Is a 25 min commute too far to travel for 3 hours work each day?

Whats people's thoughts on this? Employee is paid £15 per hour for 15 hours split over 5 days. They are happy with this I think but other employee doing the same hours is being vocal about wanting to do her hours over 4 days because of her commute. The rota and needs of the business won't really allow that. What do yous think of a 25 minute commute?

It's likely the cost of the commute than the time. 5x bus fare a week or 3x bus fare a week for the same wages can make a difference.

@KittenCalledBob

I suspect this is more about them wanting a day off every week than the commute per se.
You’re probably right.

It isn't a long commute. In my previous role, I used to travel for 4.5 hours a day. It's why I left!

I assume they are not being forced to work there? They knew where it was when they applied for the job? They should try and find a new hon closer to home rather than change the hours of the one they already have- it doesn’t suit the business so therefore it’s clearly not a good fit for them.

I understand this - it’s not so much about the actual time of the commute but the proportion of commute time to working time, If you have a half hour commute and you do 15 hours over two days that’s 15 hrs and 2 hrs commuting so 17 hours. If it’s every day, that’s 15 hours but 5 hours commute so 20 hours. 3 extra hours of your time and cost.
I’d want more hours over less days every time.
