Nonsense from a government minister.

Surely a simple test is that you spend more on food than alcohol (or any other drink)?

Who eats a meat pie with their hands?

Everyone in Wigan for a start Grin

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/11/2020 15:45
@Derelictwreck how small is the burger you eat with one hand? I even need two hands to comfortably eat a McDonald’s 99p burger and they’re not that big....
Really? I can shove a filet-o-fish in one-handed.

epythymy · 30/11/2020 15:46

If 👏🏻 you 👏🏻 don't 👏🏻 like 👏🏻 it 👏🏻 don't 👏🏻 go!

Nobody is forcing you.

LoveandHateWhatABeautifulComb · 30/11/2020 15:47

Something you can hold in one hand is a snack. If you need a plate to hold all the bits together, it's a meal

Nonsense. I can eat a burrito the size of a swaddled infant with one hand, no plate necessary.

longestlurkerever · 30/11/2020 15:56

Sorry, wrong thread!

timeforanewstart · 30/11/2020 15:56

Will give DH a scotch egg tonight for tea and let you know if he thinks its substantial

I thought they ate them in a barm?

The "Artisan Scotch Egg" thread from Classics. 😂

LaurieFairyCake · 30/11/2020 16:11

Yes it's substantial

It's about 600 calories for a decent one

More than many restaurant dishes Confused

OneTC · 30/11/2020 16:17

Who eats a meat pie with their hands?

Strayans

OneTC · 30/11/2020 16:20

I even need two hands to comfortably eat a McDonald’s 99p burger and they’re not that big...

That's just poor technique

lurker101 · 30/11/2020 16:33

@MrsTerryPratchett @onetc sounds like I need more practice... must order Bleecker Burgers for dinner to practice 😂

Seriouslymole · 30/11/2020 16:37

Oh my word -this whole subject on the news website has made me long for a scotch egg - and I'm a vegetarian. This is a DISASTER.

CorianderQueen · 30/11/2020 16:40

Depends - proper scotch egg with salad is about 350 calories. That's a normal lunch amount.

EBearhug · 30/11/2020 16:40

Can you get Scotch eggs which have a Glamorgan sausage coat? That would be vegetarian (though definitely not vegan.)

CorianderQueen · 30/11/2020 16:44

Quorn picnic eggs. Not the same, but not bad.
Madcats · 30/11/2020 16:45

Scotch eggs seem to have become quite a "thing" in the swankier butchers and gastropubs round here. Can't stand eggs, myself, but the family tell me these scotch eggs are quite filling (and about twice the size of the supermarket basic ones).

I also don't think it is that unusual for pensioners to pop in for a "starter" and a drink in the rural pubs at lunchtime.

Government communication is hopeless. Given their track record you think they'd get staff/diverse focus group to help create 4 pages of Q&A that the ministers promise to read before opening their mouths on radio shows and TVs.

snowstorm2012 · 30/11/2020 16:48

@BigSandyBalls2015

What!! on average around here a main course in a pub is about £14-16, and a bottle of house wine is more than that!
Just one glass of decent wine in pubs near me costs £12 approx, ridiculous!
amicissimma · 30/11/2020 16:54

Imagine being a magistrate if anywhere is prosecuted!

PullTheBricksDown · 30/11/2020 16:58

I've seen this government come up with a right load of flannel in the last year but honestly. A Scotch egg is not a substantial meal! It hardly qualifies as a light meal with salad on the side. I have seen the above presented as a 'starter' on some menus.

Quaagars · 30/11/2020 16:59

@IrkedEssex

Bloody hell. On your test I'd be having to buy caviar

Grin

That made me actual lol, I'd be the same Grin

As for the OP, I was going to say you what, it's a snack, don't be daft!
Then read the article and see it's a 'Rona thing and in that case YABU and it is a substantial meal because let's face it, it's pretty stodgy and filling and perfect stomach lining if out for drinks lol

chomalungma · 30/11/2020 17:02

Scotch egg and HP sauce.

Great

But then - what would they say is not a substantial meal?

Seriouslymole · 30/11/2020 17:05

@CorianderQueen - I shall investigate. Thank you for the tip Smile

hopelessbusiness · 30/11/2020 17:05

I'd have thought on Mumsnet it's a 'huge, I couldn't possibly eat all that, I had a chickpea on Tuesday' type meal????

sonjadog · 30/11/2020 17:05

It´s been years since I last had a scotch egg. Got a hankering for one now.
