To ask for ideas for websites that do good, cheap and not naff stocking-fillers?

For 9 year-old DD. She's into most things in moderation: not super girly but not a tomboy. Into baking, music, reading, lots of youtubers (have made clear I'm not going there for Xmas presents) animals.

Trying to avoid buying everything from Amazon but I have to be realistic: I won't be traipsing around lovely craft fairs this year.

Sites like Etsy and Notonthehighstreet are for the most part over-priced and naff so will avoid if possible.

Big presents should be fairly straightforward but looking for some good ideas for original, nice little bits to go in stockings.

Any thoughts?

fluffy stuff for her bedroom? Dunelm have a lovely range called Teddy or something like that with lovely blankets and cushions etc... also fairy lights/bunting/wall art etc to make her room cosy for the upcoming pre-teen years?

stick on felt board for walls to use as notice board for photos and notes etc

also, journals/sketchbooks, decent pencils/felt tips with special features

tie dye kit with white t-shirts, pillow cases

Wimpy kid/dork diaries books

hair colour chalks/brushes

Try Baker Ross, they have alot of crafty stuff and aren't too expensive either.

Bookmarked this thread as I need some inspiration for an advent and Xmas Eve box

Notcontent · 17/11/2020 13:40

How about just a few small things that she will use, rather than just things that will probably end up in landfill a few months after Christmas - e.g. some fluffy socks, some small art supplies (if she is into art!), some interesting sweets that you would not normally buy, some bubble bath.

ladybee28 · 17/11/2020 13:44

You might find some good ideas on the Christmas boards, particularly this thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/Christmas/4034228-Independent-online-shops

I was just coming on to say Rex of London. I got quite a few things from there as stocking fillers.
Dizzybintess · 17/11/2020 13:55

Does she like Moriah Elizabeth who is a youtuber?
she has some good "Merch" as my 9 year old put it!
We have ordered her a Pickle the dinosaur hoodie and pencil case! she is literally going to lose her crap when she opens it!

Dizzybintess · 17/11/2020 13:58

That Rex site is fab! thanks for suggestion both x

LuckyAmy1986 · 17/11/2020 14:10

Yes I like Rex too, I ordered some bits for a tea party for DD and they were all lovely

PhantomErik · 17/11/2020 14:19

Are there any animal rescue centres in your area? You can often buy small bits from their gift shops that would nake nice stocking fillers, pens, keyrings, badges, soft toys etc.

Things that could be bought from independant sellers on ebay:

Chopsticks (wrapped up with instant noodles)
Fountain pen
Money box
Fidget cube/spinner
Lego polybags/blindbags
Art supplies

thepeopleversuswork · 17/11/2020 16:04

Thanks all, some good ideas here.

Dizzybintess Yes! she loves Moriah Elizabeth and she's just about the only youtuber she likes who I approve of. Good shout.

Mrscaptainraymondholt good ideas and she loves both Dork Diaries and Wimpy Kid.

Thank you!

Thanks for the Rex suggestion, I also like the noodle/chopstick idea.

Oh so glad I read this - some great suggestions!!! Thank you 🙏

Hawkins Bazaar isn't bad. Hobbycraft and The Works both sell online too.

Not independent sellers unfortunately, but at least you can buy several things from one place and not pay multiple delivery charges.

Flibbertigibbet2211 · 30/11/2020 11:56

Thanks for the suggestion of Rex. I hadn't known it existed and it looks great, for children and adults.
