Rotting corpse, moaning children and yoga

BigBaublesGalore · 06/12/2020 10:42

I woke up today and decided I would start a new positive routine, healthy eating and yoga (as I'm overweight and my health is suffering) I got up early with ds, sat down in the lounge with my morning coffee and could smell something REALLY FUNKY!

I kept getting whiffs of it but I couldn't put my finger on what it was. Anyway... got the yoga mat out from the back of the sofa, Sat on it and again I could smell this funky smell... now I'm thinking it might be me as I'm in a different room...

Anyway as soon as I start the yoga the kids decide to start a bickering session about whose going to eat all the Pringles later... (because I told them they're not having them for breakfast)

So 3:15 seconds into the yoga I just gave up because I couldn't even hear adrienne telling me to breath calming deep breaths over the children bickering and even when I could the stench of that smell was horrible...

I sniffed the mat some more and yep I finally remember... it's the smell of death! I've experienced that smell before when the cats bought in a mouse and hid it behind my washing basket... Ive traced the smell to the back of the sofa where the mats are stored... the ends of the mat that touch the carpet smell rancid...

I pulled the whole front room out, Xmas tree and all, lifted all the sofas (at least I got a workout) but fuck me there's not a single corpse down there but it stinks!

Not even fabreeze is covering it up Confused

What could it be?

Aibu to eat the whole tub of Pringles in spite

Be really careful of diseases!

WombOfOnesOwn · 06/12/2020 18:21

Can't see the pics and am morbidly curious.

thenightsky · 06/12/2020 18:26

@LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett

It's like the house that Jack built...

This is the rat
That killed the bat
that lay under the yoga mat, nice and flat
That lived in the house that Baubles built

diddl · 06/12/2020 18:27

I can only see the first 4 pics!

pussycatinboots · 06/12/2020 18:29

@IfoundGavin

If you find a range of dead animals in your house , you have rats. If you find a dead rat , then you have even bigger rats...
That's reassuring.🤔
thenightsky · 06/12/2020 18:30

Can't see latest pics on laptop or phone app.

pussycatinboots · 06/12/2020 18:32

Sometimes photos won't post. You could try one or two of the really gross ones again.

justasking111 · 06/12/2020 18:36

Son bought a wreck of a house been empty for years, when we lifted floor boards found lots of skeletons of animals, birds, rats had lived there happily for some time when the house was occupied apparently. Shudders....

Theimpossiblegirl · 06/12/2020 18:40

I want to see the pics but don't want to see the pics.
Schrödinger's rat?

GlowingOrb · 06/12/2020 18:41

I’d get an exterminator out to do a structural review. They can identify all the little spots creatures are getting in. An exterminator can often fix the small ones and then will give you a list of the bigger ones to be talked by A contractor. Helped immensely at our house when we had a mouse problem.

Haffiana · 06/12/2020 18:44

How the fuck is all that wildlife actually getting under your floorboards, OP?

StillWeRise · 06/12/2020 18:48

I have to report that concrete floors will not necessarily save you from this fate. Think- what is UNDER the concrete? Likely a cavity of some sort. We had the smell of death coming from under a concrete floor and there's no levering up floorboards there, so we just had to wait...took weeks...I would recommend lavender oil in a saucer of water. Doesn't cure it but does mask it slighty.

Dopeyduck · 06/12/2020 18:49

Oh wow, that was gripping. What a day you’ve had.

doadeer · 06/12/2020 18:56

Oh my god! This is my nightmare!!!

My mum once had that smell and it was a gigantic rat the size of a badger (or a labrador depending how many wines my mum has had when she tells the story) and they used a coat hanger to pull it out and there was an infestation.

Just too disgusting for words.

How are all these animals under your floor?!

BMW6 · 06/12/2020 18:59

I wonder if there's a broken air brick somewhere and they are getting under the floorboards that way.

tara66 · 06/12/2020 19:04

I had a small something wrapped in foil that fell behind my chest freezer
some time ago and forgot about it. I recently had a swam of large flies indoors and traced their origin to this item - which was rotten but still cover with foil completely - it was probably meat.

MiddleClassMother · 06/12/2020 19:05

Sorry but I'm dying at the grim reaper suggestion from your DD😂
Have you looked under the sofa for holes? I mouse could have climbed in and gotten trapped, before dying.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 06/12/2020 19:05

This was the most evil object I ever had.
He continued smelling for months (and even continued for quite a few weeks after we found and disposed of him...)
When are we getting your photos op?

UsernameChat · 06/12/2020 19:06

OP, I'm sorry you seem to have a pit of death under your floorboards, but this is the most entertaining thread I've ever read on here!

Deathraystare · 06/12/2020 19:10

Have a word with your cats!

movingonup20 · 06/12/2020 19:12

Ick. Bicarbonate of soda is good to put down to soak up the smell, shake n vac might work, washing or dishwasher powder (not liquid) too

Iwasonceabrownie · 06/12/2020 19:13

Grumpyoldperson
That's horrendous 🤢🤢

MrsGrindah · 06/12/2020 19:13

Next you’ll find the old lady who swallowed the fly....
