To think this meme is pretty unpleasant?

I have a "friend" on Facebook who as well as believing in all the other conspiracy theories also believes COVID is a mass plot to control us etc. (This isn't really around COVID hence not putting it on that board). She's uploaded the attached pic tonight which I think is pretty offensive - I appreciate other people have different views to me, but this seems to imply that because I'd wear a mask this is comparable to Nazi supporters. AIBU to think she's gone a bit far with this one?

@Brefugee that is a BRILLIANT idea. I’m going to always do that!

DameFanny · 18/11/2020 08:52

The difference between following medical advice and wearing a green hat. Or could you not see the difference?

flaviaritt · 18/11/2020 08:55

Or could you not see the difference?

Oh I see it. I ignored it because it isn’t relevant. Tyrants always think there is very good reason for conformity. Hats or masks, it makes no difference.

littleburn · 18/11/2020 08:59

Yep! Wildly offensive and inappropriate and hugely egotistical.

DameFanny · 18/11/2020 08:59

You're calling the WHO a tyrant? Saying there's no difference between a mask and a hat IN A PANDEMIC?

flaviaritt · 18/11/2020 09:01

You're calling the WHO a tyrant? Saying there's no difference between a mask and a hat IN A PANDEMIC?

“IN A PANDEMIC” 😂 Calm down.

I am not calling anyone a tyrant as such. I am pointing out that non-conformity of thought (not thinking masks are effective, thinking individual freedom is just as important as other imperatives) is a perfectly legitimate thing. And tyrants always think otherwise, irrespective of the issue. They can’t cope with someone else’s freedom of thought.

DameFanny · 18/11/2020 09:05

So in a parallel example, do you think it's imposed conformity that you have to wear at least pants in public? Please exercise your own freedom of thought and actually think this through Hmm

flaviaritt · 18/11/2020 09:06

So in a parallel example, do you think it's imposed conformity that you have to wear at least pants in public?

Obviously it is imposed conformity.

DameFanny · 18/11/2020 09:07

And you think it's also a sign of autocracy?

flaviaritt · 18/11/2020 09:08

Not necessarily, no.

DameFanny · 18/11/2020 09:09

Well then, what's your actual point?

flaviaritt · 18/11/2020 09:10

I made my point. Tyrants always think their “good reason” is good enough for everyone. They don’t understand and can’t cope with diversity of opinion.

DameFanny · 18/11/2020 09:15

You think that a medical consensus on the benefits of reducing infection spread is equivalent to tyranny? That's quite the point to make. I think we're back to the slow handclap.

flaviaritt · 18/11/2020 09:18

You think that a medical consensus on the benefits of reducing infection spread is equivalent to tyranny?

No. I think the failure to recognise that there are valid views outside the consensus shows a tendency towards tyrannical thinking.

mumofmany81 · 18/11/2020 09:19

I took the post to say mask nazis as in those who go round telling off others who don't wear masks. I've seen tons of "mask nazis" on our local Facebook page moaning every single day about where they have seen people not wearing masks. I absolutely wouldn't look at it and think it was comparing mask wearing to nazis. Whether it's good taste or not is another matter

DameFanny · 18/11/2020 09:29

It's a failure in your critical thinking then, akin to the fuckwit who thought my adopting a mask before it was required and contradicting his (the fuckwit's) idiocy meant I was a Boris Johnson fan. You can connect anything to anything to 'prove your point' but it doesn't withstand a minute's actual thought.

I don’t really understand what you mean here.

DameFanny · 18/11/2020 09:48

I'm saying you're extrapolating badly. Thinking that wanting consensus on a health matter in a health emergency is refusing to see validity outside the consensus. I've seen and considered the arguments against this particular consensus and they're bollocks. This is not me being a tyrant - I have no power, no influence - I'm just done with stupidity and bad faith. As I said before.

EmeraldShamrock · 18/11/2020 09:52

Great example. I wonder how far I'd get walking pant-less through the streets. 😂

flaviaritt · 18/11/2020 09:52

Thinking that wanting consensus on a health matter in a health emergency is refusing to see validity outside the consensus.

I said nothing about people who want consensus.

I've seen and considered the arguments against this particular consensus and they're bollocks.

That settles it, then. Hmm

This is not me being a tyrant - I have no power, no influence - I'm just done with stupidity and bad faith

If you are psychologically unable to accept diversity of opinion as valid because you’ve thought it all through and decided you’re infallible, I would argue you have the classic tyrannical mindset. Happily as you say, you don’t have the influence to make everything exactly as you would like it.

flaviaritt · 18/11/2020 09:53

It was a great example. Of course forcing people to wear clothes is enforced conformity. My point is more that I think it is perfectly valid to think clothes are pointless unless it’s cold.

Fluffybutter · 18/11/2020 09:55

“Gone a bit far”?! I’d say she’s lapped the fucking earth !
Very offensive, not only to those who wear masks like sensible people but to Jewish people .
She’s an idiot.
Remove her from your friends list .

Your failure of comprehension is not my failure of meaning

I am not sure what you believe I have failed to comprehend.

BillywigSting · 18/11/2020 10:18

Agree with pp, it is both profoundly stupid and profoundly offensive for all of the reasons mentioned above.
