Husband, Friend, Lover

Ok so this might just be me but why do people refer to their husband (or wife or partner) as

My husband, best friend and lover when wishing them happy birthday or anniversary in Facebook.

Would husband not be sufficient? I'm guessing if they're your husband then they're probably your best friend anyway so pointless to add that. And why bother adding lover - is it to just to say - oh look at us we still have sex 😂

My husband is my husband. My best friends are different people

Every post my colleague puts on Facebook about her husband she calls him (and I quote, emoji and all) her "Hubbie, bestie, and lover all wrapped into one with a ribbon on it 🎀" Constantly refers to him as her 'Partner in crime' and 'Team mate'

I hate it so much Grin

lazylinguist · 28/11/2020 13:30

It's a bit cringe using Facebook to publicly wish your husband (who's probably sitting next to you while you type) happy birthday/anniversary anyway, never mind doing it in such a cheesy way. Marginally less annoying than referring to him as 'this one' though. Hmm

PurpleHoodie · 28/11/2020 13:31

Ohhh. Congratulations to be Simon.

Besom · 28/11/2020 13:33

Eew. Lover. Eew.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 28/11/2020 13:34

My husband is absolutely my best friend! I don’t say anything about him on Facebook though.......

One of my Facebook friends always wishes “my best friend Happy Birthday” when it is ANY of her close friends’ birthdays... devalues it rather.....

knittingaddict · 28/11/2020 13:49

Well my husband is my best friend, but that would go in a card and never on FB, as I deleted my unused account years ago. Hate the term lover, so that wouldn't even make it to the card.

Nunoftheother · 28/11/2020 14:36

I think if they're the sort of person who feels the need to use social media to make public declarations to someone they share a house with, then all bets are off in terms of being circumspect / modest / classy, etc.

They're clearly fully paid-up members of the "this one" / "love you to the moon and back" / "x is my world" club.

Mrsjayy · 28/11/2020 14:57

They were all about "this one," on strictly last year it really is irritating and it made me mute or fast forward interviews. Do people really say it in real life ?

thepeopleversuswork · 28/11/2020 15:31

It is a bit of a cringefest.... I suppose its just supposed to show that he's not only the husband, he goes above and beyond. Because let's face it a lot of husbands don't.

But yeah I think the gushing is a bit unnecessary. If you really love your husband you shouldn't need to qualify any of this.

But then I'm British about this sort of thing...

praepondero · 28/11/2020 16:45

Because some of us prefer to keep them separate..... My friend is not my husband and my husband is not my lover....

Whenwillow · 28/11/2020 16:50

Irritates the hell out of me when people wish anyone a happy birthday on Facebook.
Particularly when they do it on their own status and tag the recipient.
It just screams 'look at me!' But then that's all Facebook is about, isn't it?
(Yes I deleted my account long ago, but I still have the misfortune to be shown things on there sometimes 🙈)

Whenwillow · 28/11/2020 16:52

@mrsjayy I'd only say 'this one' if their name had escaped me Blush

nemeton · 28/11/2020 16:52

Husband, friend, lover suggests three people to me!

Congratulations @SimonJT! Thanks

Branleuse · 28/11/2020 17:04

i think its sweet

Laiste · 28/11/2020 17:14

Not all husbands are also best mates. My first one certainly wasn't. 2nd one is (and has been for 15 years now) and i find it significant to add this on his cards.

Lover? That's cringy.

Ariela · 28/11/2020 17:14

I wouldn't put a happy birthday post of FB, why is it anyone else's business? I'd tell him in person!

Mrsjayy · 28/11/2020 19:23

@Whenwillow maybe that's it nobody can remember names Smile

TheRogueApostrophe · 28/11/2020 20:14

I find birthday wishes on FB cringey full stop. It's like a competition to see who can use the most adjectives : "happy birthday to my beautiful, strong, feisty, funny, energetic DD". Usually said child isn't on FB anyway, so who exactly is the post for?

SimonJT · 28/11/2020 20:22

@ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings @PurpleHoodie @nemeton

Thank you, we’re both very excited 🥰
