If no, what age to you consider old.

MrsMoastyToasty · 18/11/2020 18:01

My uncle is 96. He doesn't think he's old.

IndieTara · 18/11/2020 18:03

I'm 54 and def don't see myself as old. I often feel old though but that's to do with chronic health conditions,
My parents are mid and late 70's and I don't see them as old either. I have a grandparent who is older than 100 though so maybe that's why

Ragwort · 18/11/2020 18:05

littlemiss totally agree, my DPs are the same - they were kindly invited to an 'old folks lunch' (before COVID), my DM told me that she wouldn't mind doing the cooking but she wasn't going to sit down and be waited on Grin. We also had a chat recently about what she would do if my DF dies first, she plans to up her her yoga class to three sessions a week, join the bridge club and volunteer to help 'old people' - she is 87 !

IceFrost · 18/11/2020 18:12

I’d say 40s is Middle Aged
50s is getting on
& 60s is old.

IceFrost · 18/11/2020 18:14

I think my outlooks come from my grandparents though. I feel they acted very ‘old’ far before they probably should of.
One has already passed away at 75 and the other who is 78 is in need of a lot of extra care and acts very elderly.

RuthW · 18/11/2020 18:19

I'm 52 and hardly middle aged yet. 85 is old.

MadameBlobby · 18/11/2020 18:22

@VettiyaIruken

I do. I'm nearly 47 and I am old.

But that's not a bad thing!

In this youth worshipping culture 'old' is a dirty word and that's absolutely ridiculous! There's nothing wrong with being old. You've got years of skills, life experience, wisdom (hopefully 😁) and so on. I feel a million times more confident than I ever did in my youth. Old doesn't mean dull or humourless. I would love to see people embrace 'old' and be positive about it rather than get uptight about it!

Elderly is an appropriate description for when you're frail and again, not an insult, just a fact.

I’m 47, it’s not young but it’s certainly not “old”! Middle aged. I don’t think it’s ever been classed as “old”? Well maybe centuries ago but not now!
OkyDoke · 18/11/2020 18:23

Am probably biased as I work in nursing homes but anyone under 85 I think is young!

tinkywinkyshandbag · 18/11/2020 19:04

No, I'm 53 and not old, DH is 59 and that does feel as if he is edging towards old, although no way does he look it. I think "old" is a relative concept just like "rich", it all
depends who you're comparing yourself to. When I was in my 20s someone in their 50s would definitely have been classed as old in my book.

gingercat02 · 18/11/2020 19:06

No, not only because I am 51 but because I won't get my pension until I'm 67. I'll be bloody old and knackered by then!

Liftup · 18/11/2020 19:10

not old !
JLo is 51 so im going to use her as my guide for this..Grin

feellikeanalien · 18/11/2020 19:16

I think I started to think of my parents as old when they reached their 80s. Having said that Dad only retired at 80 and Mum was active until she died at 87. Physically they were definitely slowing down by then.

I think of people in their 50s as being middle aged but as others have said it's all in your attitude. I am over 50 but mentally I feel about early 40sGrin

PeggyArmstrong · 18/11/2020 19:51

When my friends and I were in our twenties we regularly had our arses handed to us on a plate by my parents and their friends when we played Badminton... we had a court booked every week so got whupped every week and they whupped us good too!

When you regularly get bested by people that are more than twice your age you stop making any presumptions and just enjoy people for who they are. Age matters not a jot.

Isitsixoclockalready · 18/11/2020 19:56

It probably would have been considered old when the average life expectancy was 3 score years and 10 but not anymore.

lljkk · 21/11/2020 21:32

I'm over 50. I am obviously 'old'.
Nothing wrong with 'old'.
Old does not mean 'past it' or 'worn out.'

IHeartHounds · 21/11/2020 21:38

It's definitely more than middle aged as most people will not live 100 years or even 90 or even 85. In my mind it is old but not elderly which is 70+. I am not far off 50 myself and don't feel remotely old. However, I am much more than halfway through my life.

AlexisRoselovesTedtheVet · 21/11/2020 21:43

@vodkaredbullgirl

Not this again.
It's a bore isn't it?
grassisjeweled · 21/11/2020 21:44

The tides have changed.

Old is now over 70.

MrsDThomas · 21/11/2020 21:49

Heck no!

You can make yourself old. Live life to the full! Im 46 and loving life. Im healthy, run a lot, walk.

My friend is 50 and you'd never believe it if you saw her, shes super fit, gorgeous and Is very active.

When i was younger i though 50 was old hut that wax down to how the person was. Wearing slippers, overalls, aprons, grey hair. They looked old. Back then many women didn’t take care of how they looked. Now we do

rhowton · 21/11/2020 21:51

If someone said "I'm 50 and pregnant" you'd say that's old to have children. If someone said "I'm 50 and retiring you'd say wow, you're young to retire.

Charleyhorses · 21/11/2020 21:52

80 Seems to be the point of marked decline.
I'm 52 with 15 years til state pension.im saving enough to have 10 good years of retirement. Then that will be that.

pilates · 21/11/2020 21:56

When I was young, 50+ was old. Now I’m that age, no.

tobee · 21/11/2020 21:56

It's not even middle aged

Josette77 · 21/11/2020 22:05

lol How is it not middle-aged??

Joswis · 21/11/2020 22:07

I'm 55 and I feel old.
