People moaning about lower bonuses this year

I think it makes them sound really spoiled. The couple of people moaning are already on huge salaries so I'm sure they'll cope with a less than great year!

OP posts:

Anyone who is disappointed about not getting a bonus, how about we give you a round of applause instead? After all it’s good enough for NHS staff.....

nancybotwinbloom · 19/11/2020 18:09

They deserve all the help they can get.

I'm so lucky my DD has not needed them for anything serious.

I don't know how they do it. They are a wonderful hospital and I think this year instead of doing stuff for the kids ( I will just buy a load of selection boxes from home and bargains instead) I will donate to the Ronald McDonald house instead for the parents as I am sure they need things too but maybe get overlooked.

I will email them now as I'm a bit behind in prepping and not everything has been delivered yet.

switswooo · 19/11/2020 18:12

The only person I would tell about a bonus is DH. Very crass to moan about it.

Although OP saying bonus isn't for bills is bizarre, some may people may use it to pay credit card bill etc.

MabelMoo23 · 19/11/2020 18:14

I didn’t get my bonus. I’m bitterly disappointed. I hit my targets, I brought revenue in that my employer benefited from so they’ve had the money already I achieved for them.

We were told no bonuses. I’m being made redundant now as are hundreds of other people. I understand it, doesn’t stop me being pissed off

nancybotwinbloom · 19/11/2020 18:18

Yeah an me we don't get bonus announced till April but I'm Not holding my breath.

I will be pissed off but I get it. If it's meant some of my colleagues have kept a job then it is what it is.

My bonus usually pays for our holiday but it's only one year.

Swings and roundabouts I suppose

nancybotwinbloom · 19/11/2020 18:18

I am sorry you are being made redundant on top of that.

Lepetitpiggy · 19/11/2020 18:23

We get a £25 Love to shop voucher each year (charity) and I get over excited about that, so hope we dont have that taken away...

BunnyMacDougal · 19/11/2020 18:24

Where I work, we’re very well paid, no job cuts, nobody was furloughed, salary increase this year as normal, bonuses will be paid. We’re really lucky.

But there’s no Christmas party so now union reps are trying to try members together to demand Christmas hampers Hmm

It’s so fucking frustrating.

letsnotscaretheneighbours · 19/11/2020 18:28

I am still receiving a bonus every month atm but it us much smaller. I'm not moaning about it because normally it is 'extra' and base salary is for budget purposes but my husband has just been made redundant and now I may need it. So I'm feeling the pressure of potentially it dwindling to nothing now.

Helloyouthere · 19/11/2020 18:32

People are moaning a bit in my job. I think we should be greatfull just to still be in a job to be honest Smile

nancybotwinbloom · 19/11/2020 18:35

And this is the thing.

As far as I know there are two types of bonus.

Profit share where everyone gets one

And

Commission based

If it is commission based I wouldn't expect it to be altered.

Profit based, well current climate it probably will be.

I'm moving to the latter in January.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 19/11/2020 18:36

I think if people have worked hard all the way through (not been on furlough) then they can moan about the lack of bonus. Yes many of us don’t get them in our jobs but I don’t begrudge people who do.

eaglejulesk · 19/11/2020 18:37

Maybe people rely on their bonus to pay bills?

Then they shouldn't, a bonus is never guaranteed. Some people no longer have jobs, I'm afraid I haven't any empathy left for those who are getting a salary but no bonus! Also many don't ever get a bonus and just about scrape by on minimum wage - lovely for them to hear people moaning about something they will never get.

GhostCurry · 19/11/2020 18:37

“I get your point however if I were playing Devils Advocate, I would highlight that people tend to live within their means. If they are used to receiving a set amount each year from salary and bonuses, they may find themselves in a shaky position when the additional funds they had been banking on haven't appeared.

Not everyone has been badly hit by CoVid. Some people have done very well out of the pandemic. Some companies have never been busier. Some staff have been stretched so thin its been unbearable, only to find that their company is still cutting bonuses and salaries "because of Co-Vid19" aka just using it as an excuse to swindle hard working people from money they deserve.”

I completely disagree with your first statement (nobody should rely on their bonus for anything other than a nice treat, whatever the size is) but completely agree with your second.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 19/11/2020 18:38

Years ago I remember colleagues in the city including their bonus in their mortgage calculations.

ivfbeenbusy · 19/11/2020 18:43

It's not so much the lack of bonus its the fact that the company put us on reduced salaries for 4 months (by 20%) but actually our profit forecast is actually the same if not better than it was before covid. So it feels like businesses are using covid as an excuse to pay out bonuses when actually they are in the same or better financial position?

Candyflosscrochet · 19/11/2020 18:44

A bonus??!!
Ah the luxury.....
I'm nhs, was redeployed to the front line and now back picking up the pieces of our service that was suspended and the waiting lists of people desperate for our help.....
We got a clap for our hard work....

MummaBear4321 · 19/11/2020 18:47

People actually get Christmas bonuses? Neither me or DH have ever got a Christmas bonus, and we are in 'career' jobs. What sort of jobs get bonuses these days?

TulisaIsBrill · 19/11/2020 18:52

@FatBottomedGurl

I get your point however if I were playing Devils Advocate, I would highlight that people tend to live within their means. If they are used to receiving a set amount each year from salary and bonuses, they may find themselves in a shaky position when the additional funds they had been banking on haven't appeared.

Not everyone has been badly hit by CoVid. Some people have done very well out of the pandemic. Some companies have never been busier. Some staff have been stretched so thin its been unbearable, only to find that their company is still cutting bonuses and salaries "because of Co-Vid19" aka just using it as an excuse to swindle hard working people from money they deserve. In those situations, I would certainly be complaining and I wouldn't be spoiled to do so.

You have painted a very basic, generalised picture when in reality, peoples' lives and finances are rarely that way.

These sort of people suffer from lifestyle inflation, and I have no sympathy for them.

I have a very decent income, but I’ve made damn sure that means I don’t live paycheck to paycheck because I’ve let my expenses creep.

nancybotwinbloom · 19/11/2020 18:53

I get an annual profit share. Usually ten percent.

It's discretionary.

I work as a manager for accounts in the utilities industry

nancybotwinbloom · 19/11/2020 18:54

If I get one it pays for our annual holiday if I don't get one we don't go away.

Pumpertrumper · 19/11/2020 18:57

I got my annual £1.5k bonus in April and it was unaffected by covid at that point.

I didn’t expect it given we’d gone into mental lockdown but I was newly on mat leave and it’s at extra months wage to me (less so after tax but due to mat leave I get most of my tax this year back anyway) so it was lovely and very very appreciated!

Also people on MN are so judgmental of high earners but honestly just consider that they are dependant on that income just like everyone else.

People earning minimum wage set their outgoings accordingly. I earn £25k and set my outgoings accordingly. Another earns £50k and sets their outgoings. Another earns £100k...etc

They all have rents/mortgages, they all have direct debits trying to go out of their accounts. High earners are no doubt being chased for school fees...etc and facing possibly having to pull kids out post covid.

It’s ok saying ‘well they were on crazy high wages they should cope with less easily!’ But I think any family suffering a sudden and unexpected drop in income is going to really feel it and should be extended some sympathy.

EasterIssland · 19/11/2020 19:04

I think yabu.
Just because some people get a bonus and are well paid doesn’t mean they don’t deserve it because the neighbour next door have had a tough year.

When I started working I was on 24k and I was getting a bonus. I’d not say it’s a luxurious salary.

10 years later I don’t have bonuses , but my year has been quite tough workwise working more hours than ever. My company is doing really well (IT) and earning more money than what they thought would. So if I had a bonus in my contract tbh I’d expect it and I don’t think it makes me selfish to expect it just because others have lost their jobs.

MrsWhites · 19/11/2020 19:05

To be honest I don’t understand the hate towards those who earn bonuses on here. Yes people in the NHS don’t get bonuses but that doesn’t mean that other people in different professions shouldn’t get them.

Nor should anybody be told to give their bonus to charity. Most bonuses received this year will likely be reduced compared to previous years, these people have suffered a fall in income in the same way as those who are furloughed have too. It’s shit for anyway to lose income they have become used to receiving, it’s ok to say people shouldn’t get used to receiving a bonus but you could say that about people on zero hours contracts or regular overtime too!

And before anyone asks, no I don’t receive a bonus!

ineedsun · 19/11/2020 19:16

People get 15k as a bonus!?

Fucking hell, I can't imagine ever having that much money
