Easiest way is to think of it as a trade or shop, as in, butcher's, baker's, stationer's etc (butchery, bakery, stationery)

Loose and lose are so frequently mixed up. Obviously the should of and could of too. Brought and bought. My DH didn't know the word pattern had an R in it! Non rhotic accents have a lot to answer for . Chester draws.
