No calls
I collected my son like this
It's his worst wound ever
He hurt his chin on the same toy last week

My son said he cried for me
School told him only if you go to hospitals

I got shown a form at collection time

Poor thing Sad Accident form as standard (time, place, how, injury, after care, adult present etc.). But I definitely think a courtesy call would have been appropriate so you didn’t get a shock plus your son would know that mum was thinking of him, I know my son’s school did this when in same situation. Would raise this with the Head - very thoughtless of them not to.

Bringonspring · 23/11/2020 20:07

That looks like a burn to me. I would take him to the doctors.

Gorgeous boy

UniversalHadIt · 23/11/2020 20:08

You’d expect a call to warn you about that. He looks so sore- poor little guy.

The fact that the accident happened wouldn’t bother me (my DS has had some real bruises and scrapes from exuberant play at nursery- once had 4 accident forms in a day- he’s just a bull in a china shop), but the lack of communication from the nursery definitely would.

AaronPurr · 23/11/2020 20:09

Another one here who thinks it looks like a burn, especially in the 3rd photo.

TheHobbitMum · 23/11/2020 20:11

How on earth has a toy done that! Poor lad it does look very sore

AutoIncorrect · 23/11/2020 20:11

Accidents happen, however I would call a parent to forewarn if the injury looked bad.
They can’t stop all accidents from happening but they should have the sense to call parents to explain and prepare them for injuries like this.

Sweettea1 · 23/11/2020 20:12

I would be furious an i know accidents happen an children can some time hurt each other but that is awful are you sure it was a toy looks like a burn looks like its blistering in last picture. I would be there first thing in the morning demanding an explanation an the toy responsible binned there an then.

WhySoSensitive · 23/11/2020 20:12

Poor boy!

myneighboursarerude · 23/11/2020 20:12

Christ that’s awful! Poor baby, I bet that hurt. They should absolutely have called you!

What toy is that?! It looks like a burn or a blister! What did they say?

SierraHotel · 23/11/2020 20:14

Wow, I work in a nursery and can't imagine what he could have been playing with that could have caused that injury. What was it?

Goodmum1234 · 23/11/2020 20:14

Op what did they say happened and what was on the accident form?

jessstan1 · 23/11/2020 20:15

Poor little lad, he's gorgeous too. This must not happen again, op. Speak to whomever you need to and have the toy removed.

sapnupuas · 23/11/2020 20:16

Off topic, but how cute is he?

lioncitygirl · 23/11/2020 20:16

what the hell did that!! i would be first at the nursery tomorrow asking to see the tapes of what happened. All nurseries to my knowledge have cameras in - ive viewed multiple ones with my son (he was always coming home with marks!)

SpillingTheTea · 23/11/2020 20:19

Omg that is so bad but agree I wouldn't have posted full face pics.

ozymandiusking · 23/11/2020 20:20

He is gorgeous. I hope it heals up quickly.

katnyps · 23/11/2020 20:20

I work in an industrial environment and this injury would be taken very seriously - there would definitely be some kind of investigation into what happened and how it could be prevented, particularly given how close it is to his eye (i.e. an eye injury doesn't seem implausible if this were to happen again so this would be considered a "near miss"). It would concern me if less rigour was taken in a nursery than in an adult workplace

Franklyfrost · 23/11/2020 20:24

My knife cut his finger, right through the nail, with a knife at nursery. They handed out the knives, left the children unsupervised and oops. They did call me but said, without introduction, ‘he’s bleeding, it was a knife...’. Also they didn’t call back with more information when they said they would. Phew, sorry, just needed to get that off my chest.

I would find out how your son’s injury happened and go from there. At least ask them to remove the toy. That said, I grumbled a bit about my son’s knife injury but did nothing about it because we live in a small village and it’s the village nursery Sad

5863921l · 23/11/2020 20:28

I would be appalled to collect my child at the end of the day and find this had happened. Not a phonecall, not even a dressing?!

What on earth was the toy.

SeenYourArse · 23/11/2020 20:30

Ah poor gorgeous little guy, this has really struck home as I’ve a very similar little fella who’s just started school! I’d be so upset at the thought of him crying for me but them not calling me! I wouldn’t contact OFSTED but I would definitely be speaking to them first thing in the morning about exactly what happened and what are they going to do to ensure that it will never happen again to him or any other child.

INeedNewShoes · 23/11/2020 20:30

I think I’d want to get that injury checked over. The third photo looks like its the sort of injury that might get infected, especially as the faces of small children often end up grubby.

HarrietPotterska · 23/11/2020 20:30

Jesus, an inch higher at it would have been his eye. That toy needs to go.

CommanderBurnham · 23/11/2020 20:31

They haven't learned from the first incident have they??

Please complain.

Also see if he can use kelocote at this age, really reduces scarring.

frumpety · 23/11/2020 20:32

DS did a similar injury with one of those friction cars , liked the feel of it , odd little soul , it pinched his skin and sort of peeled it off.

EvilPea · 23/11/2020 20:35

Ouch that looks sore, really sore. Poor thing. I also thought it looked more burn like. Does his story tally?
I’d be pretty pissed off too that you weren’t called.
