Royal Mail lost Special Delivery

I posted my wedding and engagement band three weeks ago to be rhodium plated... they were sent back RM Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm. Two weeks later there's no sign of them, 0 tracking updates & all RM have told me to do is file a claim 😒 (in hindsight should have gone with a local jeweller but I thought RM was safe!) has this happened to anyone else recently? Do you think they'll show up eventually? AIBU to feel pissed off?

OP I'm round the corner from Walmer Bridge and parcels I have returned weeks ago don't seem to have gone anywhere, so I hope it's just a case of the service being overwhelmed.

Keep checking this for an update. Guessing they’ve not arrived or turned up on the tracking still then. Keeping fingers crossed for you that they may still arrive at some point OP.

Still not arrived! No updates. Quite disheartening but still have some hope that there's just a crazy backlog or something. Thank you!

Fingers crossed for you OP, but for anyone else reading in future - never send anything valuable by post if you can help it. You need a courier used to handling valuable items. A friend temped at the the sorting office in run up to xmas and she told me several other workers were slitting open envelopes that looked valuable and stealing the contents. :(

@picklemewalnuts

Off track but, what is rhodium plating for?
Making it white gold.

Hello! Just an update incase anyone stumbled across this! The rings were never found but the RM has sent out a cheque covering the purchase cost of the rings so I guess that's some kind of a resolution! No longer trusting special delivery though

I'm so sorry it never turned up. I had hoped they would find it for you. 💐

I bought something on eBay recently, not a valuable item, and the sender provided a Royal Mail tracking number. The sender said it usually takes 3 to 7 days.

It was posted at 6:30 am on a Friday. When I checked on the following Wednesday it said it had been delivered at 9:40 am on the Saturday. That would be quick at the best of times!

It was small enough to go through the letterbox and I was at home at the time. RM have said 'well we delivered because the tracking number says so'. Nothing I can do really.

gillybean2 · 17/02/2021 10:41

Been checking back every so often hoping for a positive update. Sorry to hear your rings are still missing but glad you got a resolution from RM.

Jackie2022 · 18/02/2021 18:37

Hi OP, sorry to hear what happened. I may be going through something similar as the tracking on my special delivery hasn’t updated either! Did you complain directly to RM to get the cheque?

toomanypasswords · 18/02/2021 19:14

I've given up sending by RM unless I have to. Last summer they delivered a passport, which was sent tracked, to the wrong address. Obviously the tracking showed it as delivered, which it was, just not to the name or the address on the envelope. Then over the last couple of months they have delivered 2 parcels - one signed for - to the right number house but to a street two roads down from me. The signed for one, i
I only retrieved when I went to the sorting office to ask where it had gone (shown as delivered and signed for on the online tracking... again, just not to me / my house), they tracked it down and, to be fair, sent someone to retrieve it and redeliver to the right address, but then did the same thing again! The second time, our very apologetic postlady was given it back by the homeowner and redelivered it. I have little faith now though that I get all my post.

Stuff I sent at Christmas cost twice as much to send by RM than same size parcels did by Hermes and took longer to arrive.

I know they're busy but they've had a year now to get used to the amount of post going through the system, and it should be better than it is. Unfortunately now they're an easy target when anybody wants to explain why things ordered online don't arrive for weeks.

Has anyone seen the article about missing royal mail parcels getting bulk sold on ebay?

Heya! Well because the item was sent to me rather than me being the sender I had to ask the sender to complain and ask for compensation. After nearly 4 months I finally received the money, so definitely worth pursuing. Sorry you're going through the same thing!

I saw this yes! Very concerning. I do feel my rings were probably stolen and auctioned off tbh.
