To think how come there are men on Mumsnet ?

I was quite confused to be honest.

I genuinely thought Mumsnet as it's says mums. Is for women only just surprised to come across a lot of males.

Now it's not a bad thing at all. Just quite surprising to be honest ?

@Gobbycop

Because the site is full of useful information.

Some posters even ask for a male perspective on certain threads.

Shocking really isn't it, I'm a white straight male so currently everything that's evil and wrong with the world 😂

Only on MN. In the real world, women are generally slightly less sexist. Thank Christ! Grin

This question has been done many times over the years.

It might be called Mumsnet, but it specifically states (right under the word "Mumsnet" Smile ) that it's for parents. I believe there's a quote back in the mists of time from the founders saying they considered "Parentsnet" but "Mumsnet" is a bit snappier.

To be honest, I think the name of the site keeps away the idiot men who wouldn't want to "waste their time on a women's site" Hmm , and leaves a vibrant place where those of either sex can have a good discussion.

We got invaded by men once, so we invaded back. It got messy. [grin[

Back when I was new on here, I once queried why non parents were on here, because I was genuinely surprised.
Got my arse handed to me on a plate.

Now I know MN better, I understand more what brings people here.

What is this sex board many of you on here speak of?

Brace yerself.

Title of your sex tape.

Sorry.

I'll get my coat.

I'm a 25yo childless woman. I'm here because I value the input of women older and wiser than me. Sometimes a male POV is also useful.

Hawkins001 · 27/11/2020 23:57

Penisbeaker, reading the daily mail article then started reading all the intriguing topics that are not about parenting and went from there.

LindaEllen · 28/11/2020 00:03

I don't have kids of my own, but originally came on to get some advice about my teenage stepson. Then, I sort of got sucked in, and although I do absolutely still use it for advice regarding him, I also get involved in a lot of other threads, too.

Should I leave then, as I'm not a mum?

roarfeckingroarr · 28/11/2020 01:23

Men want to be a part of every space. They think their opinions should be heard.

I did warn you. Grin

Can't imagine asking DH what he was doing on the internet and he said 'oh just sharing the minute details of our sex life to help the ladies on MN'. Confused

Yep
JustSay · 28/11/2020 05:01

We are in desperate need for their opinion because how could our little lady brains figure anything out without their generous mansplaining.

I definitely still think it 'in the real world'. How could I not when I see it in my face even moreso out there? I just don't say it out loud because we all know how that ends up.

Ginandplatonic · 28/11/2020 05:10

Oooh nearly there!! So far today I’ve seen a thread about irresponsible dog owners, a thread about P&C car spaces, and now a thread asking what non-Mums are doin on MN!

By my reckoning we just need a “shoes on it off in house?” thread and a “how often do you wash your sheets/towels/self?” thread for the full house. Grin

Covid has ruined everything.

I yearn for a 'reclining seats or not on an airplane' thread. TBF when I was a newbie on here I was surprised men were on here but luckily never started a thread to ask about it. Grin

Ginandplatonic · 28/11/2020 05:18

@Sparklingbrook ah yes, or that other plane travel classic - is it unreasonable to not reserve a seat on plane then ask someone to swap so I can sit with my child.

Those were the days.

Ginandplatonic · 28/11/2020 05:27

@Sparklingbrook the days when none of us knew what an R number was and a trip to the supermarket was a chore not a treat. Ahhh, the good ol’ days.

josbd · 28/11/2020 14:47

I am female, lesbian and not a parent. But I do have a bunch of "kids". Because mine is the place many of them chose to be when they were booted into touch by their (usually) single parent when they reached 16.

I very much doubt there are many men on here who are not decent blokes. as they would be intimidated by the high quality of wit here. And any of em would be instantly spotted and sorted out, should they attempt to take over the gaff!
