About vomiting in public

If you are unwell and need to be sick and this comes on you quite suddenly, what’s the equitette? Is there one?

It seems really horrible to leave a puddle of vomit on a road or car park but what else can you do, realistically?

Ideally you’d aim for a drain first. I’ve seen lasses doing this in town on nights out

Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor · 29/11/2020 10:26

Definitely try and get to some bushes or a drain or something. However I don't really think you can do anything to clear it up.

PizzaForOne · 29/11/2020 10:28

Yep, try to aim for a drain, road, bush, bag etc preferably but otherwise not much to be done.

Itsnotalwaysme · 29/11/2020 10:28

Agree with other posts.

It isn't pleasant but it can't be helped unlike people spitting in the street

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 29/11/2020 10:29

The place least likely for it to be stood in.

Preferably not at/over a passerby...

Haffiana · 29/11/2020 10:30

I wouldn't think about fucking etiquette, I would be too busy being sick.

Is this your anxiety or something?

Thesearmsofmine · 29/11/2020 10:31

Aim for the gutter/bushes if possible. Carry water so you can swill it a bit.

I was sick a lot when pregnant with ds2, I used to carry a sick bag in my handbag.

MummmyDayCareNameChangeAGAIN · 29/11/2020 10:32

Always take a plastic bag with you. That's what I do. For throwing up in cars anyway!

enjoyingscience · 29/11/2020 10:32

A very drunk friend one managed to throw up very neatly in a bin. I was very proud of her.

I threw up in a hedge once thanks to morning sickness, but the general gist was to keep it off the pavement.

Itsokthanks · 29/11/2020 10:33

I used to carry a plastic bag around with me when I was pregnant. If you're unwell and know you're likely to be sick I guess you'd be staying at home?

NewlyGranny · 29/11/2020 10:34

If you are a person who never vomits, the symptoms can go unrecognised. DD2 was at work one Monday morning at the photocopier with a queue of teachers behind her when she suddenly felt faint and ghastly, grabbed the machine for support and vommed over it. 🤦🏼‍♀️

It was the sole photocopier in the place. They didn't even replace it, just had it cleaned...

CircleofWillis · 29/11/2020 10:34

I threw up on a moving underground escalator once. I think it was at Euston station. I still shudder when I remember the look on the attendent's face as he watched the pool of vomit reach the top of the escalator before he could hit the emergency stop button.

NewlyGranny · 29/11/2020 10:36

If you're anxious, carry one of those airsick/seasick bags in your handbag for emergencies. It will give you peace of mind.

PinGwyn · 29/11/2020 10:39

I was stuck throughout my second pregnancy and was caught short a few times - aimed for grass if there wasn't a bin or drain nearby.

One particular episode I stated to get sudden bouts of travel sickness on my bus work commute and ended up puking in an Asda bag before sauntering off as though nothing had happened.

I walked to work after that 😁

TillyTopper · 29/11/2020 10:39

I think it's helpful to:
Aim for the gutter or a drain;
Failing that a flower bed/where people don't walk
Turn your back on people to face away from them
Kneel down so you don't splash everything.
Keep your hair back
You could keep a plastic bag in your handbag, that way you can do it quite "neatly"

CandyLeBonBon · 29/11/2020 10:42

I had this when I was pregnant with my first and had to dive into a bush! Blush

40weekswithno2 · 29/11/2020 10:43

If possible then obviously in a gutter or bush is best but if it comes on very suddenly there's not much you can do

Allthequalitystreet · 29/11/2020 10:44

My niece once vomited on the pavement, completely out of the blue. I had a bottle of water in the car and sluiced the worst of it into the gutter. I try to carry water with me since then!

Oh my god! I can imagine his face.
FamilyOfAliens · 29/11/2020 10:49

I hope people saying you should aim for a bush or hedge don’t mean one in someone’s garden.

MawkishHawk · 29/11/2020 10:51

Someone I know went to vomit over a wall next to the pavement, there was a drop the other side, she thought, into the canal. She forgot about the towpath, and there was a bench right there, with a nice chap sitting on it 🤦🏻‍♀️

BecomeStronger · 29/11/2020 10:51

I once ruined a very nice handbag to avoid leaving a mess in the street.

Mamascoven · 29/11/2020 10:52

Etiquette is all well and good until you are pregnant and have HG.

Pumkinseed · 29/11/2020 10:53

you just try to find a corner to puke in or a bush if available. If not, you let go at the pavement. It's not that one can hold it in.

I suffered from severe pregnancy sickness with both DC and had a long bus commute to work. I have to leave earlier to get on and off a few times each day to allow for vomitting. I tried to get off for a puke at stops with some bushes but ultimately, nothing you can do.

I never considered a puke etiquette Grin

Bluetrews25 · 29/11/2020 10:55

MawkishHawk
fnarr. I hate it when that happens!
