To ask if health visitors check social media?

Trying to keep this vague as it could be outing if the people involved are on MN.

A person from my hometown has posted a picture on Facebook of their child with excrement on their face, alongside a status explaining they came downstairs like that after going to the toilet alone and how funny they thought this was. I don’t know the person but they went to the same secondary school as my cousin who has screenshot it and sent it to me. The post has obviously not gone down well and the poster has received a lot flack for it. I believe the poster has been very dismissive to people who have posted their concerns saying that the child is only small and it was just supposed to be a funny light hearted status. They don’t accept that it was very inappropriate to post a photo of this online.

My cousin has heard from a mutual friend that health visitors check social media, so thinks this will be flagged, but I have never heard of this? My own health visitor has never mentioned this to me but I’m in a different area so wasn’t sure if this was something other areas did. Can anyone shed some light?

Why on earth would they check social media? (And who on earth doesn't have privacy settings?).

They're not the Gestapo.

I sincerely doubt they have the time, too.

borageforager · 24/11/2020 09:55

I can’t believe that HV spend their time trawling social media on the off chance that they come across someone who lives on their patch who has posted something they should be concerned about...

AnyFucker · 24/11/2020 09:55

No. Hope that helps.

Now stop listening to fucking paranoid halfwits.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 24/11/2020 09:56

Well of someone actually reported this incident and told them it was on social media, ots a possibility. I doubt social services would take it that seriously though , in the grand scheme of things its not that bad.

Savourysenorita · 24/11/2020 09:57

Yeah I'm sure they do. Alongside secret surveillance cameras In the bedrooms and a walky talky system to give the chitty chitty bang bang car the nod so the social workers can take away your kids mwahahaha.......of course they bloody don't

ScotchBunnet · 24/11/2020 09:58

I doubt they do and honestly while the photo was in poor taste and pretty gross, is it a sign of something that needs ‘flagged’? A child making a mess with poo is not exactly cause for intervention, even if posting it on social media is a bit gross and stupid.

GuillermoVanHelsing · 24/11/2020 09:58

No.

And maybe your cousin could do with a hobby?

Savourysenorita · 24/11/2020 09:58

Ps it was you that posted that pic wasn't it?

N0ManJan · 24/11/2020 10:00

Thanks all, I thought this was unlikely. My cousin hasn’t got children but had heard HVs check if the person has a public profile so asked if this is something I’d experienced. I’ll let them know they don’t check SM. I said at the time I only have Pinterest and a private Instagram so I dont think they’d be able to see most people’s accounts anyway

Do people really think HV have nothing else to do other than sit around stalking people? 🤣😂

N0ManJan · 24/11/2020 10:01

@Savourysenorita

Ps it was you that posted that pic wasn't it?
I don’t have a Facebook account so not me

canigooutyet · 24/11/2020 10:03

And there's nothing original about posting a shit covered baby on SM.

user1493413286 · 24/11/2020 10:03

There’s all kinds of privacy laws around it even when it’s on a public page; I’m a social worker and there’s all kinds of rules that we have to follow about doing things like that as professionals have got in trouble for it.

dentydown · 24/11/2020 10:09

I have noticed social workers involved in my case come up as “people you may know” on Facebook. Which means they probably snooped. Why they didn’t use a faked name profile I don’t know!Hmm

40weekswithno2 · 24/11/2020 10:11

@dentydown I believe that people can come up in that section if your phones have spent a certain amount of time near each other too.

canigooutyet · 24/11/2020 10:15

A FB connection can be because of phone numbers. If you have friends of friends in anyway, a link is made. Nothing about snooping.

Extraslice · 24/11/2020 10:16

I work with a HV team and trust me, they aren’t have enough time to even do all their notes, let alone checking social media (especially at the moment)

canigooutyet · 24/11/2020 10:17

Another FB "people you know" also comes from the various games and groups you're involved with.

EmeraldShamrock · 24/11/2020 10:23

I doubt it though someone could report it to SS or the HV.
I'm not sure what way it would be dealt with.

goldielockdown2 · 24/11/2020 10:30

No, your cousin is chatting shit because they like spreading gossip, same reason she sent you the screenshot in the first place.

Tanfastic · 24/11/2020 10:47

No but social workers do.

Tanfastic · 24/11/2020 10:48

For someone that is already on their radar btw not just any random. Usually when care proceedings are involved.

mummytonicekidz · 24/11/2020 11:45

Of course they don't check social
Media. They are over worked and under paid. They have enough to do already.
But why would she consider it appropriate to post a pic on social media of a child smeared with poo all over their face? 🤮
I would imagine the police/ social service would investigate if asked to though. That's really disgusting.

mummytonicekidz · 24/11/2020 11:54

Sorry I didn't mean to sound rude. It's just make my skin crawl a bit.

VestaTilley · 24/11/2020 15:00

I doubt they do, but I think that’s awful that person shared that photo.

Cruel to their child and not respectful of their child’s privacy. Why did they leave a small child to go the loo by themselves anyway? I’d be worried they weren’t taking care of the child properly and would probably look to report the parent.
