To be annoyed that the bathrooms are shut?

I’m six months pregnant and unable to hold it. Was out doing my shopping yesterday only to find the public bathrooms are shut due to Covid. Its happened before when I was picking up food from a restaurant. AIBU to think this is ridiculous? Most people can hold it but some can’t. Spare a thought for the elderly, disabled and pregnant folk. 😠

My local High Street had two supermarkets with toilets and they have both closed them since Covid, as well as their cafes. There are no other public toilets in the area.

BlackPetunia · 23/11/2020 21:11

they are probably closed because the staff have to share with the public

the public leave toilets trashed, so who would clean them?

Reedwarbler · 23/11/2020 22:28

Our local supermarket's loos are open and always have been. The staff have their own loos in their staff areas.

SnackSizeRaisin · 23/11/2020 22:33

I think it's a money saving thing. Covid is just an excuse. People need to start urinating and defaecating in the street, then they will remember why public toilets exist in the first place.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/11/2020 22:40

I haven't seen closed toilets anywhere in the US due to lockdown or covid risk

You're not likely to, MissConduct - at least in my experience of the US they're better than that

BubblyBarbara · 23/11/2020 22:40

I bought a camping wee bottle off Amazon and keep it in the back of my car in case I’m caught short I’ve used it a few times. I also have some waterproof bags and wipes in case I need to do the Other but haven’t needed to yet

Banoffeepies · 23/11/2020 22:41

Yanbu. The only public toilets in our town are closed. My mum has IBS and is double incontinent and she was nearly in tears when she had an episode and nowhere to go. It’s absolutely disgusting.

MiniMum97 · 23/11/2020 22:42

@Gancanny

YANBU.

I took DD to a hospital appointment and she needed the loo, I asked where they were and was told all outpatient toilets are closed due to covid risk. I explained she couldn't be expected to wait until we got home, she's just a kid, and was told that the supermarket across the road has toilets and we could go there. Absolute madness.

That's shocking. Especially since being a hospital they are likely to have plenty of visitors with incontinence issues. I'm surprised they haven't had accidents.

@Coldemort

If men had periods and babies you can guarantee they'd be open.....

I thought the current advice was to stay at home unless you are going to work, school or food and essentials shopping.
As bloody annoying as it is most people shouldn’t be out of the house for all that long.

couldn't you or someone else shop for her to avoid that situation though?
RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 23/11/2020 23:06

I was very surprised last week when i went to a fairly unpopular beach and the loos were ooen

Not only that but they were spotless

I work a lot and don’t drive, I struggle managing my own shopping home nevermind another households. She’s only 54, she’s not vulnerable or shielding and is perfectly capable of doing her own shopping. She shouldn’t be locked in the house to justify the council not being arsed to open the toilets. Especially as plenty of other places are managing with the toilets open.

You can exercise as long as you like, we were out all day on Sunday and DH is doing a 30 mile run later in the week.
