As diabetic biscuits? I can find low sugar ones, but don't know if these would be ok? Anybody know of any that are suitable please?

Guys the diabetic person in question has obviously requested diabetic jam so I don't think telling op not to gift that is helping anybody.

copperoliver · 29/11/2020 19:49

I think boots has some stuff. X

SqueakyDogToy · 29/11/2020 19:58

They have asked me to get them Diabetic Jam, (told me which brand) I understand it doesn't suit everyone, I also understand that "normal" biscuits are full of crap and not good for anyone, let alone a diabetic. I was asking if anyone had any tips for what I could give along with the jam. Maybe a wafer instead of a biscuit? Or a plain rice cake? Would any of these be any good? (Tasty or not)

@alittlebitofbreadandnocheese

I am a type 1 diabetic and have always been told to eat 'normal' food and just incorporate it into my diet! I hated and I mean HATED people buying me diabetic food, it made me feel different and it is unnecessary
But that’s like telling a peanut allergy sufferer to incorporate peanuts into their diet as long as they have an epi pen.

I understand not wanting to be different but every diabetic, type 1 and type 2 should be educated on avoiding wholly unnecessary carbs.

SebastianTheCrab · 29/11/2020 20:24

Get some scones (They're carb-y but not as in your face as biscuits) and Devonshire cream, which is carb-free, and some posh teabags. And gift it as a cream tea.

Alternatively if you can bake you could actually make your own scones and leave out the sugar. They'll come out OK because scones aren't supposed to be really sweet anyway.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/11/2020 20:29

It can be ok. My dad was t1. He had low sugar jams and other things but had them in small amount. Like 1 piece of baklava. Not 3.
It's a treat not every day thing.

I would covertly find out what biscuits the giftee likes if I were you.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/11/2020 20:31

No it's not.Confused 1 biscuit won't kill a diabetic. Won't even make them sick. One peanut however can kill the person with allergies. Not even a whole peanut

SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/11/2020 20:33

Just make sure you don't get Chocolate for diabetics. That was RANK

1Morewineplease · 29/11/2020 20:36

My husband rates Maryland chocolate cookie sugar free biscuits.
Morrison's has a small range of sugar free biscuits too. Not bad.

I thought this too, I have looked online and couldn't find any.

Thanks though

No it's not! People with diabetes have to eat carbs and I often have a can of coke if my blood glucose drops. It won't kill me and actually it could save my life! It's about balance and living as near normal life as possible. I eat healthy everyday, but if I want a biscuit I want it to be a biscuit not something passing itself off as one.

Wheresmykimchi · 29/11/2020 22:06

@LongPauseNoAnswer not comparable at all.

Stop derailing- OP has said thar she has been asked for it and it's not your place.to decide that they shouldn't have it.

Gottheteeshirtandlostit · 29/11/2020 22:13

Peanut butter? That's pretty low carb. Oatcakes? A bottle of gin or whisky with some sugar free mixers? (Miniatures if you want to be abstemious?). Smoked salmon?

SebastianTheCrab · 29/11/2020 22:37

@LongPauseNoAnswer Please don't make such stupid analogies. It's clear you don't know anything about diabetes.

I eat chocolate and biscuits and crisps and basically all carbs all the time. As long as I give enough insulin to cover it it's fine.

Hahahaha sure. I know nothing!

Myshitisreal · 30/11/2020 04:28

Go to boots website and type in "no added sugar" in the search box. They have shortbread and chocolate but you can't order either online. I spotted reduced shortbread the other day in my local. Not sure if it fits with what you want but you can at least view the range of products

lyralalala · 30/11/2020 04:30

That's a stupid comparison

Myshitisreal · 30/11/2020 04:32

You could look at a small sourdough bread purchase if you have an artisan bakery. I make it and it shouldn't have added sugar unless it's enriched. They can always freeze in slices so total portion control

SchrodingersImmigrant · 30/11/2020 08:23

You laugh but the fact that you are trying to act like you know something, then give this comparison is actually concerning. This is a problem with internet. Too many people pretending to know stuff and sometimes, especial around health, these can be dangerous.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 30/11/2020 08:24

Ffs. Sorry for typoes. I don't know what happened lately🙄

This is a nice idea. And not just because I love sourdough 😁.
LangClegsInSpace · 30/11/2020 08:26

There are different types of diabetes. If you're a diet controlled type 2 diabetic then you absolutely can't eat 'basically all carbs all the time'.

If I were you OP I'd just ask your friend/relative what they'd like to go with the jam.

cantmovewont · 30/11/2020 08:27

My son is Type 1.

There's a diabetic jam which doesn't have substitutes - just less sugar - it's called Stute.

Also for biscuits, I buy malted biscuits because they are quite low in carbs and sugar. I don't really go for the diabetic products. Besides we are taught (by the professionals) to let them eat what they want and dose with insulin accordingly. For Type 1s (in my experience) it's all about moderation rather than abstinence.

If this is any help, the guidance (for us) is around 20g of carbs for snacks - info is usually on the back of the product:

Yorkshirepudding1987 · 30/11/2020 08:37

I found i tolerated Nairns dark chocolate oat biscuits and they were quite nice.

I did have gestational diabetes though and think its quite different to T1 or T2 so my advice might actually be rubbish.

SqueakyDogToy · 30/11/2020 09:54

Thanks everyone for the helpful advice. I think I might go down the sourdough route. Grin
