As diabetic biscuits? I can find low sugar ones, but don't know if these would be ok? Anybody know of any that are suitable please?

Even if they are sugar free the flour is also a type of carbohydrate, its probably best to choose a gift that's not food.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 29/11/2020 18:40

i bought sugar free chocolate biscuits in Morrisons a week or so ago.
Truly foul.

RedDiamond · 29/11/2020 18:41

If you Google "biscuits for diabetics" quite a few sites come up. Here is one Not On The High Street and the prices do not look bad!

IntoP20 · 29/11/2020 18:41

There are, but they’re hideous

RedDiamond · 29/11/2020 18:50

Oh no!!! Nothing worse than a bad biscuit!!!

Maybe go for chocolates?

Hailtomyteeth · 29/11/2020 18:51

Don't buy a diabetic anything sweet or carby. Or alcoholic. Buy slippers (we need to protect our feet) or nice creams we can rub on our skin to keep it flexible.

I saw these, I literally only want one packet, Its to add in a hamper with some diabetic jam, Unless anyone has any other ideas what I can put with the jam?

Supple? Flexible doesn't seem like the right word. So it doesn't dry and split...

Hailtomyteeth · 29/11/2020 18:53

'Diabetic' products aren't helpful. Eat the jam, it's kinder to the diabetic.

SimonJT · 29/11/2020 18:53

You can, but be warned they can cause repeated trips to the loo.

You’re better eating fewer standard biscuits. I’m type one, I can eat three oreos in a sitting.

If this is a gift, just don’t, receiving a delicious looking food gift you can’t eat is extremely frustrating.

SqueakyDogToy · 29/11/2020 18:55

They have asked for the diabetic jam, I thought just giving them a jar of jam was a bit naff so wanted to make it more of a gift.

B&M sell Gullon sugar free biscuits. Wafers, digestives, cookies and Marie biscuits for £1 per pack.

You are of course assuming that all diabetes is caused by obesity here. Leave off.
Defiantly41 · 29/11/2020 18:59

Another diabetic saying please don't! 85% cocoa chocolate, some lovely roasted nuts & seeds, some artisan cheese ... all good. Anything labelled 'diabetic' is a) usually tasteless and b) not actually low carb when comparedto non diabetic products (it's carb that matters, not sugar)

Hailtomyteeth · 29/11/2020 19:01

Never crossed my mind. Diabetes is irregulated sugar. Giving people sugar gifts is barking.

SimonJT · 29/11/2020 19:01

‘Diabetic’ jam is around 59% carb, how on earth is that diabetes friendly?!

Defiantly41 · 29/11/2020 19:02

@Wheresmykimchi I'm type 1. All my comments above about carb apply equally to all diabetics, for whom controlling their blood sugar levels by understanding the impact of carbs on their levels is key to good health in the longer term, regardless of their BMI

SqueakyDogToy · 29/11/2020 19:06

I didn't want to start a debate, Just looking for advice.

So, A no no for biscuits, got it. Any other ideas that would be a welcoming treat for a diabetic? (That goes with jam? )

Cheese?

Snowpatrolling · 29/11/2020 19:11

The Lindt 85% coco chocolate or dark bournville chocolate is ok for diabetics in moderation.
I buy this for my nan and 1 bar lasts her 2 weeks!

Hailtomyteeth · 29/11/2020 19:27

@SimonJT

Cheese? A matchbox sized portion!

LangClegsInSpace · 29/11/2020 19:30

Cheese is fine, it's very low carb.

Apologies for my assumptions.

But I think it's a shame that diabetics cannot be gifted food whatsoever ?

LongPauseNoAnswer · 29/11/2020 19:32

Sugar free doesn’t mean low carb unfortunately. It’s almost criminal the amount of carbs in “diabetic” foods.

alittlebitofbreadandnocheese · 29/11/2020 19:44

I am a type 1 diabetic and have always been told to eat 'normal' food and just incorporate it into my diet! I hated and I mean HATED people buying me diabetic food, it made me feel different and it is unnecessary
