To ask what to get my baby for christmas

LAgeDeRaisin · 03/12/2020 22:28

My DD will be nearly 10 months by Christmas and I have no idea what to get her.

I know she will have no idea what's going on but I still want to have some things to wrap up- I'm sure she'll enjoy the paper.

What were your baby's favourite toys or books for around that age?! All ideas welcome!

I’d get things for 12-18 months that she’d grow in to.
Top toys for us have been Grapat Nins, Rings and Mates. Wooden puzzles, stacking and sorting toys, Wooden blocks of different shapes and sizes, farm animals, pull along toys, Scuttlebug and a Sand and Water table

Megan2018 · 03/12/2020 22:35

Books-any of the “That’s not my...” ones, we have loads. Hungry caterpillar, Julia Donaldson board books

GrumpyHoonMain · 03/12/2020 22:35

Depends on her development really. At that age I was getting DS 12-18 months things, as he was cruising etc. If she’s not mobile and you only want to get her things she’ll use now then maybe stick to smaller stuff like books and puzzles then buy bigger stuff in the sales later.

NewbieManager · 03/12/2020 22:36

Get something nice to keep as memory of baby’s first Xmas - a quality soft toys, wooden toys etc... for you

Paper bags etc for baby Grin

LAgeDeRaisin · 03/12/2020 22:36

Thank you! Good idea re toys with longevity. She likes her big foam blocks so maybe wooden ones would go down well. :)

I'm the youngest child and my parents knew that I wouldn't understand for my first Christmas but also knew my siblings would wonder why Father Christmas didn't come for me...

So they wrapped up all the stuff I'd need/be bought in the next couple of months anyway (I remember baby toothbrush being mentioned!). I think it's genius. Baby might enjoy unwrapping the stuff, you and any siblings get to see a little pile for them and not feel as though they're being left out, and you don't spend on pointless crap for the sake of it. I'm sure there were some toys too, but not loads and definitely padded out by clothes and toothbrushes and similar.

I bought my three month old a Grimm's rainbow. For the first two years it was a beautiful ornament, but now she likes to play with it.

LAgeDeRaisin · 03/12/2020 22:38

She's pretty mobile- stands and crawls but not quite talking steps

DS loved the That's Not My.... books. There are some nice Christmas ones available.

FoxyTheFox · 03/12/2020 22:39

I got my DC at that age an activity cube, B Zany do a nice zoo themed one. They played the activities and also used it to pull themselves standing and to cruise around the outsides of it.

MummyBearBoo · 03/12/2020 22:40

My daughter was 11 months at her first Xmas we got her a paddling pool and balls so she could have a ball pool in winter and a paddling pool in the summer, we also got her a sit on pony as she was just starting to walk so this helped support her!

This was very popular with mine at this age and for a long while after. I’ve just bought it for my nephew for Christmas, he’s 10 months too.

Check out that brand more generally, they have great stuff.

My other suggestion is Duplo. It’s such a brilliant toy.

LAgeDeRaisin · 03/12/2020 22:41

I'd never heard of the 'That's Not My' book collection. I might get a couple of those.

The very hungry caterpillar though was a firm childhood favourite!

A personalised Christmas book and write a nice message in the front for when she’s older.

EnidMatilda · 03/12/2020 22:43

Activity cube, finger puppets, duplo, wooden stacker, bubble machine, pull along duck, musical instruments.

Fave books: Where's spot, dear zoo, what the ladybird heard, rabbit's nap, each peach pear plum, first word books.

Yellownotblue · 03/12/2020 22:45

DD was the same age at her first Christmas.

She got a small rocking horse, similar to this www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-wooden-rocking-horse/p4823795. She loved it.

Great pictures of her finding it under the tree.

TheKeatingFive · 03/12/2020 22:46

Sandra Boynton books are fabulous for that age. I can still recite Moo Baa Lalala.

Katinkak8 · 03/12/2020 22:47

I would really recommend an aqua doodle. You DD is a bit young at the moment, but it's definitely something that she could play with over the next year. My eldest still likes playing with ours at age 4 and my youngest can play to her heart's content without me worrying about the mess!

rottiemum88 · 03/12/2020 22:47

I'd never heard of the 'That's Not My' book collection. I might get a couple of those.

Beware, they all follow exactly the same format and become a bit soul destroying to read when you're being forced into it for what feels like the millionth time Grin

FrankiesKnuckle · 03/12/2020 22:48

Tomy hide and squeak eggs.
My child played with these endlessly.

Or just wrapping paper, boxes and tinsel. Played with those endlessly at that age too!

MummyBearBoo · 03/12/2020 22:51

And is you want to get soft toys can definitely recommend Jellycat ones you may find as well that they're che at her due to from the Jellycat website rather than Amazon or anywhere -I got both my DD's a bashful bunny each and they're so soft though my eldest is almost 5 and I bought it before she was born so it's not as soft anymore but she loves it and has asked for another one at Xmas in a different colour xx

TheKeatingFive · 03/12/2020 22:52

Tomy hide and squeak eggs.

Yes. I don’t personally get it, but every baby I know loves them.

Also, cheap as chips.

Babyvibe · 03/12/2020 22:56

DS will be 9 months at christmas. So far we have gotten him a teepee tent as he is loving crawling around discovering little places and starting to walk. A big toy box, wooden building blocks, an activity box, some books. Family members and friends all seem to be getting him toys so we've decided to mainly get him some big things instead.

thismeansnothing · 03/12/2020 22:56

My DD was 10month last Xmas. We got her the fisherpruce piggy bank. Still loves it now. We also got some light flashy sensory balls. She loves lights.

SunshineLollipopsRainbow · 03/12/2020 23:04
