To not engage with this complete idiot?

NDN came round to get parcel and then said ‘just to let you know our dado rail in the kitchen is coming off it looks like something is pushing it from your side’ (we’re Victorian terrace and party wall is 55cm+ solid stone).

So I asked details of location and confirmed there’s nothing on the wall at all in that location let alone long enough to penetrate over half a meter.

Now NDN is threatening surveyors and their insurance company coming and assessing.

What do I do? I have so far just not engaged past this point but is that the wrong thing to do?

NDN can’t possibly know something is pushing through the wall it’s just speculation, to come around and wave around accusations without any actual evidence IMO is bonkers. But I don’t want to say or do anything that they can take and use if I take too much interest in helping resolve it.

Or am I overthinking it? And nothing will come of it.

@AnimalNitrate

Who the hell has a dado rail in 2020 anyway? The thing's probably trying to prize itself off in the hope it can jump into a time machine.
We do Sad; I hate it with a hate that is so great that it is indescribable! DH likes it otherwise I'd have ripped it off. I WANT a picture rail though...
Notnownotneverever · 27/02/2021 13:24

A dado rail is decoration. I can’t imagine an insurance company or surveyor being particularly interested in it.

If you go to your local planning office website you can look up planning. If the extension is on there, it went through planning permission rather than permitted development. Even if there are no plans etc, there will be a date for the works. I would print out or download and keep to hand.

I love nosing on neighbours planning applications. Its given me great ideas for our house Blush Grin

NDN sounds utterly batshit.

My NDN some years ago came over to tell me their carbon monoxide meter was going off and they believed it was carbon monoxide coming from my kitchen into theirs (the two kitchens are not attached at all). He felt it was happening anything time I cooked (not sure how he came to that conclusion) and I pointed out my oven is electric. He then told me carbon monoxide also comes from electricity and got the gas board involved, an engineer came over who was baffled and concluded my neighbour was insane.

@AtSwimTwoBerts

So definitely was just a loada drama for absolutely nothing. At least we know where we are now with any further accusations

The drama was all you though. All the poor man did was casually inform you that there MIGHT be a problem from your side. You were the one calling him all kinds of names and banging on about insurance and legal cover and fuck knows what with the other gobshites on here goading you on and also calling him names.

All for nothing .

😂 you didn’t read any of my posts especially not the op.

The NDN said there was something pushing through from my side, then mentioned insurance and surveyors to establish what exactly I was pushing through. Not me, I was sat quietly enjoying my cup of tea and then knock at the door.

Your NDN are right up there with a Mumsnetter who's own NDN harassed her for making water flow upwards to flood their patio.

Fucking weirdos.

AtSwimTwoBerts · 27/02/2021 14:01

I did your OP, perhaps you should read it back yourself? You said yourself he came for a parcel and it was a casual aside. You chose to use odd words like he was "threatening" you with surveyors and stuff, when really all he did was say something like a surveyor might need to look at it.

Gatekeeper · 27/02/2021 14:08

That patio flooding one turned out to be a troll

Really? I was thinking about that earlier. Weird thing to troll over.

PersimmonTree · 27/02/2021 14:15

Tell them your house is haunted and used to have dado rails that fell off mysteriously in the night. You then decorated in a way that pleased the spirit who then got bored and moved next door?

Lockdown turning everyone into weirdos with too much time on their hands, roll on May.

AtSwimTwoBerts seems a bit uptight. Has your NDN neighbour found this thread OP?!

As you weren't there, how do you know what he said or how he said it? There's nothing in OP's posts setting that out. Do you think it possible that the person who was actually there might know better than you when the neighbour was threatening or not?

Erm, what the hell? I’d love to read that thread 😂. Was it deleted because it’s was a troll or still floating around somewhere?

The conversation started with a parcel @AtSwimTwoBerts does that mean it must remain lighthearted?
