Royal Mail lost Special Delivery

authenticallyclara · 02/12/2020 17:35

I posted my wedding and engagement band three weeks ago to be rhodium plated... they were sent back RM Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm. Two weeks later there's no sign of them, 0 tracking updates & all RM have told me to do is file a claim 😒 (in hindsight should have gone with a local jeweller but I thought RM was safe!) has this happened to anyone else recently? Do you think they'll show up eventually? AIBU to feel pissed off?
@picklemewalnuts natural white gold is a warm white (slight yellowish tinge) rhodium plating makes it brilliant white. But the rhodium wears off and has to be replated.
Many high end jewellers no longer rhodium plate advising that if you want brilliant white you go for platinum. The warm white of white gold works really well with certain stones like green and yellow sapphires.
I didn't know this! Thanks will look into that (if ever get my rings back lol)

The sender has filed for compensation and had things rings covered up to a value of £1,000 (they're worth just a little over this so not too bad)

Thank goodness for that
There's every chance the rings will have been stolen from the post and turn up on ebay, but at least it seems you're covered

picklemewalnuts · 03/12/2020 13:31

Thank you @Plonque and @Lonecatwithkitten .

My browser is playing up, and I was properly curious!

sqirrelfriends · 03/12/2020 13:36

Probably outing but I used to work for a company that sold high value goods. Items went missing from the post every week, sometimes they turned up and sometimes not. On investigating it seemed that they often made their way to the sorting office but not out. Very suspicious.

I hope you get your rings back.

caringcarer · 03/12/2020 13:52

Did you pay additional insurance for rings?

authenticallyclara · 03/12/2020 14:02

@caringcarer

Did you pay additional insurance for rings?

I did not but the sender insured up to £1,000 I believe

I bet they do. Nothing to do with the fact that platinum is a lot more expensive, I suppose!

timegoesbysoslowly · 03/12/2020 18:12

Good to hear they were insured by sender but still must be more upsetting that the rings have got lost.

Strange that special delivery has gone missing, your paying for a service that should be taken care off, that's the point.

I know post is delayed at moment but special delivery 1pm is still guaranteed to be delivered next day but by 4pm.

I sent something yesterday by SD from midlands to Glasgow and was received today

I think theft must me high at the moment. I had Amazon deliver an iPad the other day and leave it on the doorstep, the driver had driven off by time I got to door! Pre covid at least they put it in a safe place and take a pic but now it's leave in full view.

I surprised criminals aren't following delivery drivers, and nicking stuff left on people doorstops, maybe they are

metellaestinatrio · 03/12/2020 18:42

Parcels are definitely delayed at the moment - I waited 11 days for something that was supposed to be guaranteed 48 hour delivery, and two weeks for a book from Amazon (part of a larger order; the bit sent by courier arrived in a couple of days). Don’t give up hope OP!

LightasaBreeze · 03/12/2020 19:05

DS sent DH a birthday card on Monday 1st class, it hasn't arrived yet, I suspect it has been opened somewhere on route to check for money or gift card.

buttonmoonb4tea · 03/12/2020 19:10

Recently ordered something for my DD birthday. It hasn't turned up and was tracked through RM. They sent another item which id ordered elsewhere which had the tracking number of my Dd's present.

I've requested a refund from the company I ordered from. But yeah things seem to be going missing with RM. It's a shame as I always found them reliable.

Lonecatwithkitten · 03/12/2020 21:19

@KrisAkabusi you have to consider the cost of replating your ring every few years and that the rubbing off of the rhodium wears your ring away faster.
I love the warm white of unplated white gold and all my rings are of unplated white gold.

Platinum is cheaper than 18ct white gold at the moment. Although the price of gold is starting to drop.

Lol no I didn't post them with Royal Mail I used another insured postal service and yes I realise with hindsight this was a stupid idea but they were highly recommend jewellers & I don't have any locally which offer that service... I've deffos already judged myself enough times for making this decision but can't change it now

More to do with that rhondium is about 10x the price of platinum. Grin
Witchend · 03/12/2020 23:02

Obviously taken to be delivered by Postman Pat. He seems to lose most of his parcels last time I saw him.

Guiltypleasures001 · 03/12/2020 23:04

I trade and buy on eBay
Things always get stolen from Jiffy bags, worse around Xmas
Because of the temporary staff so I'm told

Drives me up the wall thieving baskets

Guiltypleasures001 · 03/12/2020 23:06

Tracking info is rarely updated properly either
I send everything tracked, and it still gets stolen

LightasaBreeze · 03/12/2020 23:14

Last year at this time a couple of things I ordered from eBay never arrived, it's probably not the best time to post anything valuable or irreplaceable if you don't need to

middleager · 03/12/2020 23:15

I ordered something from Hotel Chocolat next day delivery on Sunday but its not arrived yet.

I was unable to check with Royal Mail either, the tracking page number just said unable to track, try again tomorrow.

I checked yesterday just after midnight and it said it was at the sorting office - the status hasn't changed yet.

Wish I'd ordered off Amazon now as I pay for Prime.

LightasaBreeze · 03/12/2020 23:34

My Hotel Chocolat parcel last week on 48 hr tracked went to about 5 different sorting offices and took about 5-6 days, it did arrive in one piece though eventually so hopefully it will appear middleager

listsandbudgets · 04/12/2020 06:47

I'm so sick of Royal Mail Ove decided suck uo the extra cost and send family Christmas presents by courier this uear. Too many lost and severely delayed items recently plus we are only getting a delivery a week as it is. Someone posted me a letter first class on 20th November.. no sign of it yet and we had this weeks delivery yesterday.

I feel sorry for people working there butmanagement have had months to get on top of this now. I never though it would get to the stage Id prefer to use Hergest!

listsandbudgets · 04/12/2020 06:47

Hermes

LightasaBreeze · 04/12/2020 07:42

The two Christmas presents I have had to post, I got delivered direct from Amazon, both arrived safely within 2 days ready for the recipient to keep for Christmas. Far easier than getting them delivered to me and then having to post on

DS's birthday present I got delivered direct to him from John Lewis
