Here it is.
Thanks @BruceandNosh for the title.

And still we persist.

I honestly think Scrotus gets some kind of personal thrill in having the 'power of life and death' that ordering these executions gives him.

There isn't a word bad enough to describe it. Abhorrent? Despicable? Sociopathic? None of them are really strong enough.

Sorry, you can't have the death penalty, and the grumble that it can "sometimes be cruel" can you ? You really can't.

As GBS famously* observed: "We're just arguing over the price"

*Possibly apocryphally ...

Isn't there a rumour of a UK judge that used to have to wear two pairs of underpants when he knew he was passing the death sentence, as it caused a "special moment". From the 20th century ?

Roussette · 07/12/2020 16:17

Across I agree. Trump seems to revel in talking about death and violence.
Remember Al Baghdadi and Trump on and on about him 'dying like a dog'.
And then there's the caravans on the border and people smuggling and him banging on about the womens mouths taped up, bound up, tied up, and duct tape everywhere. He had a phase of talking about it incessantly.

I just find it really odd. A psychiatrist would honestly have a field day with him.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 07/12/2020 16:20

Especially since he has avoided any violence to himself most assiduously all his life.

What did I say?!

DD asked "Do they bring their own mattresses and pillows?"
They do now.

Biden may have to wait extra time before entering Trump’s disease-ridden White House next month.
www.rawstory.com/2020/12/biden-may-have-to-wait-extra-time-before-entering-trumps-disease-ridden-white-house-next-month/

The reason for this, as USA Today reports, is that it is not clear what level of cleaning will need to be performed inside the building, which for months has served as a petri dish in which multiple Trump administration officials — including President Donald Trump himself — have been infected with the novel coronavirus.

The threat posed by COVID-19 in the West Wing is only being amplified by the fact that the White House is defying its own coronavirus task force’s public safety recommendations by holding massive Christmas parties this month.

“Hundreds of people are expected at the White House for a series of holiday parties and receptions this month, despite an alarming spike in COVID-19 cases across the country,” reports USA Today. “No mention was made of whether the White House will undergo a deep cleaning when those events are over, roughly a month before Inauguration Day.”

To get an idea of just how long a deep clean of the White House would take, the newspaper spoke with Sheldon Yellen, the CEO of property restoration company Belfor Property Restoration, which has done work during the pandemic in ensuring that buildings are free of disease.

“Workers wearing respirators, gloves, protective suits and other equipment hand-wipe and clean the contaminated area with a professional-grade botanical disinfectant that can kill 99.9% of viruses,” writes USA Today, reporting Yellen’s description of his company’s work. “All surfaces are then sprayed with antimicrobial solutions that prevent any virus from growing for up to 90 days. Industrial hygienists conduct tests to make sure each area has been properly sprayed, and the work is then certified as complete.”

“It’s a very laborious process,” Yellen tells the publication.

I wonder if there is any truth in the rumour that Biden has offered Trump a pardon if Trump finishes the job of wrecking the GOP before he leaves ?

DGRossetti · 07/12/2020 18:56

Alternatively, what Trump has been promised for wrecking the GOP.

I think it's more likely that Scrotus' current strategy is creating havoc and destruction in the hopes that Biden will promise him a pardon to get him to stop.

Kind of like a toddler who pitches a toy-throwing tantrum because he thinks he'll get biscuits or sweets to get him to stop.

Oh, tin foil hats on, everyone?

DH says he thinks Rudy doesn't have it at all. He says he thinks they've got him 'locked up in the WH basement' because of his bizarre and increasingly erratic behaviour in dealing with the lawsuits. I think he's saying it tongue in cheek.

We predicted similar on the previous thread, gets the tin foil out Grin

Tomorrow, 8 Dec, is a very important date. It's the federal 'Safe Harbour' Date.

"That brings us to the safe harbor date. Under federal law, any state's selection of its presidential electors that has been finalized six days before the formal Electoral College voting date (this year, December 14) is final and presumptively cannot be challenged in court or in Congress. In other words: come December 8, the determinations of the states cannot effectively be challenged by Trump or by his "elite strike force" legal team led by Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani. The states are not required to finalize their electoral votes by the safe harbor date but if they do, those determinations are protected by federal law."

Both Pfizer and Moderna, the two major drug manufacturers likely to receive emergency authorizations for a Covid-19 vaccine in the coming weeks, have rejected invitations from President Trump to appear at a White House “Vaccine Summit” on Tuesday, according to two sources familiar with the event’s planning

The vaccine manufacturers’ absences will be conspicuous at a “Vaccine Summit,” an event that drug industry figures and one Trump administration official largely viewed as a public relations stunt

I wasn't suggesting that Trump was really smashing the GOP to get pardon from Biden.

I was suggesting it be suggested to GOP headbangers ....

TheNorthWestPawsage · 07/12/2020 22:25

It’s time to consider that there is, in fact, a politician willing to inflict more pain and suffering on Americans than President Donald Trump. And his name is Addison Mitchell McConnell Jr.

'75 versions of the exact same conversation every day ...'

The aunt of a friend of mine did that, often with the same person over and over again. She later turned out to have Alzheimer's. But unlike Trump, the same things she said over and over were pleasant ones, about things such as liking the view from a window or having heard a lovely story on the radio.

AcrossthePond55 · 08/12/2020 17:01

Congrats to the UK for being the first to roll out the vaccine. I bet Scrotus is pitching a hissy because the US wasn't 'first' so he could claim credit for it. 🙄

NPR (radio) says that all states should meet today's 'Safe Harbour' deadline. It sounds as if any lawsuits currently in the pipeline will still be heard, but no lawsuits filed from today on will be heard for any state meeting Safe Harbour.

maggiethecat · 08/12/2020 17:03

So are we at safe harbour or is that end of today?

Ok, so no new challenges.
