That a work Zoom Christmas party is a really hard thing to organise!

It is 2 hrs during the day, so I can't fall back on a booze theme. Team of 15 and, yes I can do a quiz, but we can we do a quiz for 2 hours?! AIBU that this is a pretty hard ask? What's everyone else doing for their virual Christmas parties - though I'm not even calling it that as I'm worried it will be even shitter if I do!

I genuinely think people have suffered enough this year.

AnnabelC · 28/11/2020 22:06

There is an emoji game, where you pick a card. I suppose everyone would need to get the game. It’s 6.99. You pull the emoji face on the card you pick and others have to guess which emoji. Just a thought. Might not work.

vanillandhoney · 28/11/2020 22:07

@TheKeatingFive

No need to inflict it on everyone else.

I doubt it’s compulsory

I imagine it will be as it's during working hours.
LoafEater · 28/11/2020 22:08

You keep saying it’s happening even though almost everyone is telling you it’s a terrible idea. Why does it HAVE to?

Do an anonymous poll and ask your staff if they want it or would prefer the afternoon off. Personally I’d rather stick pins in my eyes.

justicedanceson · 28/11/2020 22:09

Do you have a budget? Things delivered to people’s homes can be fun. So wine tasting or something non alcoholic of a similar nature! I did a party party by zoom and it worked well as we all had the same stuff and could talk about it.
Secret Santa where people open presents on the zoom and guess who it’s from?

cardibach · 28/11/2020 22:09

The vast majority of these suggestions would have me getting my coat and leaving if they happened at an actual party. Online they would be worse.
I like socialising with my work mates. Zoom isn’t socialising. It’s artificial and awkward and exposing. Whoever says this is happening needs to be firmly sat down and have it explained clearly what an utterly shit (and probably power mad) idea it is.

dementedma · 28/11/2020 22:10

God no. But we did a bake off with Poppy themed cakes for remembrance which was fun and very competitive.

statisticianintraining · 28/11/2020 22:11

We did one in work for a colleague’s 30th in the first lockdown. She loves alone and was very isolated. It went down a storm. It was in the evening and a few people had a drink but lots of staff don’t drink and it didn’t matter. I can pm you the quiz if you like- it was a PowerPoint. I didn’t put it together but I don’t think my colleague would mind. . We were out into team and went into breakout rooms to work on small group and then reconvene. It was fun

StripeyDeckchair · 28/11/2020 22:12

2hours
Virtual party
It doesn't matter what people say what they mean is FML, its been a shit year why are you making it worse

grassisjeweled · 28/11/2020 22:13

Fresh hell

We're having fancy Christmas food delivered to our homes instead, thank god

likeamillpond · 28/11/2020 22:13

Office parties are for getting pissed. An of
What kind of strange people get off on playing shit games? Shit virtual games?
Sounds like he'll on earth.
I'd rather stick pins in my eyes a nd pineapple up my arse.
Sideways.

Iheartmysmart · 28/11/2020 22:14

Thank fuck our virtual Christmas party is outside of work hours. It has been firmly declined! As a PP said I have suffered enough this year without watching our inane CEO lead the Christmas sing song and quiz.

grassisjeweled · 28/11/2020 22:14

Just let everyone speak for 7 minutes each then you can close the call?

maddiemookins16mum · 28/11/2020 22:17

Drag bingo hopefully.

JaniceSopranoJr · 28/11/2020 22:20

God I hate this crap. I predict some WiFi issues for the team on that day!

Bubbletrouble43 · 28/11/2020 22:25

I'm with coasterfan. So happy I'm a self employed loner. A zoom work Xmas party. I think I'd rather relive my colposcopy.

CherryPieface · 28/11/2020 22:25

We’ve got something similar planned OP. Going to do a quiz, an end of year review (lighthearted!) and everyone has picked their favourite Christmas song, so we’ll play them and have a drink. Looking forward to it! Good luck with your event x

cyclingmad · 28/11/2020 22:26

Oh god why do you have to docit. My workplace what's to do drinks after work hours as we can't drink whilst working even wfh. I mean fml why am I going to spend my personal time with some tea or water (cos I dont drink) with coworkers who i don't even like. I definitely won't be for sure.

Our workplace is also now telling us to go do a 30min walk outside...like literally fu** off.

Its bad enough our freedoms are taken away by the government, I don't need work telling me what to do to stay healthy.

likeamillpond · 28/11/2020 22:26

this

Makes me laugh when people say
Im going to XYZ
No you're not going Somewhere.
You are not leaving your living room.
You're pretending to be somewhere else.

Zooming cannot and never will be able to replace doing something for real.

fullofhope100 · 28/11/2020 22:26

@Laarkawaay

Well it is happenning so I will just have to make it enjoyable Grin. I do think that these things can be fun but they are really time-consuming to organise. No budget sadly to send goodies unless I pay for it myself.
PLEASE for the love of God speak to your Directors/whoever and say lets give everyone a couple of hours off {ie sod off 2 hours early on Christmas eve or whenever). Don't put people through the pain/boredom/yet more pain of a 2 hour sodding Zoom 'party'
deste · 28/11/2020 22:27

My DD has organised one for over 100 staff, before they go home they are being given a box with a cocktail kit, an afternoon/ evening type tea which they will all open at the same time, not sure what else is happening but they will also be given an envelope and are doing awards for all sorts of reasons. They got the afternoon tea for a very reasonable price as let’s face it everyone is looking for business. It is all coming beautifully presented. It is costing the staff £20 and the school is donating £10 per member of staff.

Not the point of the thread but @FudgeBrownie2019 what job do you have?? And are they hiring Grin

funinthesun19 · 28/11/2020 22:30

Oh god that sounds so dull. Sorry op. If I was invited to this my WiFi would stop working.
