerability for physical reasons, and some may be more susceptible to infection through a lack of understanding of social distancing, the hygiene requirements tc. I'm not aware that the virus has more effect on disabled women than disabled men - do you have a source for that?

The combination of brexit and Covid has really brought out some deeply nasty people on social media. I've had to cut quite a lot of people off who I had previously thought were decent people.
