Always seems to be the loudest snorers fall asleep the quickest and sleep the deepest.

Separate bedrooms. And if he's still disturbing the sleep of people in other rooms, he needs to see a doctor.

And no alcohol, that generally makes snoring worse.

CPAP machines are magic. Not cheap but worth every penny.

KnitsAndGiggles · 23/11/2020 04:56

My life was transformed when my OH got a CPAP machine. He finds that he sleeps a lot better with it too. I still sometimes wear silicone earplugs but it's not like it was before he got the machine. The best earplugs I've found were in home bargains so nice and cheap

Sympathy here, OP. I got woken up at 2.30 by DH snoring and I've been kept awake since.

No spare room, can't sleep on sofa due to a spinal injury, can't use earplugs as he has been known to sleep through the fire alarm going off.

Its miserable. I'm always tired, falling asleep in the evenings. If I go to bed early, either he wakes me crashing round like an elephant when he comes to bed or this happens. If I try going to bed after him, I flat can't get to sleep.

I get that he can't 'help' snoring, but he also won't stick with any of the things that do reduce the frequency/volume at all, because they're 'uncomfortable' or 'he forgets'. He was also offered surgery for a deformed septum, which is part of the problem, early last year but then dithered so much over 'the risks' that they cancelled the referral, so that's out till God knows when.

Our DD complains she can hear him from her room, but he doesn't seem to grasp just how loud and disruptive he is. I'm at the point where I can't remember what it feels like not to be tired.

Decades ago I read a suggestion of stitching a cotton reel to the middle of the back of their pjs so that they will sleep on their sides.
I also read the book Breath by James Nestor, best seller about the importance of breathing correctly, it says mouth breathing is v BAD for you and, if I remember correctly, suggests a chin strap -

Get them the book.

I think it is natural to find it annoying but what are snorers to do??

Go to the doctor and get treated.
Obstructive sleep apnoea will shorten your life.
It can also lead to divorce.

@ginnybag, you need to record him.

mathanxiety · 23/11/2020 06:03

@Cheeeeislifenow, go to your doctor.

Cheeeeislifenow · 23/11/2020 07:14

I have been,. I have a deviated septum. I could do with my adenoids out, my health insurance won't cover it. I couldn't afford to pay for them to be removed.

CherryValanc · 23/11/2020 07:26

Wake him up. Every time.

Snorerers can't help snoring, but as they are asleep and not the ones deprived night after not a lot of them don't see it as an issue so do nothing to alleviate it. Or don't think it's an issue. Or worse, think it's something that can be joked about.

Meepmeeep · 23/11/2020 07:44

Only if he can punch you in the face when you snore.

Welcometonowhere · 23/11/2020 07:48

It’s awful for both parties and ear plugs are not the holy panacea they are claimed to be on here. Most just muffle sound and they aren’t the most comfortable thing to have in your ears either.

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 23/11/2020 08:14

Fuck that. He'd be on the sofa permanently. The only people allowed to disturb my sleep are my kids. Ok he apparently can't help it (a lot of people won't even investigate getting it sorted) but he can help where he sleeps and he can go sleep elsewhere.

nosswith · 23/11/2020 08:17

OP must have fallen back to sleep as no follow up. Sensible ideas though from others.

FanSpamTastic · 23/11/2020 12:56

You have my sympathy.

I can only sleep with the BOSE sleep buds in. here.

I had the first version but they had loads of technical issues and I had to take them back. New version is mk 2. Only had them about a month but seem to be ok so far.

I was using ear plugs temporarily - Bollsen.
