Reported Covid positive family for not isolating. AIBU?

A family in the area I live in have all tested positive for Covid. The mother has been quite open about this on social media. One of the teenagers has been out and about despite being positive.

The mother has let this slip on social media. She has been roundly attacked, but has built a web of lies to try to defend herself.

I have reported them. I suspect others have too. although none of us have admitted this to each other. Am I unreasonable?

Ok, first of all this is in no way a good thing OP. However I have to ask - Does she (the Mother) work? And if so in what industry? I ask because very very sadly, if she is in a lowly paid job, and working in a certain type of industry she may well be screwed money wise if she doesn't work. (By that I mean, either unpaid leave or 14 days SSP - Shag all in other words). I am horrendously aware how hideous this is.. But sadly a fact. Sad Angry
This 100 times over

@HelloitsmeMargaret yes I did. NHS: If your family member is diagnosed with Covid 19, your family must self isolate for a minimum of 2 weeks.
NHS staff member: Nope, off for a family toddle round busy area where lots of people are very close whilst not wearing a mask.
Heres the thing-I wasn't the only one to report.

tortoiseshell1985 · 28/11/2020 22:40

@yawnsvillex

What happened when you reported them? Did the police turn up? Helicopters? Boris himself?
They send a Whittycopter apparently

@Undercovermuvver

You do know that having cancer or any other illness that causes the same risk ( think people forget the multiple other illnesses ) doesn’t actually mean boom ( quite rude ) your gone is you catch anything right ?

Whattheactual20201 · 28/11/2020 22:45

@Undercovermuvver yes vulnerable people are at more risk of dying if many things something them and their families have to live with and that worry daily.
However this isn’t about that. This is about if we have an over whelmed NHS there won’t be enough recourses to even safe people of many things they might of survived anyway.
Not all people on the CEV list are dying anyway.

CrocodilesCry Since you've already descended into name calling, then I will call you what you are:

An aggressive, brainwashed, mindless authoritarian who clearly hasn't done their own research.

MadameBlobby · 28/11/2020 22:53

I’ve got a teenager, the “you can’t control them without locking them up” is just an excuse for piss poor parenting.

Whattheactual20201 · 28/11/2020 22:55

@MadameBlobby 100 percent I have a teenager and the first lockdown he wasn’t allowed anywhere due to his little sister.

Isthatitnow · 28/11/2020 22:57

Maybe they have a family to provide for

We all have families to provide for. Some of us are doing frontline jobs whilst all these positive people are out and about after testing positive. What about my family that needs providing for? How will that work whilst I have covid, long covid, am in hospital or dead?

BBCONEANDTWO · 28/11/2020 22:57

@SunflowerButterfly

Considering the tests are 93% inaccurate, as admitted even by Boris himself, and as recently confirmed by a court in Portugal, then YABU. Stop snitching on people and get on with your life. The Stasi paid people to do this, it's pretty depressing in the UK in 2020 the Stasi would find an army of people happy to snitch for them. All for a virus with a 99.8% survival rate too. Utter madness.
I missed that the tests were 93% inaccurate???? If that's true (can you provide proof?) what the heck is the actual point in testing - it's worthless if it's true.

I'm gobsmacked.

YuletidePizza · 28/11/2020 23:01

Yabu I think you should keep out of it and stay off social media too.

SquirtleSquad · 28/11/2020 23:01

I found this online (see attached screenshot)

No YANBU it disgusts me how selfish people are.... yes its rare that people die from covid but it happens and spreads like wildfire! Its not hard to stay in for 2 weeks to potentially safe a life/lives is it 😠

Isthatitnow · 28/11/2020 23:04

People who are already unhealthy are dying, just as a person with cancer who catches flu.....boom you are gone. Not saying this for the conspirators but this what what I was told by the radiographers and nurses

Yeah, so that’s OK then? How about people with type 1 diabetes? Average age of diagnosis is between the age of 8 and 12. The average age of someone dying of covid with type 1 (and therefore by your definition ‘unhealthy’) in in the early 70s. In other words, people with type 1 are able to live long, productive lives just like anyone else. I am sure my teenager with type 1 will be heartened by your message. Not.

Am i wrong when I say that if you are off sick from work with covid then you get full pay from work until you are negative??? I thought you were... or am i wrong, have they changed this?.. Genuine question ...

tikha · 28/11/2020 23:09

Well done for reporting them. They could literally be killing people by going around and spewing the virus.

I'm disappointed at the posters who think YABU and should mind your own business.

It is everyone's business in this case. It isn't just the fact that someone might become very ill or die, but the disruption it causes.

If they pass the virus to a responsible person who might be a key worker or a pupil it means that loads of people have to isolate.

These ignorant posters don't seem to be able to see the bigger picture.

No, it's just ssp isnt it unless your employment contract stipulates a sick pay policy? I get 15 full pay sick days once that's exceeded its ssp

Poppystars · 28/11/2020 23:18

We all have to provide for our families. If a child goes to school positive, or awaiting a result, or meets friends and a class is closed for up to 14 days, some parents will have to use precious annual leave or take unpaid leave each time. Teachers and nhs staff are parents too, if they are not at work it affects others.

CrocodilesCry Since you've already descended into name calling, then I will call you what you are:

Hilarious. You have no idea of my background. I've done my research. You're just a fearmongering, tin foil hat wearing dope.
SunflowerButterfly · 28/11/2020 23:25

FredtheFerret Another name caller, how original. Ok then, you're a horrible person. I never said Covid couldn't be bad for some people, I know that it can, but I don't agree with turning society into an inhumane totalitarian dystopia Stalin and the Stasi would be proud of.

SunflowerButterfly · 28/11/2020 23:27

CrocodilesCry nice carefully crafted dig, you're getting creative, well done. Did you do your research using the BBC by any chance.
