What is actually the difference between the Tiers?

It seems that the only difference is pubs and restaurants being closed and no household mixing....

All shops and schools to be open across all 3

Hairdressers etc to be open

Is that it?

Meet in gardens in tier two
Meet only in public outdoor places in tier 3

Dustballs · 26/11/2020 12:23

It's all bullshit.

IRunLikeJoeBiden · 26/11/2020 12:29

The BBC have got into a tangle, trying to distinguish between 2 and 3. Confused

It's all a bit Assistant Manager or Assistant to the Manager at Wernham Hogg. Grin

What is actually the difference between the Tiers?

@StealthPolarBear

Meet in gardens in tier two Meet only in public outdoor places in tier 3
Surely both those things carry the same risk? People are still outdoors.
BigSandyBalls2015 · 26/11/2020 12:37

non essential shops won't open in tier 3 I don't think

Non essential retail is open everywhere.

The government guidance is here

StylishMummy · 26/11/2020 12:40

Only in tier 3 is hospitality fully closed. Poor souls

HilaryBriss · 26/11/2020 12:42

Tier 3 means I now can't go out for Christmas dinner and will have to cook it myself for only the second time in my 52 years.

I forgot the pigs in blankets and stuffing balls the first and only time I've cooked it before, I left them in the fridge Grin

Could you get it as a take away?

I’m crossing fingers my tier 3 area might go down to tier two in a fortnight when the first review happens.

RandomMess · 26/11/2020 12:45

In Tier 3 I can't meet anyone outside and sit under a patio heater and have a meal and drink unless I lug one to a public park...

MereDintofPandiculation · 26/11/2020 12:47

Surely both those things carry the same risk? People are still outdoors. If you're in a garden, you might let people use your loo, you might get a space heater and all huddle around it, you might be more inclined to bring out food and drink. In the middle of winter in a park with no heater, you'll be disinclined to bring a picnic, you'll be walking briskly to keep warm, and you're less likely to spend a long time together. I can see the logic.

But you can go shopping and mix with hundreds of others, makes no sense Hmm
Hesnotlocal · 26/11/2020 12:48

HilaryBriss- I wonder if local restaurants/pubs will be offering takeaway Xmas dinners? I know somewhere near us has been doing takeaway sunday dinners through lockdown and they're really popular. If you did that you could even feel virtuous that you are helping keep them going whilst they are closed!

RandomMess · 26/11/2020 12:49

@JemimaJellyfish indeed, not to mention where I live the rate is below 1, two of the areas that border is 5 miles away and use our hospital have R rate of over 2 and are in Tier 2.

Utter joke.

MereDintofPandiculation · 26/11/2020 12:49

Tier 3 shouldn't travel outside their area.

It means those of us who can't fit into a Christmas Bubble can't even travel to see people outside.

JacobReesMogadishu · 26/11/2020 12:50

In tier 3 - no gym classes.

PavoReal · 26/11/2020 12:51

You can’t travel in or out of tier 3. You can potter around if you are tier 2 (add the usual dull caveats)

JacobReesMogadishu · 26/11/2020 12:51

If you're in tier 3 can you travel to a different tier 3 area?

RandomMess · 26/11/2020 12:52

@JacobReesMogadishu errr no

radioband · 26/11/2020 12:52

All I load of shit!

JacobReesMogadishu · 26/11/2020 12:53
@JacobReesMogadishu errr no
I didn't think so, but a colleague asked.

RandomMess · 26/11/2020 12:53

There can be Covid secure gym classes though?

PurpleDaisies · 26/11/2020 12:56

@RandomMess

In tier 3? No.
Tobebythesea · 26/11/2020 12:56

So in tier 2 you can meet in your garden but in tier 3 you have to meet in a park/open public space? What really is the difference?
