Just use spell check.Wink

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 22/11/2020 20:35

@quizqueen

also
This one is a long standing favourite of mine. And thank you op for yours and the people who have said e is for envelope, most helpful.
RedDiamond · 22/11/2020 20:38

Who remembers this one? Difficulty
Mrs D
Mrs I
Mrs FFI
Mrs C
Mrs U
Mrs LTY

RedDeerRunning · 22/11/2020 20:40

Easiest way is to think of it as a trade or shop, as in, butcher's, baker's, stationer's etc (butchery, bakery, stationery)

pastaparadise · 22/11/2020 20:43

I never knew this! Or the practice/ practise one. Great!

Dilbertian · 22/11/2020 20:44

Please could someone find me a way of remembering how to spell independence/independent. When I don't have autocorrect I never know whether it's -ence/-ent or -ance/-ant.

For one Corset two Suspenders are necessary.
Where? There!
Because: Big Elephants Can Always Understand Small Elephants.

hennybeans · 22/11/2020 20:50

To whoM are you speaking?
I'm speaking to hiM.

Who is going to the shop?
He is going to the shop.

If you can answer your question with HIM, then use WHOM.

If you answer your question with HE, then use use WHO.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 22/11/2020 20:51

TBH I would be happy if people could remember that 'a lot' is two separate words...

yaychocolateginandwine · 22/11/2020 20:52

We were told at school to remember Roman numerals as Lovely Cadbury's Dairy Milk !
L = 50
C = 100
D = 500
M = 1000

BetteTwoShoes · 22/11/2020 20:56

Leave us alone = leave James and me alone
We are going to the shops = James and I are going the shops.

If the sentence makes sense without James, it’s right.

Leave me alone = leave James and me alone
I am going the shop = James and I are going to the shop.

Loving these. I wish someone had come up with a catchy way of remembering complimentary/complementary as they both crop up in my life but not often enough to have it down! Any ideas?

WattleOn · 22/11/2020 21:23

StationAry is where it is At.

(But that opens a grammatical can of worms so I like OP’s version better).

ShowOfHands · 22/11/2020 21:27

@Watto1

Diarrhoea (sorry to lower the tone) - Dash In A Real Rush, Hurry Or Expect Accidents! I was taught that one as a student nurse by one of my lecturers who was sick of it being wrongly spelled in assignments Grin
I prefer Doesn't It Always Run Really Horribly Over Each Ankle.

And the classic "there's no such word as fucking ect".

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 22/11/2020 21:32

Past and Passed. Used wrong on here all the time!

PuppyMonkey · 22/11/2020 21:34

(DP and) I live in a lovely house.

The house belongs to (DP and) me.

Misskittyfantastico85 · 22/11/2020 22:25

You can EAT outside if the wEATher is hot

(If not sure as whether or weather)

WattleOn · 22/11/2020 22:25

Does anyone have one for current and currant?

Just used it on another thread and struggled to choose the correct spelling. Thanks

Misskittyfantastico85 · 22/11/2020 22:27

Also I hate lose and loose.

Not so much here, but definitely on FB, 'I need to loose some weight' Hmm

Firstbornunicorn · 22/11/2020 22:30

I mean, the pen may also be stationary 🤷🏻‍♀️

Snackasaurus · 22/11/2020 22:34

Such a good thread! Grin

TotalBitch · 22/11/2020 22:37

Sorry if it's already been said, but I always remember it as Envelopes begin with E, so stationEry.

TotalBitch · 22/11/2020 22:39

Loose and lose are so frequently mixed up. Obviously the should of and could of too. Brought and bought. My DH didn't know the word pattern had an R in it! Non rhotic accents have a lot to answer for Wink. Chester draws.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 22/11/2020 22:45

Oh a lovely thread to warm the cockles of a pendant's heart on a cold winter's eve. Thank you, OP.

Bloodypunkrockers · 22/11/2020 22:46

Possess possesses two pairs of S's
