Husband, Friend, Lover

gettingusedtothelimelight · 28/11/2020 12:07

Ok so this might just be me but why do people refer to their husband (or wife or partner) as

My husband, best friend and lover when wishing them happy birthday or anniversary in Facebook.

Would husband not be sufficient? I'm guessing if they're your husband then they're probably your best friend anyway so pointless to add that. And why bother adding lover - is it to just to say - oh look at us we still have sex 😂

🤷🏼‍♀️

My husband now is my best friend, he's husband number 2. When I was married to husband number one I honestly didn't understand people saying that their husband was their best friend because mine certainly wasn't. Now with husband number 2 I totally get it, he really is my best friend. On the point of lover, that is a bit cringe. To be honest I wouldn't post husband, lover, best friend anyway.!

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 28/11/2020 12:20

Because they’re irritating show offs. Probably also say happy birthday to their children who are not on Facebook and can’t read and to deceased relatives. (I dare say there are things I do on Facebook they wouldn’t like).

greeneyedlulu · 28/11/2020 12:28

My partner is my best friend but I would never say lover, that's so cheesy and probably just trying to boast about their sex life or at least insinuate they still have one.

formerbabe · 28/11/2020 12:29

Absolute cringe

Cocomarine · 28/11/2020 12:30

Neither ex nor current husband is my best friend 🤷🏻‍♀️
I always think that’s a waste of a best friend slot!

Mrsjayy · 28/11/2020 12:31

I might just curled in a ball with the cringe! That is disgusting who says that !

Cocomarine · 28/11/2020 12:31

I have never seen anyone add “lover” in a “husband and best friend” fb gush though. You’ve seen this more than once? 😳

Mrsjayy · 28/11/2020 12:32

It reminds me of that bloody James blunt song goodbye my lover!

VetiverAndLavender · 28/11/2020 12:36

Yeah, I hate the word "lover", anyway, but publicly referring to someone as a lover is the cringiest.

Oysterbabe · 28/11/2020 12:38

It is a bit cringe.
My husband isn't my best friend.

Oysterbabe · 28/11/2020 12:39

Although I live in Bristol and people will often refer to people as their lover even if they patently aren't.

Fuckitsstillraining · 28/11/2020 12:41

I unfollowed a family member because I couldn't stomach any more of these 'my best friend, my strength, my love's posts particularly the one posted one for their wedding anniversary when I know they've both played around, split up, got back together, been on the point of splitting again but now they can't stop telling the extended family how great their relationship is, strangely this togetherness only developed after they copped that their ridiculous behaviour and dragging others in to it was threatening their inheritance.

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 28/11/2020 12:42

People who post birthday/anniversary/christmas greetings on fb to people they live with make me cringe no matter what. Qualifying the word "husband" with "best friend and lover" is the cherry on the cringe cake, but you know what's worse than that? Playmate. Seeing people describe their husband/partner as their "playmate" just takes it to a new level for me.

AintPageantMaterial · 28/11/2020 12:42

I don’t understand wishing your husband Happy Birthday on social media at all. He’s sitting next to me on the sofa so I can use the medium of actual speech!
Putting it on Facebook is performance show-off shit.

Speedyspunker · 28/11/2020 12:43

Cringefest. If I want to say 'Happy birthday' to my husband I look him in the eye and do it. The thing about addressing the deceased on Facebook gives me the shudders; pretty sure they don't have broadband in the afterlife.

BefuddledPerson · 28/11/2020 12:44

Oh I can't bear all this - just wish him happy birthday to his face and spare us the cheesy updates! The word 'lover' is just wrong full stop imo anyway.

TheTrashBagIsOursCmonTrashBag · 28/11/2020 12:45

Yuck that’s so cringe.

SimonJT · 28/11/2020 12:46

I call him my partner, he won’t get the title of husband for a few more months. I wouldn’t personally use lover, that title was used to other us for a long time.

BigFatLiar · 28/11/2020 12:53

Hopefully you husband, best friend and lover don't meet to compare what you've said.Grin

Mrsjayy · 28/11/2020 12:56

I think Bristolians get away with it ☺️

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 28/11/2020 13:02

Congratulations simonJT 🙂

gettingusedtothelimelight · 28/11/2020 13:05

@Cocomarine Unfortunately I've seen it from a few people 😫

I don't mind it in the context of dog lover or cat lover but in a relationship yes it is a bit cringe.
Abouttimemum · 28/11/2020 13:20

Best friend, fine, lover is cringe.

I thought this was going to be a weird post about a complicated Christmas bubble! Blush Grin
