To be worried about these ‘mild’ symptoms?

In the last few weeks I’ve had some odd symptoms
Dizziness while standing in a particular place only in my house, tripping on one particular stair each time I go up it’s like my brain temporarily forgets how to use stairs ?
I keep forgetting words I know
I keep going into a room and forgetting why
The dizziness I cannot work out at all. I just feel generally ‘off’
Do I just need to rest more or is this actually worth seeing the gp about ?

I’ve been repeating myself too accidentally telling dh the same thing multiple times
My memory up till now has been excellent so I feel embarrassed and confused why I’m so forgetful

I’m 38 if relevant

Are you a female of a certain age ?

FippertyGibbett · 25/11/2020 07:33

Peri-menopause then .

FippertyGibbett · 25/11/2020 07:34

Might be worth a chat with the GP to check your iron levels and vitamin levels.

Alexandernevermind · 25/11/2020 07:35

Give your GP a call and tell them what you have told us. You don't have dizzy spells and forgetfullness like that unless something is amiss. They might just give you a blood pressure monitor to start with, but definitely persue this.

Alexandernevermind · 25/11/2020 07:36

And dont let them be dismissive and assume it's a woman of a certain age thing!

AmIokorNot · 25/11/2020 07:37

Can peri menopause cause these symptoms ? I had no idea I will look it up. I think the stair thing has really bothered me I just seem to get halfway and can’t do stairs anymore it’s so frustrating

AmIokorNot · 25/11/2020 07:38

Thanks I will call the gp I think they are only do phone appts still but might be a good idea as I’ve waited a while and nothings better so maybe I need a blood test like suggested. I just don’t feel myself at all

Ask them to check your vitamin d levels as low vitamin d can cause these symptoms among other things.

CecilyP · 25/11/2020 07:39

You are very young to have those symptoms. I thought you were going to say you were in your 60s. It would be sensible to get yourself checked out.

Porcupineinwaiting · 25/11/2020 07:40

I've never heard of peri menopause making it difficult for people to tackle stairs. Go to the doctor. Dont let them fob you off.

AmIokorNot · 25/11/2020 07:47

I had tripped a few times thought nothing of it then it happened more then I was conscious of it and I can’t work out why also the dizziness at one place so many times I’ll go to walk to the front room and feel overwhelmed by dizziness and nearly fall but it’s not anywhere else i thought maybe I was going mad.
I’m definitely very forgetful/ repetitive. I’ll call the gp today I think

Do you have a carbon monoxide detector? I think the fact you experience these symptoms in a certain area of your house is a big red flag.

AmIokorNot · 25/11/2020 07:57

Yes its in one of the bedrooms and is working so can’t be that

Few things - iron levels, vitamins d and b12. Also magnesium (I find best restored by having Epsom salts/magnesium flakes in a bath).
If you supplement vit d, also take vit k2. With vit B12 use methylcobalamin as it absorbs more easily than the other types.

Lou197 · 25/11/2020 08:05

I had a virus with dizzy symptoms that lasted a few months but has totally gone now.

ScrapThatThen · 25/11/2020 08:13

While dizziness and forgetfulness can be symptoms of lots of things, sudden and specific changes like this could indicate something neurological and should be discussed with a GP and don't be fobbed off. Go in armed with sensible questions to ask - what do my blood results indicate and if everything is within range, are there some that are nonetheless low? could tripping over the step, combined with sudden memory change, indicate a problem in my brain and would any scans be indicated? What are the steps you will take to exclude serious causes?

ScrapThatThen · 25/11/2020 08:16

The dizziness in a particular place - have you suddenly stood up from sitting a while? Could be a postural drop in your blood pressure. Try measuring your blood pressure sitting and then standing and see if there is a big difference.

BoggledBudgie · 25/11/2020 08:20

@AmIokorNot your carbon monoxide detector should be within 2m of your boiler and any gas appliances. You should also have one both upstairs and downstairs.

We had a very slow gas leak 10 years ago, not a bad one but enough that I constantly felt dizzy/forgetful/bit sick in the kitchen whenever the cooker was on. We filled a spray bottle with water and fairy liquid, spayed it along the gas pipe leading to our cooker and it went all bubbly (sign there’s gas leaking). Didn’t have a monoxide alarm at the time, but the engineer installed one when we called them out and said it needs to be within 2m of gas appliances due to small gas leaks not being detected if it’s further away

Sohardtochooseausername · 25/11/2020 08:22

Are you under a lot of stress? Stress can affect everything. I’ve been stressed and forgotten names, asked the same question over and over, etc. As well as GP look at your life - are you spinning too many plates? Getting enough relaxation time?

AmIokorNot · 25/11/2020 08:37

We are very busy I suppose work, dc, etc it’s definitely hectic but not more than usual
I get dizzy by the bottom of stairs / by front room I guess that could be either getting up quick or walking from kitchen where it gets very warm with cooking or dryer on etc

You are a bit young for perimenopause, but I had similar symptoms in my early 40s. I found I was b12 deficient and also blood sugar was raised.

middleager · 25/11/2020 08:48

Could it be vertigo? My mother got this and is now on medication.

Nottherealslimshady · 25/11/2020 08:49

Check for hidden damp and bring your CO monitor to the spot you keep going dizzy. If both of those are clear then see your gp.

Could it be that you go dizzy a set time after standing up so are always in the same place when it happens?
