Cheese on toast..again. How often do you have a cba day?

At the moment I’m a sahm to my toddler. I generally make/cook every meal from scratch, lots and fruit and veg etc. Then maybe simple put stuff in the oven bits like fishfingers or a takeaway at the weekend.
I’ve had 3 days this week of really thinking I can’t be arsed and just having cheese or beans on toast. How often do you feel like this and do most of you cook from scratch or just chuck oven meals in?

Sorry for typos, rushed through.

To be honest when my daughter was young we didn’t do this, I always made a proper dinner, but since she left home I’d say about half the week I can’t be arsed.

Cba78 · 05/12/2020 16:16

@Bluntness100 That’s the thing, I normally do every day aside from a treat day of fishfingers etc, does make me feel guilty

Probably once or twice a week I make an easy dinner. last night for example dinner was pasta and grated cheese. Nobody is going hungry, everyone is happy and healthy.

Sorrytmipic · 05/12/2020 16:22

When I'm have CBA weeks days, I cook the proper meal at lunch time and have toast/sandwiches for tea, so it's easy when I'm tired at the end of the day.

Bluntness100 · 05/12/2020 16:24

I wouldn’t feel guilty, everyone fed no one dead is a thing,,😃

Juniperandrage · 05/12/2020 16:24

I have a lot of CBA days through the winter so I do a lot of batch cooking in the autumn so I can just shove something I've made in the oven on those days

Anniemabel · 05/12/2020 16:25

I literally just read the title and thought, yeah, I can do cheese on toast for dinner! I’ve got horrendous morning sickness and three kids climbing the walls. Sometimes it’s a cheese on toast kind of day!

Thank you for the idea.

flaviaritt · 05/12/2020 16:25

Maybe once a month? We have a takeaway once a fortnight as well. Can’t remember the last time I offered cheese or beans on toast. But she likes those things. It’s fine.

devildeepbluesea · 05/12/2020 16:26

Last night we had Domino's. Tonight we're having leftover dominos 🤣

I'd say I do cook from scratch about 85% of the time. DD is nearly 8 now, it's just us (50/50 with her dad). When she's not here I will regularly just not bother with dinner and graze. Terrible habit, but it doesn't seem worth cooking just for me.

frogswimming · 05/12/2020 16:27

I'd say one weekday night, one weekend night either oven stuff or beans on toast and then a takeaway once a week.

Cba78 · 05/12/2020 16:29

I think because I do it so much during the week, I kind of get to Friday and it’s like 😩
Used to be the opposite way when was just us and I worked full time. I’d make lovely meals at the weekend

Cheese or beans on toast wouldnt fill me up and I wouldnt consider it a good meal for DC (youngest 18 months).

If I have a cba day it would me just some meat/chicken with frozen veg - basically just pop the meat in the air fryer, put the veg on the hob and come back in 20 mins when it's all cooked.

Or else another quickie is Tesco quick cook pasta (which cooks in less than 10 mins) with some lean rashers (cooked in the air fryer) and a bit of cheese.

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/12/2020 16:33

I live on my own now so often, but I do keep my fridge stocked with cheeses, cold meats, salad bits etc so I can eat vaguely decently.
I do have nights where I eat five packets of crisps though because its all I can be bothered with.

Peanut91 · 05/12/2020 16:35

Before getting pregnant with no. 2 I always cooked our meals from scratch. I am currently 9 weeks and suffering from terrible morning sickness so either my DH cooks or we eat a cheat meal. I just can't face cooking

olympicsrock · 05/12/2020 16:36

You lot have high standards. Wine and crisps is a CBa supper for me

Heybeendyingtomeetyou · 05/12/2020 16:38

We ( me & DH) had beans in toast the other evening. A few days ago we had jackets and beans, tonight we are having another jacket rather than a meal. CBA.

Sometimes DH &DS have a meal and I have a sandwich because I can’t be bothered even eating a meal. I batch cook curry, bol, chilli etc so DS always has something proper.

Autumnnightsaredrawingin · 05/12/2020 16:38

My kids are 11 and 8, I would say they have cheese on toast/a toasted sandwich for dinner every couple of weeks, with cucumber on the side to make it look a bit more like a meal! Grin

sittingonacornflake · 05/12/2020 16:41

Oh at least once a week since covid. Sod it. Frankly.

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 05/12/2020 16:44

Not for DS but we have an occasional take away or oven pizza though. I just turned to batch cook and freezer so CBS is bung some spaghetti in and microwave frozen ragu

Cba78 · 05/12/2020 16:45

@Autumnnightsaredrawingin 😂That’s the thing, I usually include cherry tomatoes on it and some fruit afterwards and make sure she’s had a good breakfast and lunch full of all the healthy bits. I’m just finding I’m tired by mid afternoon and winter meals require more effort than summer, when it was lovely big salads etc.

BlenheimOrange · 05/12/2020 16:51

Um, about half the time for DS, and once a week for all of us. Beans on toast, tortellini or other simple pasta, fish fingers, omelette etc. Generally with a side of cucumber sticks. DS (3) is v fussy atm so if we’re having something I know he has doubts about (lentils, pulses, green stuff generally) I want something he’ll eat on the table too but without cooking two meals.

Juniperandrage · 05/12/2020 16:52

Beans on toast is a pretty well balanced meal anyway. Cheese on toast not as much but no harms done if they don't get it everyday

rc22 · 05/12/2020 16:55

I would say cheese or beans on toast followed by fruit was a fairly nutritious meal.
