That a work Zoom Christmas party is a really hard thing to organise!

It is 2 hrs during the day, so I can't fall back on a booze theme. Team of 15 and, yes I can do a quiz, but we can we do a quiz for 2 hours?! AIBU that this is a pretty hard ask? What's everyone else doing for their virual Christmas parties - though I'm not even calling it that as I'm worried it will be even shitter if I do!

Geez just spare people the misery and give them two hours off instead.

livefornaps · 28/11/2020 20:31

I would personally have "connection issues" if anyone proposed this. I only make an appearance if there is free booze to get hammered on

whitewineandmagnums · 28/11/2020 20:32

I organised a virtual art class with a local art school for a team 'away day' earlier in the year and it went down a storm!

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 28/11/2020 20:33

Fuck me that makes me feel like crying

happytoday73 · 28/11/2020 20:33

Good lord... Just no...

FudgeBrownie2019 · 28/11/2020 20:33

Can you just send them all a hamper of booze/cheese/treats and give them an early finish?

My company normally does a Christmas trip abroad - usually somewhere beautifully snowy and picturesque. This year they've given us the three days off we'd usually have been away and said they're sending out "survival packages" instead. I am thrilled, despite missing out on a lovely trip.

SylviasMotherSaid · 28/11/2020 20:34

No one will enjoy this at all !

Infinitethings · 28/11/2020 20:36

Two hours! No way would I be up for that. Possibly a half hour thing if it was well-organised.

Miip · 28/11/2020 20:37

I'd have WiFi issues too. No thanks.

Floralnomad · 28/11/2020 20:37

Why bother nobody wants to take part .

ComDummings · 28/11/2020 20:37

Work Christmas parties are shit enough. Zoom works Christmas parties sound beyond shit.

StillDumDeDumming · 28/11/2020 20:37

Do you have a budget? There are some online escape rooms? Apart from that I have nothing. You cannot drink at your home office work computer- it’s too much of a slippery slope. We’ve asked fir a couple of hours off. You can’t talk properly on zooms - it’s ok for meetings and training- not for socialising

Laarkawaay · 28/11/2020 20:38

Well it is happenning so I will just have to make it enjoyable Grin. I do think that these things can be fun but they are really time-consuming to organise. No budget sadly to send goodies unless I pay for it myself.

Don’t do it.

AldiAisleofCrap · 28/11/2020 20:38

It won’t be enjoyable or fun.

ShaunaTheSheep · 28/11/2020 20:39

Dress code (waist up only!) like kitchen disco or Xmas jumper or wig/hat etc

Then a few quick activities

Themed bingo

Paper plate awards - decide categories and get nominations in advance

Baby photos quiz

Make something against the click with a video tutorial eg origami Xmas tree

Namerchanger42 · 28/11/2020 20:39

I’m in the same position been nominated as a joint ‘organiser’ it’s for 2 hours in our own time!!! Christ knows what we’re going to do. I want to call the whole thing off.

OrangeBananaFish · 28/11/2020 20:41

I do enjoy the work Christmas night out and often look forward to it. However, I do not plan to take part in anything virtual. Meetings, yes, but virtual parties? No not at all.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 28/11/2020 20:41

DHs work are doing a virtual cocktail mixing class and have all been sent little boxes of gin and mixers

quarentini · 28/11/2020 20:41

Honestly, just give them the extra hours off.
If it's in work time they can't refuse but honestly they don't want to do it!

Oooohbehave · 28/11/2020 20:42

I love a party but I cannot think of anything worse than this. I’d actually rather work.

Laarkawaay · 28/11/2020 20:43

Bah humbugs!! People do really want to get together and do something that's been decided - I'm just trying to make it as good as i can (with no budget or pre-sent props!)

Mr Google isn't being a huge amount of help though.

Ds did one recently and they did a scavenger hunt, he sounded like he was having fun running around the house and garden trying to find the items.

ipushmyfingersintomyeyes · 28/11/2020 20:44

I would book a meeting for the last 2 hours of the day and then when they all log on, say thanks and wish them all a Merry Christmas and tell everyone to log off early. I know I would appreciate that more than a cringe 2 hour bore fest

Coasterfan · 28/11/2020 20:45

I’m a self employed sole trader. Thank fuck.
