Is anyone avoiding going places they don’t need to go before Xmas incase of having to isolate over Xmas?

Even fun stuff?

Kind off but I cannot get rid of the risk totally as my son is at school still

Creepertime · 30/11/2020 10:17

The only thing we have planned is a day out where we will also see Father Christmas. Hopefully we’ll meet in laws for a walk in the countryside too to exchange gifts

Many thanks

We're in tier 3. There's nothing open. Nowhere we can go that we need to give our details, so no chance of being contacted by track and trace. Winning! Grin

user159 · 30/11/2020 10:26

Yes. DH and I had this conversation last night. DD is at nursery so is our main risk but we are both limiting our trips out shopping etc and not going to go to restaurants/cinema even though we could in our tier. I want to minimise our risk factors as much as possible.

LegoPandemic · 30/11/2020 10:41

We are doing things this weekend and next but not after that.

Simplyunacceptable · 30/11/2020 10:43

We don’t have anything wild planned anyway. We’re visiting Whitby for the day but it will all be outdoors and we have a couple of other Christmas walks but again, outdoors with little to no close contact. We’re not allowed to see family.

My DC are at school though so that is the main concern, my eldest has just finished a 2 week isolation period due to a case in his class.

No. I have been avoiding going places I don't need to go in order to minimise my risk of catching covid. Christmas is no different imo.

RuggerHug · 30/11/2020 10:56

Not in UK but that's how we've been operating since March. Food shop, hospital appointments, visits to parents to drop off, work that can't be done from home and that's it.

BiddyPop · 30/11/2020 10:58

We are continuing our normal routines of the past few months here. Even when lockdown finishes tomorrow, we are still at level 3 as we have been since September - not allowed travel outside our county, only takeaway food no sitting in, no visiting houses, small groups outdoors, only individual training at gyms (no classes) etc.

DH and I had already discussed that, even if restaurants etc opened up, we weren't going out to them before Christmas. We are not staying overnight when (if!) we manage to visit our families over the holidays (2.5 hours drive each way - so long day but doable). We are not doing anything like our usual concerts, meeting up with friends etc in the run up to or over the festive season - if numbers drop significantly, we might meet a few friends or neighbours outdoors over the Christmas break. (And our neighbourhood is normally very sociable - with a number of BBQs and parties over the year, and gatherings for a glass of wine at the drop of a hat - we've had 2 socially distanced beers on the green (for about an hour each) over the summer when we were allowed, and that has been it all year!).

Thankyou

Nope. I need a couple of padded envelopes and some stamps so tomorrow I'll probably pop into town for them and while I'm there I'll take DD to the playground. We'll probably pop in our favourite cafe to get a takeaway coffee and a babychinno. Important to me to try and keep these places going.

WeCanFlyHigher · 30/11/2020 15:44

We’re not really going anywhere anyway as I’m trying my absolute best to keep my children in school and don’t want to risk us having to isolate.
But as we’re tier 3 it won’t matter if we have to isolate over Christmas anyway, as nothing is open.

Christmastime4 · 30/11/2020 16:02

There’s are things open Smile

I teach in a primary school, so no masks and little chance of keeping 2m away due to class size and the fact that children really don’t get it. DH teaches in a school of 2000 teens. DS is in a bubble of 280.
We don’t do anything beyond essential shopping, but it seems a bit pointless sometimes.

Fluffybutter · 30/11/2020 16:46

No , we’ve got a few things planned and just follow the guidelines .
Won’t be cancelling anything .

PotteringAlong · 30/11/2020 16:47

I’m a secondary teacher in tier 3. My life veers from one extreme to the other!

Ragwort · 30/11/2020 16:51

No, am not avoiding anything, there is so little open that I have to make an effort to actually find anywhere to go to Grin. My life hasn't changed that much since the first lockdown, I do my volunteering, support my elderly DPs, go shopping and go for walks. I work in retail so will be back to work this week after my second stint on furlough.

millymollymoomoo · 30/11/2020 16:51

No

Letseatgrandma · 30/11/2020 16:52

I’m going nowhere except unloading the food shop from the delivery person and to work.

Work appears to have far more covid cases than anywhere else around here, but I can’t actually do much to avoid that.

papaelf · 30/11/2020 17:31

@DappledThings

Important to me to try and keep these places going.

It's important to me too, not so much as my life and that of my family though.

Legoandloldolls · 30/11/2020 17:41

No I don't think.i will. Just because I dont need to. If my friends want to meet up I will. But I'm purely just not feeling it this year.

I cant stay safe anyway, 4 kids, Dh works in school. So staying in to purely stay safe would be pointless. I just have a weird feeling there might be another lock down of sorts in January and I cant get excited for just a few weeks of cramming in normality. I did in summer but meh, cant feel enthusiastic right now

burnoutbabe · 30/11/2020 17:51

yes

At xmas i will go and visit my parents (in 70s) so now we come out of lockdown, I won't rush to do more risky stuff - I'll go to food shops and into other shops but I won't be eating with my other half in a restaurant on a busy evening.
Nor doing any long trips on public transport if I can avoid it (so i will visit my Uni campus, involving cross london tubes, post xmas). Meet a friend for a coffee outside after xmas.

Ok, well you do you. No need for anyone to be sanctimonious about it

Bluewavescrashing · 30/11/2020 18:36

Not intentionally as such, but I'm a teacher and so exhausted at the weekend that I just receive the tesco delivery, clean the house, catch up on laundry, sleep, play with DCs and take them for a walk. No energy for anything else.
