theconstantinoplegardener · 22/11/2020 22:50

Full is the only word that ends in _full. So beautiful, careful, joyful etc all end in ful

micaschist · 22/11/2020 22:52

Professor - you only need one effing (F in) Professor.

jambeforeclottedcream · 22/11/2020 22:52

The train stopped in the stationary

Envelope is Stationery

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 22/11/2020 22:54

@Watto1

Diarrhoea (sorry to lower the tone) - Dash In A Real Rush, Hurry Or Expect Accidents! I was taught that one as a student nurse by one of my lecturers who was sick of it being wrongly spelled in assignments Grin
I'm usually 'good at spelling' 😂 but that word is one I always struggle with. However, I have fog for brains these days & there's no way I'll remember all that 🤣

51 yo, Diabetic, insomniac - I don't recommend it!!

NeonIcedcoffee · 22/11/2020 22:55

Right cos if you used the wrong one no one would have a clue what on earth you were talking about!

Matilda taught me to spell!!!

Big Elephants Can Always Understand Small Elephants

C- Oh you little devil

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 22/11/2020 22:57

Oh back to the OP though.

A cAr
E Envelope

y9 Accounting teacher who threatened whole class detention over it on the first ever lesson 🤣

There was one more too but foggy brain can't think what it was now.

avenueq · 22/11/2020 22:59

@NeonIcedcoffee by that argument all spelling could be approximate as long as people know which word I mean?

OP posts:
Diversion · 22/11/2020 23:04

E for Envelope is how I was taught.

Nunoftheother · 22/11/2020 23:09

@BobbinThreadbare123

TBH I would be happy if people could remember that 'a lot' is two separate words...
And 'in case'.
Dilbertian · 22/11/2020 23:10

Do you like currAnt cAke?

Thank you! I have history with using currants in Christmas cake so I’ll definitely remember that one!
BritInAus · 22/11/2020 23:40

@CCC1

Loving these. I wish someone had come up with a catchy way of remembering complimentary/complementary as they both crop up in my life but not often enough to have it down! Any ideas?
I remember this one similar to stationAry = cAr and stationEry = pEn.

compliments (with an I) are nIce things that we say
complements (with an E) is when something completes a sEt

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 22/11/2020 23:43

YABU - definitely E for Envelopes

use of incorrect version of stationery/stationary really does wind me up though. I won't use the local sub post office because they have "stationary" plastered all over the windows advertising the range of things they sell.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 22/11/2020 23:49

it's not a spelling thing, just mis-keying, but I am forever typing form rather than from.
It's so exasperating - I always spell check formal documents for "form" just to make sure I've not used it inappropriately.

B r ought- B r ing
Bought- Buy

I bought a new car today. I brought the shopping in from my new car.

AmyandPhilipfan · 23/11/2020 00:01

My Year 6 teacher got sick of so many kids writing ‘freind’ so drew a picture on the board of a bum in a pan and said ‘remember to fry(fri) your end!’

Rhythm - Rhythm has your two hips moving

Could/would/should etc - O U Lucky Ducks!

I think it’s from a film but beautiful you sort of sing ‘B E A Utiful!’

I prefer the less subtle approach.

The cAr is stationAry, a pEn is stationEry
