Relief.

My daughter passed. Kent. Now just got to wait for school allocation!

Mini celebration tonight but not ott. I’d bought the treats before knowing because either way - we were going to celebrate. Either for passing or for never having to think about the 12 plus again!

That must be a relief. How does it work in your area, how many grammar to non grammars are there? Do most people sit the 11+?

There aren’t any where we are so I find it interesting. Apparently there are 163 in England and 69 in Northern Ireland, out of 3,000 or so.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 26/11/2020 15:33

He got 178. Pass score is 205. Birmingham.

He did absolutely no practice so I think he did well all things considering. Had he practised I think he would have got through.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 26/11/2020 15:35

We weren't told pass scores as the school felt it more beneficial that all pupils started on an equal footing.

Freakout11 · 26/11/2020 17:05

She’s so happy.
Hasn’t realised she was so preoccupied with it

But doesn’t come from school? Comes from council
OP posts:
Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 26/11/2020 17:17

Not where I am.
There is only one Grammar school so it has nothing to do with the council. The school let you know if you are in or not.

unmarkedbythat · 26/11/2020 17:20

We don't live in grammar area but one of the neighbouring LEAs is. Ds2 asked to sit for one of the grammars so with the understanding that we wouldn't get a place regardless due to distance he did and he passed. I am still not sure why he wanted to but he is an odd kid at times :)

TeenPlusTwenties · 26/11/2020 17:26

Didn't have to take it because I live in Hants which is an all comp area. Smile

So glad we live in an area where the same school can cope with all A grade (7+) students, and also those that struggle to pass.

Dixiechickonhols · 26/11/2020 17:28

ihopeyourcskeisshit Yes same for Grammar school DD goes to in Lancashire. You get a letter from school saying if child met standard or not. If they have and live in catchment they definitely get a place as less pass than places. The rest of places go on score order to out of catchment. No one told marks. Before someone jumps in about admissions code it’s worded that they will offer them a place if you apply though council but it’s a formality. It was a big plus no waiting for March, DD knew where she was going early October. It’s very different to other areas with grammars.

LadyCatStark · 26/11/2020 17:35

Oh... I’d forgotten next year’s children had taken the test and I was coming on to tell you how my DS got on with his 🙈😂 it might help to tell you that he’s absolutely loving grammar school life though! Congratulations to your DD, it’s a very long wait now, as I’m sure you’ll find that she just wants to go now!

DS wasn’t told his scores either, I think he probably goes to the boys version of @Dixiechickonhols DD though!

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 26/11/2020 17:40

Probably the same school Dixie

Dixiechickonhols · 26/11/2020 17:48

ihopeyourcakeisshit I know Clitheroe and Lancaster do it this way not sure about Bacup. I’m from a none grammar area so it was all new to me. Obviously people know the out of catchment kids will have scored well but no one knows exact scores.

user1471530109 · 26/11/2020 17:51

Do all councils tell you if they've passed then, before school allocation day?

I know they normally do and obviously usually before the application deadline day. Dd took her 11+ last month and we haven't been told anything about getting any results. I asked another parent and she also didn't know.

Freakout11 · 26/11/2020 18:05

We won’t know the school until March!

OP posts:
babycakes1010 · 26/11/2020 18:35

We get DD results on Monday

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 26/11/2020 18:43

That's a bummer Freakout

Theghostofchristmasarse · 26/11/2020 18:58

DD smashed it, she also wasnt stressed or bothered by it which was the main thing.
We are in Kent... We have a better idea of the school she will get now, as we are 2.3 miles from a school that has an 8mile plus catchment, but it's not certain.

@TeenPlusTwenties the schools here have grammar streams and are very much able to cope with higher ability kids, I work in a grammar and it's not all high flyers, we have boys who are able but struggle with life in general..
It's about the right school for the kid. For us, DD seemed to like a very nurturing, creative girls grammar and a comp that has a very strong arts provision... Would have been happy to get either.. Just got to wait and see now.

Glitteryone · 26/11/2020 19:05

I’m in NI.

Daughter will sit 3 exams in January (3 x Saturdays out of the 4) and we then get the results in March.

Is the 11+ not a common thing in England? Here in NI I’d say most kids do it. There’ll be a few from each class that don’t but most kids try.

janetmendoza · 26/11/2020 19:06

ds failed. It was always likely he would but he wanted to have a go - no coaching here. So he went to the non selective school and got the best GCSE results in the school. None of it matters really now he is 25.

No, there’s only 163 grammar schools out of 3000.

From what I know, there are a few areas with just one grammar school, but some areas have more. Anyone else have a bit more of a clue?
Wales and Scotland have none.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 26/11/2020 19:24

Birmingham has super selectives.
Lincolnshire is a grammar area as is Kent. Other than that I’m not sure

GreyishDays · 26/11/2020 19:30

Oh I could have just googled. Here they are.

I went to LGGS (in 1995) and our system was like that. We weren't told our scores, but I lived out of catchment and didn't have sisters there, so I must have scored fairly highly.
NichyNoo · 26/11/2020 20:40

We’re in Wirral and get told “by 27 November”. So I’m guessing we’ll find out tomorrow.

Janeyem · 26/11/2020 20:46

Kent here too and DD passed! Yay! I’m on the wine, we had fish n chips for tea! Thank goodness the wait is finally over!
